Where Were You 40 Years Ago Today?
Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 09:08:08 AM PDT
I had gone to bed right as the state was called for RFK, it was late to be up for a 14 year old high school Freshman so I didn't see anything that had happened afterwards. It was a big night for me, I was so happy RFK had won and on the following morning of the 6th, a little personal victory for me was slated as well. I was going to be sworn in as class president for our upcoming Sophomore year. I had been on cloud 9 for a week since my own little landslide victory.
Monkey Mail Obama Smear Job
Sat Jan 05, 2008 at 02:52:22 PM PDT
The first of what promises to be many more monkey mail smear jobs on Obama in my inbox and from of all people, a Thai client of mine. I'm half way tempted to post up the 100 or so unhidden email addys that accompanied it and let the Kos Obamaians have at them.
That'd be pretty funny come to think of it.
I'm an Edwards guy but we all knew this and much, much worse is coming for Obama and where it might steel his supporters' resolve, what effect will it have on our less savvy Americans?

Bill Moyers: My Father and FDR
By Bill Moyers, TheNation.com. Posted November 22, 2007.
Note: Bill Moyers gave the following remarks at the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute's twentieth-anniversary Four Freedoms ceremony, where he received the Freedom of Speech award.
Thank you for this recognition and the spirit of the evening. Thanks especially for giving me the chance to sit here awhile thinking about my father. Henry Moyers was an ordinary man who dropped out of the fourth grade because his family needed him to pick cotton to help make ends meet.
The Depression knocked him off the farm and flat on his back. When I was born he was making two dollars a day working on the highway to Oklahoma City. He never made over $100 a week in the whole of his working life, and he made that only when he joined the union on the last job he held. He voted for Franklin Roosevelt in four straight elections, and he would have gone on voting for him until kingdom come if both had lived that long. I once asked him why, and he said, "Because the President's my friend."

89 years ago a great tragedy came whimpering to a close, and though guns fired and men died right up to that moment for a war that had effectively been won back in September, the guns along the Western Front finally fell silent.
What Democrats Really Need to be Running Against
Mon Jun 04, 2007 at 07:24:58 PM PDT
Looking at how the Fred Thompson candidacy is unfolding and all the Rovians flocking to it I can see it now- the second coming of St Ronnie as a DC outsider, and looking at the current Dem filed (especially HRC and Obama whose every word seems scripted by an idiot like Bob Shrum) I'm worried about it.
Not that these clueless numbskulls could manage against a Rovian campaign runing a Hamilton Beach blender as an "outsider". The Gooper Nominee is irrelevant because what every Dem on every level needs to be running against is the bankrupt notion of "Conservatism" itself.

Iranian Devils!
Fri Mar 30, 2007 at 08:26:58 AM PDT
Umm Maybe not.
From an Iranian friend, a little historical accuracy, or at least the other side of the story- the individual, Cyrus Kar, making this film was held in Abu Ghraib. He is an Iranian-American, picked up by US Troops while filming at the ruins of Babylon and is suing Rummy now for his illegal detention.
This other film mentioned here, "300" has disturbed me regarding its timing, an obvious demoization of the Iranians via their Persian Empire ancestors and probably just part of the propaganda machine distributing its crap via Hollywood.
48 Years Ago Today
Sat Feb 03, 2007 at 05:50:12 PM PDT
The music died.
A long, long time ago... I can still remember how
That music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance,
That I could make those people dance,
And maybe they'd be happy for a while.
But February made me shiver,
With every paper I'd deliver,
Bad news on the doorstep...
I couldn't take one more step.
I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside,
The day the music died.

What Dems SHOULD Say about Immigration
Wed Jul 12, 2006 at 04:53:36 PM PDT
I like simple wedges against the Cheap Labor Conservatives (CLC's) using their own "free market"
theology dogma. As we (or most of us know) the entire "illegal immigrant issue" is an attempt by the Repugs to drive wedes between working people- teh powerful have been doing this forever but it is not an issue of worker against worker. It is a class issue between capital and labor, And as such it's Supply and Demand.
The demand comes from Cheap Labor Conservative Corporations that hire undocumented workers- Fast food, janitorial and landscaping services, meat packing, agribusiness, etc.
The Solution? Throw the fucking CEO's in jail!
Will it ever happen? No, probably not. It doesn't need to but what it does do is re-direct this issue not as the intended electoral ally of the CLC bought & paid for Thug politicos, but as a weapon against them and here's how it works;

Everyone knows Government Doesn't Work!
Mon Jul 10, 2006 at 09:22:35 PM PDT
Cheap Labor Conservatives love to smear government. It's "inefficient" it's a damn "bureacracy"- y'all know the drill. They've done this becaue they know damn well it does work and they want it working for them.
Cross Posted at Conceptual Guerilla's Strategy and Tactics
How do we talk about that? It's the toxic CW within a vast number of people and it's been planted there by the Cheap Labor Conservatives. It needs rooting out. Maybe if we just remember. . .

In an LTE diarist
Pen, a Big Daddy Con revealed a psychological tick in a reply to Pen's discussion of a "Free Market Solution" to Latino immigration. Pen's respondent posited the curious notion that it is a duty of Government to "protect the culture". Oh?

Doing my bit with Monkeymail
Mon Jun 19, 2006 at 04:23:38 PM PDT
This came from one of my nice wingnut clients- she is a genuinely sweet person who just can't imagine that everything she has been led to believe politically is a lie and those she supports are criminals and liars. So, when I get something from her straight from the Monkeymail network, I like to pass along a nice de-bunking.

The Boogeyman and the Straussian Elite
Tue Jun 13, 2006 at 09:04:28 AM PDT
The
Straussians' core beliefs feature the neccessity of a boogeyman to keep the people in line with fear and to suck their money out of their pockets and into the "right" pockets. Asshole 1 let it slip once, he said in 1992 that the entire agenda of the Republican Party and his "New World Order" could be summed up as; (I paraphrase)
"Sending money up to ever higher, tighter and righter hands."

This is my first diary, long time reader, occasional commenter but of all the issues discussed here, this one REALLY BUGS ME. And if you're a Democrat/Liberal/Progressive it should you too.
I originally posted this as a comment on another diary. I hope re-posting as a diary will encourage further discussion and education.
