Poll: McCain's Age is Fair Game?

Thu Jun 12, 2008 at 02:47:31 PM PDT

Kos likes the front page to make fun of McCain's age. I personally think it's ok to point out places where the man's senility is showing through since he is going ot have his hand on the button (or not if we can help it).

We were not vigilant enough as a country when it came to President Reagan, so let's not make the same mistake twice.  But pure age jokes, while funny, probably should not be on the table, well, unless they are HILARIOUS and not too mean (McCain's Social Security Number = 1?, Can't resist that one) -- my opinion.

What's your opinion?  I want to see a lot of people vote in the poll because I'm curious. If you want to see votes, rec this up.

Latest Cheney Tape May Contain Evidence Of His Whereabouts

Wed Jun 11, 2008 at 07:49:46 AM PDT

The Onion has been slipping for a long time, with longer and longer periods between sidesplitters, but they are back on this week:

WASHINGTON—Reports surfaced Tuesday that the New York–based Fox News Channel has obtained a tape which purportedly features another cryptic video message from U.S. vice president and known extremist Dick Cheney, widely regarded as the most feared man in America.

[The grainy image of the characteristically unsmiling Cheney is hilarious but I don't know how to copy it here without linking to the website]

Cheney calls on Americans around the world to join the fight in Iraq.
"We have analyzed the tape, and the voice on it matches up with earlier recordings of the vice president," said CIA spokesman George Little, who claimed the tape may contain valuable clues regarding the location of the elusive Cheney, who was last sighted in late 2005 along the border of Maryland and Virginia.

"Though more specific details on his whereabouts have yet to emerge, we do know two things," Little added. "Dick Cheney is still alive, and he is out there somewhere."

Hillary pulls a Lieberman on O'Reilly Show

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 02:08:05 PM PDT

Leaked transcript confirms that she's entered the phase of the campaign where she chooses between her own fight for political survival and the good of the party and goes for her own self interest.

Hastert's Other Scandal

Sat Oct 07, 2006 at 08:21:21 AM PDT

Hastert should resign his seat in Congress, but not because he spent two three years sitting on evidence of possible harrasment pederasty predatory behavior.  Hastert's other scandal is that he used his position as Speaker of the House to enrich himself by securing federal earmarks for a Highway to Denny's House.  See below the fold...

GOP reaches out to Hispanics

Fri Oct 06, 2006 at 05:40:20 AM PDT

...and slaps them in the face.

This website by the Republican Party in DC (the NRCC) says everything you need to know about the sincerity of the party's outreach to minorities, including Latinos.

Stop the Diary Poll Abuse (w/Poll!)

Wed Oct 04, 2006 at 03:00:31 PM PDT

Can we please resist the urge to abuse the poll feature of diary posts?

Here is a good use of polls: What is your sexual orientation and abuse history?
and here is a waste of space poll: Best word to describe Faux News broadcaster.

I just tiptoed through the polls and had to through about 50 to get to the real ones.  These could be useful features if only we knew how to use them properly and did not clutter the list of polls with junk.

Bush caught in lie while defending torture

Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 07:20:10 AM PDT

We are all familiar with Bush's recent speeches trying to get his party's collective ass out of a sling.  But his latest one, a defense of torture, is, based on lies.  THe speech would make Goebbels Disney/ABC Tom Clancy proud.

In the speech, Bush shows off how we learned so much information by torturing a guy named Abu Zubaydah.  Too bad that's not actually true.  Spencer Ackerman has the smackdown.

After Connecticut, Rhode Island

Mon Aug 07, 2006 at 04:02:05 PM PDT

Ok, it may not be next on the calendar, but the Sept 12 GOP primary in Rhode Island will be fun to watch.  Just like Joe Lieberman, Senator Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) has a primary challenger who is bucking the national party to make a statement.

Freepers feel about Chafee the way folks here feel about about Lieberman except that they seem perfectly willing to sacrifice a Senate seat over it.  The National Republican Party is supporting the incumbent and even attacking the challenger, as has been diaried nicely here by Pruitt.  But the GOP has a much greater chance of losing a Senate seat over it.

