Three reasons why the Michael Vick case is Important

Fri Aug 24, 2007 at 10:39:06 PM PDT

Meet Molly. I found this little girl over two weeks ago while driving. Since then I have tried to get her to bring her home. She evaded me until I finally caught her on Monday.  As you can see she is extremely malnourished. What you cannot see is the cut on her neck from some kind of wire collar, her missing and broken teeth from likely being kicked, and the sores on her body from having nothing between her skin and bones. The other thing you can't see is her sweet disposition. She will turn away from food in her state in order to be pet. I can't decide which is more sad, her starving for food or starving for affection. In the last two days she has eaten well and had shelter and her spirits are picking up. Molly, my boys, and Michael Vick have inspired me to do more.

On Hypocrisy

Sun Jul 22, 2007 at 01:34:05 AM PDT

A lot of people have written a lot of words with regards to Senator David Vitter and his adultery. Some stories focus on the lascivious nature of the offense; others are waiting breathlessly for the second shoe to drop; and a few want no part of the discussion, leaving it a private matter for the senator and his family. A great deal of the postings I have read are consumed by the empty joy of schadenfreude. What I haven't read, and what I believe the point people are missing, is that the senator is/was correct. That adultery is a very serious problem and it certainly does have it's consequences. Take a look at the Senator's life at the moment. His rising star has plummeted, his future in doubt.

It's over, but there is a lesson learned.

It's over. We have been evicted. At 12:01 midnight we will be out of our home. Alot of backstory here, many little things contributing to the situation, but it is what it is. I know it could be worse, and alot of people have it worse than my wife and I, but it still hurts. We are off tommorow with what ever we can fit in our vehicle. We'll be staying in a frineds camper for the time being. I feel like a failure. It's not that I didn't try to find work, I just couldn't at least not here. So tonight in a few hours, we'll be heading to Oklahoma with our dog and some clothes. Here's how it happened.

Israel Resumes Air Attacks

Sun Jul 30, 2006 at 11:21:50 PM PDT

This was taken form fox news, I heard it while listening to the radio it's the only source I have found so far.

Israeli jets bomb suspected guerrilla targets in Lebanon near Syrian border; Previously announced temporary halt of aerial activity in southern Lebanon as outrage over bombing that killed 56 in Qana grows; U.N. statement expresses 'extreme shock and distress' over Qana strikes

On The Turning Away

Wed Jul 26, 2006 at 12:22:01 AM PDT

I was sitting here reading over DKos and listening to Coast to Coast AM for some entertainment. The last caller I heard had an experience with Bigfoot. Now usually that would be high comedy for me, but for some reason it wasn't enough tonight, so I flipped the radio off and began looking for something to amuse me at youtube. After a few random clicks and links I ended up somehow with Learning to Fly by Pink Floyd as an option. I haven't listened to them much in recent years, my wife isn't a fan. SO i clicked on the link and was whisked away on the wings of a nostalgic trip, back to college and sitting around getting high with friends. I was staring off into space remebering the people, places and things that I had long since forgetten. At the end of the song I needed more, so I did a further search and the first song was On the Turning Away.

Pennacchio Pisses on Casey: Poll

Fri May 19, 2006 at 12:16:11 AM PDT

After the Pennsylvania primary I was hopeful that we would all come together to work towards the defeat of Santorum. Alan Sandals took the high road and has this on his site:

MAY 16, 2006
I spoke a few minutes ago with Bob Casey. I wished him the courage and strength to be a true Democrat and to defeat Rick Santorum.
I wish him the courage to speak out loudly and often
- against an open-ended, tragic and costly military occupation of Iraq
- against the scourge of illegal handguns that is plaguing our cities and killing our children and teenagers.
- against the gun lobby, against foes who refuse to admit that there is a difference between a deer in the forest and a nine-year old child waiting in a schoolyard.

Sandals takes the opportunity to assert his stand on gun control without turning his comment into an attack. Pennacchio chose to take the low road.

Touchscreen Voting Machines in PA decertified

Thu Apr 07, 2005 at 05:50:12 PM PDT

The following quotes were taken from Unilect Corporation's website.

"The May Primary was our first Election with the Patriot Voting System throughout the County, and yes I was a little worried about our Voters and Poll Workers having problems on Election Day. Only a few minor problems were reported and were handled very quickly, mostly by phone. We replaced our "Lever Voting Machines" with the Patriot System with very few problems throughout the County."

"As you know we had some very last minute ballot changes come in from the State and were able to reload our ballots for all 100 precincts within an hour. I hate to think of having all the printing redone and the "Lever Machines" changed at the last minute, it would have been nearly impossible and very costly. Thanks to Patriot it was a piece of cake. Election night results and reports were available to the Media and to us at least 2 hours earlier than ever before. The response from our "Senior" Voters was very favorable, they "liked it"."

Inclusion and the Democratic Party

Sat Mar 05, 2005 at 05:09:05 PM PDT

This inclusion issue is a hot button issue for me personaly. I eneded 12 year hiatus from the Democratic Party just yesterday. I have spent some time today defending Bob Casey, and his candidacy,  in several diaries. Let me claerly stating I have no quarrel with pro-choice Democrats voicing their concerns over a run for office by a pro-life Democrat. To add to that, I do not oppose the candidacy of Chuck Pennancchio to run in a contested primary against Casey. However, I do think it is important to represnt each of the candidates accurately and truthfuly. I am dissapointed in the response of many Democrats as labeling Casey as not a real Democrat, or as Republican-lite. In support of my position I look to  Chairman Dean.

Today I became a Democrat(again)

Fri Mar 04, 2005 at 09:43:39 AM PDT

I am a resident of Pensylvania and I have mailed my voter registraion information requesting a change of party affiliation. I cannot really express my joy at this moment. For so long I believed that for all the talk of a big tent for Democrats, it was mostly lip service.  Years of cynicism have seemingly melted away in one simple statement: Pennsylvania State Treasurer Bob Casey said today that he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2006 against incumbent Republican Senator Rick Santorum.
