Civil unions are not equal to marriage -- proven again
Mon Jul 09, 2007 at 02:51:57 PM PDT
When the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples had to be given all the rights of marriage, they left the door open for the legislature to create some parallel structure that they could claim was equal to marriage.
Well, separate but equal has never been equal, and it still isn't and from of all things, UPS in New Jersey is showing us just how true that is.

2006 Elections: Howard Dean was right ---- from homophobia to xenophobia.....
Sat Jul 23, 2005 at 08:40:34 PM PDT
In a
speech to the National Council of La Raza National Conference, Howard Dean warned us of what is coming in 2006:
The Republican leadership targets minorities to advance their own party agenda, but in elections they look for ways to divide us. It was African-Americans in 2002, gays in 2004, and it's going be immigrants in 2006, you wait and see.
Here is my beloved reasonably blue state of Washington, what may be the first shot has been fired in the form of a voter initative filed for the 2006 election -- and the issue may rear its ugly head into the 2006 Senate race. More below.....

Kossians need to come to God NOW!!!
Sat Nov 20, 2004 at 01:19:57 PM PDT
Yeah you read that right, everyone on this blog needs to
COME TO GOD NOW.
With all the talk about "moral values" in the past election and how it cost us, it's is clear that this is the only answer.
Republican Moral Values fight Immoral Interstates
Fri Nov 19, 2004 at 10:18:29 AM PDT
My apologies if someone already posted this, I did a search and it turned up empty.
US Rep John Hostettler, R-IN 8th, has decided that Interstate 69 should be changed to a "more moral sounding number." Apparently, "religious conservatives believe I-69 sounds too risqué and want to change the interstate's number."
Here is the link to the article in the Hoosier Gazette, so you, too, can see what we've got coming for the next 4 years. If you've got a highway 169 or 269 near you, watch out!
Of course, I am now left to wonder if perhaps Interstate 69 is gay and that's the real reason behind this. ;-)
Cheney FLIP-FLOP on Iraq
Wed Sep 29, 2004 at 08:41:32 AM PDT
From the files of why I love the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Joel Connelly....
In this morning's P-I is an article that starts with the headline:
Bush-Cheney flip-flops cost America in blood
It would seem that the current occupant of the vice presidency gave a little speech in Seattle in 1992 which warned us about what would have happened if we had gone on to Baghdad in the Gulf War. You know, just little things like how we'd end up running the country and Saddam not being worth all those American casualties. Hmmmm.

Federal Court affirms "Back Door Draft"
Mon Sep 13, 2004 at 04:33:21 PM PDT
A former serviceman & reservist in North Carolina is being forced back into active duty.
The article incorrectly states he is a reservist. His Individual Ready Reserve time ended in December 2003.

CNN refuses LCR ad condemning GOP for FMA
Tue Aug 31, 2004 at 01:12:51 PM PDT
You may know that the Log Cabin Republicans have produced a TV ad critical of the GOP for the FMA and anti-gay planks in their platform. (no comment on what I think of the LCR in general)
Well, CNN will not show it because it's "too controversial." Hmmm. How nice.
Here is a link to the story.
Apologies if someone else posted this at the same time I did.
Gay marriage victory in Washington state
Wed Aug 04, 2004 at 10:52:55 AM PDT
(
From the diaries -- kos)
This morning, a King County Superior Court judge ruled Washington's ban on same sex marriage in violation of the state constitution.
"The Court concludes that the exclusion of same-sex partners from civil marriage and the privileges attendant thereto is not rationally related to any legitimate or compelling state interest and is certainly not narrowly tailored toward such an interest."
This will end up in the state Supreme Court, but still is wonderful news!
Wyoming.....can we win the House seat?
Tue Jul 27, 2004 at 06:30:01 PM PDT
An
article in the Casper Star-Tribune indicates that the DNC is taking a closer look at the race for the state's lone seat in the US House.
Rep. Barbara Cubin has opposition in the Republican primary, and there are 3 Democrats running as well.
I've seen some posts from Wyoming on here from time to time -- can any folks from the Equality State give us a closer look? I know that Wyoming has elected Democratic governors with some frequency, including the current Governor, Dave Freudenthal. What are our chances?
Back Door Draft
Fri Jul 02, 2004 at 11:12:25 PM PDT
It appears that the heads that be are testing a new way to find folks to send to Iraq --- attempting to call up former servicepeople whose Individual Ready Reserve time had long ago expired.
The Fayetteville (NC) Observer provides the details.