Narrating the Open Thread

Mon Sep 12, 2005 at 07:21:23 AM PDT

"Silence isn't golden" getting old?  How about a meta-diary with suggestions on how to announce those open threads?

"Because George W. Bush is still President."

"Exercise your Free Speech rights while you have 'em."

"Pimp your diaries here. On second thought, don't."

"Where O/T is OK."

"Which Republicans are you hating most today?"

"Open yer piehole."

"Let's start a Leftwing Noise Machine."

Encounter with an "illegal" Mexican today

Wed Aug 24, 2005 at 01:42:59 PM PDT

I hopped on the bus today here in DC and saw this Jamaican bus driver trying to help out a 17-year old kid who couldn't speak any English.  The busdriver made a pretty good attempt at fake Spanish and held up the bus for three cycles of the light to try and help the kid, but it was a lost cause.

Being more or less fluent in Spanish, I jumped in and asked the kid if I could help.

Righting the ship after Bush

Sun Aug 07, 2005 at 06:03:18 AM PDT

When Bush is out of office and hopefully replaced by a Democrat, or at least a reality-based politician, will the world go back to normal?

Here are some steps that would help me feel like the ship of state that Bush capsized has been righted.

Religious indoctrination at the Naval Academy too

Tue Jun 14, 2005 at 02:18:30 PM PDT

Ugh.  Why do our public institutions have to crap on the Bill of Rights by establishing a state religion?  First it was the Air Force Academy.  Now we have to read that the Naval Academy is literally making our middies pray to Jesus for their lunch.

A spokesperson for the Naval Academy would say only that the academy "does not require midshipmen to recite a prayer during their noon meal." But others there say all 4,000 midshipmen are required to attend lunch. They must also remain standing in formation while announcements are made and while the chaplain recites a prayer before they are permitted to sit.

Ohio Patriot Pastors: No Forum for You!

Thu Jun 02, 2005 at 08:51:55 AM PDT

As you all may have seen, the American Taliban has targeted Ohio for a takeover, via the Ohio Restoration Project (restoring Ohio to the 17th Century).

Well, their website had an online forum which allowed users to log in and post comments on how Jesus tells them to get involved in Republican politics.

Had.  One day after Kos front-paged the story, they scrubbed the forum.  Coincidence?

Tax Day Coming, Think of DC

Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 10:26:37 AM PDT

Well, I hope you are all up to date on your income taxes!  For those of us who live in the District of Columbia -- the Last Colony -- April 15 is a sad day. It's the day we send our taxes to a bunch of Congressmen from all of your states and give up any say as to how those taxes are spent.

That's right.  Taxation without Representation.  We have no voting House members.  We have no Senators.

But YOU CAN HELP.  Right now our goal is simply to raise awareness outside of DC of this stain on our democracy.  Go here for a simple way YOU can participate in a real grassroots effort (pun intended).

Out the Soldier!

Fri Mar 11, 2005 at 08:19:20 AM PDT

We've all seen the despicable USA Next netad attacking the AARP.  It shows AARP with a check next to a pair of happy grooms and an x-mark next to an American soldier.

And we're enjoying watching USA Next get their propagandist asses sued, successfully so far, by the couple in the photo.

What they didn't tell you is that the soldier is also totally gay.  Ok, I made that up, but that's my assignment to all you bloggers everywhere:

Find the soldier and check it out, just in case.

We blogospherians must find and expose all irony everywhere!

Ask Dobson to Pray for You

Fri Jan 21, 2005 at 11:03:58 AM PDT

After the spongebob thing I decided to head on over to Focus on the Family's website.  They have a place where you can submit a prayer.

Welcome to 16th Century Europe

Fri Dec 17, 2004 at 07:47:04 AM PDT

Well, the Crusades are back.  Today on NPR they ran a story about where the U.S. military is seeking to offset its deep deficit of foreign language skills.

The answer is the Mormon missionaries.  Does it strike anyone else besides me as an uncomfortable coincidence that we're sending Christian missionaries and the U.S. military to the same places around the world?  It makes you think the Arab governments are not as paranoid as they are made out to be.
