UPDATE: LOOK OUT! The story is not Goss

Fri May 05, 2006 at 11:28:45 AM PDT

I have nothing but my gut to go on here, but I think this is a giant puppet show. Something else is happening in the other hand and we have to look for it. If you agree or are at least intrigued, treat this as a non-Porter Goss, looking for the man behind the curtain thread.

Any ideas what they may be trying to hide? Rove? Cheney? The prez itself? Dusty Foggo?

Oh shit. Worst case scenario: Big casualty report coming out. Three U.S. soldiers have already been reported killed today already: http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

Fucking hell I hope not. I know I'm stretching here, and some could call it irresponsible. I do not claim to know anything and am prepared to swallow this diary whole. But this administration never. plays. straight. There is something being hidden here, I know it. If Goss was implicated in the Hookergate thing, the Prez wouldn't have stood next to him today. That's not how they would have played it. They would have had someone else ready and put all the focus on the new person, leaving Goss invisible and gone.

Anyone? Update [2006-5-5 16:11:59 by Earl]:: More below, with commenters thoughts.

Banned Band Speaks, Cleveland Plain Dealer runs story

Sat Apr 29, 2006 at 08:31:21 AM PDT

I just got an email from Jacab Feder of the Cleveland Afropop band Mifune, who we learned in Timroff's diary were stopped mid-song yesterday because they wouldn't remove their anti-Bush T-shirts. The story made it to the Plain Dealer today. (And that may be partly because or you diary, Timroff, who knows?)

Tower City shuts off band for political T-shirts

Saturday, April 29, 2006
Michael Sangiacomo

A band wearing anti-President Bush T-shirts was silenced in mid-performance at Tower City Friday because the mall's management felt the band's attire was inappropriate.

Mifuné, an Afro-beat band, was performing as part of the Tri-C JazzFest when the sound was cut off about 20 minutes into the set on orders from Tower City management.

More (and an email for the Kosers from the band) below.

Neil Young Album Out...Listen To It NOW

Fri Apr 28, 2006 at 09:19:35 AM PDT

The motherfucker's RAPPING on the one I'm listening to now. Unfuckingbelievable. This is a GOOD. FUCKING. RECORD. 100 people he got to sing behind his feedingback loud balls to the walls guitar, sweet melodies. And FUCKING MEANING IT.

Now, some old fucking lyrics. Neil Young: Fucking Up'

Mindless drifter on the road
Carry such an easy load
It's how you look, and how you feel
You must have a heart of steel.

Why do I keep fuckin' up?

I can see you on a hill
Comatose but walking still
Curves beneath your flowing gown
Only I could bring you down.

Why do I keep fuckin' up?

Dogs that lick and dogs that bite
Hounds that howl through the night
Broken leashes are all over the floor
Keys left hanging in a swinging door.

Why do I keep fuckin' up?

Keep fuckin' up!

Imp: Peach, Mint

Imp: Peach, Mint

I've got a word stuck in my head today. Or is it two words? Or is it three words? I've got either one, two, or three words stuck in my head today.

You have them stuck there too. Look.

The whole fucking country has those words floating around their heads like rose petals in a North Wind. Is it two words: Peach. Mint?

Their Fingers on the Cliff's Edge, Hammers in Our Hands

Fri Apr 07, 2006 at 11:21:36 AM PDT

So the plan that Rove and Cheney came up with to counter Plamegate is to place the blame for the leaks directly on the president?

Wow.

Bush and Cheney and Rove and Libby and whoever else may have leaked or authorized the leak of classified information to the press are off the hook...because the president authorized it--meaning, it wasn't classified because of that authorization.

Wow. They are So. Fucking. Stupid.

Brit Hume and John Hinderaker and Cliff May and Brian York and all the other wannabe deputized posse members of Sheriff George Bush in the Adventures of President Man! have been sent the first trial balloons to see how they fly.

Holy fucking shit are they stupider than stupider lumps of squirrel turd.

More Wow! below.

Open Thread: Tom DeLay Press Conference

Tue Apr 04, 2006 at 05:59:19 AM PDT

I had to get up early to catch up on sme work today and just noticed via Americablog that DeLay is doing a press conference on <<<<<FOXNews>>>> (those are extra-strenght word condoms).

Wash your hands and join the fun.

