Are news producers clueless nincompoops or is it something worse?

Some background. Last week's bombing in London seemed to put the west on notice. Unfortunately, Canada couldn't quite escape navel-gazing. Since Thursday, the local news in SW Ontario seemed to be fixated on the bombing and terrorism at large.
Producers can be tools, too

Christ, Lao Tzu, and the Pharisees...a diary written in anger
Tue Mar 22, 2005 at 04:56:24 PM PDT
I am not a big diary person. I am barely an effective commentator to existing diaries. I am a hanger-on, getting high on the creative outrage and musings of others. However, tonight, I was so affably pissed off. I went to the toilet thinking, "We need to use their Christianity against them." However, on the way back in, I spotted a dusty book on the shelf...long-ago bought, and long-ago opened. It is the Tao of Jesus. Now, I presume to be much more of a Buddhist than anything, but I have roots in Christ. It's a part of my western society make-up. I thought, "I bet I can find some decent points in here."
Why does Walmart hate America
Tue Mar 08, 2005 at 03:46:37 PM PDT
From this afternoon's online Toronto Star, Walmart is among a group of retailers lobbying for truckers to have a 16 hour work day.

Boozman, repub congressman from Arkansas, is sponsoring the bill. It's being offered as an amendment but essentially pushes for truckers to put in 16 hour days with an unpaid 2-hour break. That's great news if you're a trucker or a commuter on the highway. Current laws stipulate 14 hour days with only 11 consecutive hours.
I love the quote from Joan Claybrook, president of Public Citizen. She asserts that the amendment is a "sweatshop-on-wheels amendment."
US conducting secret missions inside Iran

I just pulled this off of Yahoo. The Reuters story...

=7337636 is here. (Sorry for my lack of proper HTML-ing, etc).
Anyway, the indication is that Sy Hersch has written an article for New Yorker magazine and he relates that, "the secret missions have been going on at least since last summer with the goal of identifying target information for three dozen or more suspected sites."
Reading further, it looks like the civilian Pentagon folk want to get into Iran. Problem is, with what troops? I'm interested in how Hersch was able to get the information. I'd be guessing that anyone talking with him, even anonymously, would be anathema.