And now a few quotes rom Abraham Lincoln:

"I am rather inclined to silence, and whether that be wise or not, it is at least more unusual nowadays to find a man who can hold his tongue than to find one who cannot."

"What is conservatism? Is it not adherence to the old and tried, against the new and untried?"

"Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it."

UPDATE: "Greased Pigs" or "JPlod's Truth Disorder"

Sun Apr 02, 2006 at 03:50:40 PM PDT

John Podhoretz and Jonah Goldberg have been playing tag-team greased-pig-wrestling over at The Corner of Filth and Lying'. I wrote about Jonah Goldberg: Coward and Liar yesterday. Now a look at JPlod.

From the most recent posting regarding reporter Jill Carroll's release going backward into the abyss:

Icredi-Unbelievably-Dishonest-A-Go-Go.

JUDD LEGUM... [JPod]
...of ThinkProgress is, basically, unbelievably dishonest.

Deconstructing the pig below the fold.

Jonah Goldberg: Coward and Liar

Sat Apr 01, 2006 at 04:32:27 PM PDT

Jonah Goldberg at the Corner has spent the last couple of days questioning Jill Carroll's worth as a human being. As you probably know, the kidnapped reporter for the Christian Science Monitor was seen in a video shortly after her release saying that the kidnappers had "treated her well."

Goldberg and many on the rightwing blogs went crazy. How dare her? How dare her say that about terrorists? There must be something wrong with her. There must be a flaw in her character. On and on.

Today the Christian Science Monitor printed a statement from Ms. Carroll saying that the video was made under duress. Now the cowardly slime that is the rightwing-hack-o-sphere is attempting to salvage whatever reputations they believe they may have had.

There are plenty  of hacks who went after her. I'm going to focus on Jonah Goldberg, who said on the day of her release:

MAYBE IT'S JUST ME [Jonah Goldberg]
But Jill Carroll is increasingly starting to bug me.

More slime below.

[MEGA MEGA UPDATE]: Scalia Photographer Fired…His Statement

Fri Mar 31, 2006 at 10:20:29 AM PDT

Goddamn Another Update [2006-3-31 5PM PDT by Earl]: Smith has released a statement. "...was a sacrifice that I was willing to make to do the right thing."

Update [2006-3-31 4PM PDT by Earl]: This is the Mega Update. It's been confirmed that Peter Smith owned the photos. It makes his release from further work unethical and possibly grounds for a lawsuit (Just my opinion). See the end of diary for more. (And thanks to Bouwerie Boy for the link.)

END UPDATES

I just read this over at America Blog and I'm so pissed I can hardly fucking type.

Antonin. Fucking. Scalia. got that photographer who took his "Take it up the ass in church!" photo FIRED. (Also here.)

[UPDATE] Domenech's Missing Red America Post

Fri Mar 24, 2006 at 08:18:54 AM PDT

Benny had a post yesterday that went up around the time this whole thing blew up. It's not there anymore. I noticed it as soon as I looked this morning (expecting to see a note that Ben had to spend more time with his pachyderms) and went looking for it.

Update [2006-3-24 11:32:1 by Earl]: It hasn't been pulled entirely, it's simply not on the Red America blog. Very strange. Thanks to Slim Tyranny for letting me know. And I'm going to leave the diary up for the oddness of the move, for the odd links to Redstate, and so anybody who wants to can join the search for bits of stolen goodness at Red America. [End]

Jane at Firedoglake noticed it too and found the cached version the post at WaPo, but not in the Red America blog. It's called The Plight of the Minority Republican.

It had to plagiarized, I thought. Why else would they take it down? So I went looking. I haven't found it yet, but I found something.

More below (and I wrote it all myself).

UPDATE: Confirmed! Harris Will Stay in the Race

Wed Mar 15, 2006 at 06:13:21 PM PDT

Heavens and internets be praised! (Warning! Drudge) If anybody sees her on Hannity, please comment here and let us know. I'm at work, so...

She'll put her entire personal fortune ($10 mils) in to win the race. Holy crap.

Uh, that' all I really had to say. It's not the biggest news in the world, but it's damn good news.

Hoot! Look at this. Too funny. (From Palast.) And this. (Billionaires for Bush.)

Okay. That's all.

Tom Fox Dead; Rush Limbaugh Happy (?)

Sat Mar 11, 2006 at 11:17:22 AM PDT

This is a reposting of a short, powerful Digby piece over at Hullabaloo that I personally want shot out of a cannon from every rooftop in the country. It's about Limbaugh's statement on November 29, 2005, three days after the kidnapping of Tom Fox and three other Christian peace activists in Iraq:

... But any time a bunch of people that walk around with the head in the sand practicing a bunch of irresponsible, idiotic theory confront reality, I'm kind of happy about it, because I'm eager for people to see reality, change their minds if necessary, and have things sized up.

Rush was kind of happy that Tom Fox was kidnapped. Tom Fox had his hands tied behind his back, was beaten with electrical cables, and was shot point blank in the head. His body was just found in a garbage dump. And it kinda gives Rush a rush. More below.

Get well quick, Harry M. Whittington

Tue Feb 14, 2006 at 12:22:43 PM PDT

Vice President Cheney's getting a lot of attention here in the last couple of days, understandably so, but now, especially with the recent unhappy news about Mr. Whittington's condition, I'd like to focus on a guy who got shot. Please join me in wishing Mr. Whittington a quick and thorough recovery.

As a bonus, I found some interesting info on Mr. Whittington:

From CURE (Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants), "a prison reform constituency of prisoners and their families" via HaworthPress.com:

We presumed that prison reform, which was not very popular with Democrats [in Texas], would only get worse under Republicans. We were pleasantly surprised. Harry Whittington was appointed to the Prison Board by Governor Clements, and CURE managed to meet with him before his Senate confirmation.

Whittington initially was the lone, favorable vote of the nine Prison Board members on reform issues. Eventually, a majority of the other Board members joined him

Abramoff Emails Describe Relationship w/ Bush

Wed Feb 08, 2006 at 12:29:09 PM PDT

UPDATE III: I've taken off the "Unrecommend" plea at Cedwyn's bidding. Makes sense to keep ThinkProgress's good work up and spreading around.

This is so huge it's hard to see it. And I've only seen it one place so far. ThinkProgress has seen emails from Abramoff to the editor of the Washingtonian, Kim Eisler.

EXCLUSIVE EMAILS: Jack Abramoff Describes Relationship With President Bush

ThinkProgress has obtained emails written by Jack Abramoff in which the fallen lobbyist personally describes his relationship with President Bush. They depict a relationship far more extensive than has been previously reported.
The emails written by Abramoff were addressed to Kim Eisler, the national editor of Washingtonian magazine.

Wiretapping Indictments!

Mon Feb 06, 2006 at 03:10:50 PM PDT

Dream news from the Smoking Gun!

FEBRUARY 6--An illegal wiretapping and information gathering network run by disgraced president George W. Bush allegedly recorded John Kerry's telephone calls and accessed confidential medical records pertaining to other political figures, including Al Gore, John Edwards, and Howard Dean, journalists Helen Thomas and Seymour Hersh, and Democratic consultants John Podesta and Laura Nichol. President Bush and six associates were named in a 110-count federal racketeering indictment unsealed today in Washington. A copy of the 60-page indictment can be found below.

Wiretap Limbaugh, or Things I've Discussed on a Phone

Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 01:16:45 PM PDT

Some of you may know that Rush Limbaugh, king of all self-appointed windbags, is a drug addict. He was forced to admit that to his wide-eared listeners when it became clear that his drug dealer and former housekeeper had become unhappy with the Limbaugh:
That's when Wilma Cline started keeping a log of her deliveries and preserved desperate e-mails from Limbaugh in which he referred to pills as "small blue babies."

Wilma Cline said she would meet Limbaugh in parking lots, passing a cigar box filled with pills through his Mercedes' window.

During her two last drug deliveries, Wilma Cline told The Enquirer, she secretly audiotaped the transactions.

More down there.

Fortune Left To Nat. Debt...by a Dem. (Now with a link!)

Fri Jan 20, 2006 at 12:10:01 PM PDT

This is rich and I honestly did not see that pun coming.

Millionaire Leaves Entire Estate To Pay National Debt

FINDLAY, Ohio -- A woman who died Nov. 9 at age 98 has bequeathed her $1.1 million estate to the federal government and requested that it be used to help pay down the $8.1 trillion national debt.

Attorney Tom Drake, the executor of Margaret Elizabeth Taylor's estate, said his client made it "very clear" what her fortune was to be used for.
...
Taylor, of Findlay, was a staunch Democrat who believed the national debt should be paid off and she wanted to do her part, Drake said.

More below the belt.
