NetrootsNation Photopalooza!
Sat Jul 19, 2008 at 10:18:06 AM PDT
Those of you who were unable to be here have been crying for photos, descriptions, liveblogging, video, and all sorts of other fun stuff. I aim to please. Make the jump and I'll share photos from the last couple days.
Observations from Netroots Nation, Day One.
Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 10:04:20 PM PDT
Howdy y'all. It's 11:50PM Central time, 12:50AM my time. I was going to come up here and go to bed after a long day of hobnobbing with famous people here in Austin, but I don't really feel like going to bed. So I'm going to post random thoughts about Netroots Nation, and maybe some other Austin-going Kossacks will chime in, but more than likely this diary will sink like a stone never to be seen again.
FLIP.
The Daily Show/Colbert Report Non-Spoiler and Chat Thread, 07.07.08
Mon Jul 07, 2008 at 07:49:19 PM PDT
Hey everybody--I've had a hectic day, so I don't have much planned. Whoever said it was a good idea for me to work a ten hour day on the Monday following a holiday weekend (at the beginning of the month, no less)...well, you're not my friend anymore. So you guys are pretty much on your own, content-wise. You don't mind, do you? No one ever reads the diary anyway, right?
(Casual observation to make tonight's intro longer: today is 7.7.08, so anyone that got married on the lucky 7.7.07 last year, Happy Anniversary. Anyone want to take bets on how many couples didn't make it?)

(Note: Hola, Grinderinos! Once again ek did all the heavy lifting and I get all the glory. And as meticulous as our beloved ek is, the HTML he emailed to me was borked and I have no idea how to fix it, so no fancy Hypnotoad table for you. And as much as I'm inclined to add a poll, I will defer to ek and leave you poll-less. Rules is rules, you know.)

RERUNS! Of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, that is. 06.30.08
Mon Jun 30, 2008 at 07:54:02 PM PDT
Just another Manic Monday...
And while we all could use some comic relief, Jon and Stephen somehow think they're entitled to a summer vacation. Bastards. So we're in reruns for the next two weeks.
Tonight's TDS rerun is from June 18 and features Daily Show alum and Get Smart star Steve Carell. Our fearless leader TiaRachel was eating flourless torte with famous people that evening, but her original thread is here.
Tonight's TCR rerun is from June 19 and features Bishop N.T. Wright. He wrote some book. Religion...zzzzz. TiaRachel's original bloggy goodness is here.
FLIP!
My First Pride
Sun Jun 29, 2008 at 01:18:56 PM PDT
(cross-posted in a slightly different format at MichiganLiberal.)
I'm sitting in the Café of the Barnes and Noble on 28th St. in Grand Rapids, MI recovering and recaffeinating my body after surviving a hectic and wonderful day yesterday.
I have to be honest: I'm a homosexual, but I'm a fairly conservative homosexual. I didn't acknowledge my sexuality publicly until I was 22. My friends and I were planning a trip to see a Stephen Lynch concert in Pontiac, and we were discussing the merits of Lynch's act. We acknowledged that he's a good singer and that he's hilarious, and then I just blurted out, "He's hot, too!" In any event, I've only been to the gay bar in Muskegon 4-5 times, and drag queens still make me nervous. I only came out at work about six months ago. I've never had a boyfriend. I'm 26, and yesterday was my first Pride.
I learned a lot yesterday. I learned a lot about life, about people, and about the Gay Agenda. I initially tagged along expecting fun and games, but yesterday turned out to be an educational experience.
Join me over the flip and find out what I learned.

Late Night TV (TDS/TCR) Open Thread, 03.25.08

Evening, everybody.
We're still in reruns.
Tonight's TDS rerun is from March 20 and features Alex Kingsbury, an associate editor at US News and World Report.
Tonight's TCR rerun is also from March 20, and features Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway.
The original thread is here.
Late Night TV (TDS/TCR/Olbermann) Rerun Thread, Pinch-Hitter Edition, 03.24.08
Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 07:52:19 PM PDT
Good evening ladies and germs!
Unfortunately, Jon and Stephen are holed up in an undisclosed location this week (I'm not sure where, but I'll bet there are cabana boys) and not doing shows.
Our fearless leader, the spectaculariffic TiaRachel, is resting her weary fingers, so you're stuck with me.
Flip it. Come on. You know you want to.
Reruns, Reruns, Reruns... (Daily Show, Colbert, and Olbermann Reruns, that is)
Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 07:56:10 PM PDT
*sigh*
Reruns, reruns and more reruns.
One thing that wasn't a rerun tonight was the lunar eclipse. If you're lucky enough to live somewhere where it was visible, I hope you had a chance to see it. I watched it out my driver's side window on my drive home tonight. Sadly, Mother Nature doesn't have TiVo yet (although with all these reruns my TiVo is kinda empty right now.)
Anyway...
Tonight's your chance to re-watch Jon's takedown of Bill Kristol. Stephen's got Dr. Mark Moffatt, aka Dr. Bugs.
Overzealous meta-ranting over the flip...
Most Definitely Not the Daily Show/Colbert Report/Olbermann Rerun Spoiler Thread 02.18.08
Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 07:58:30 PM PDT
Evening, everybody...
The Oscars are next weekend and our boy Jon is hosting, so the shows are in reruns. (Jon's working the Oscars, but Stephen's just off this week...lucky him!) In any event...
Tonight's TDS features Tim Gunn, author of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. TCR has Tony Campolo, author of Adventures in Missing the Point and Jacob Weisberg, author of The Bush Tragedy. These are reruns of the shows that aired on February 4th, before the strike was settled, so it's up to you whether or not you want to watch. Hey, it's your conscience. Me, I've got other stuff to do...
Time For A 50-State Strategy To Become A 435-District Strategy
Wed Feb 13, 2008 at 07:41:18 PM PDT
(Also available in blue.)
Very early this morning as I was doing research for my Wednesday morning turn at posting Coffee Talk at MichiganLiberal.com (analogous to the dKos Mid-Day Open Thread, but posted at the ungodly hour of 7:30AM), I was clicking through the Grand Rapids Press section of MLive.com. The article was about the Michigan/Florida primary boondoggle and how that all may have to be straightened out in light of the tight race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. The paragraph said:
Beyond Michigan and Florida, they could hold the nomination in their grasp. Michigan's super delegates include Granholm, Levin and fellow Sen. Debbie Stabenow, six members of Congress, 17 state members of the Democratic National Committee and two members to be chosen in May. There are no DNC members from west of Lansing.
That last line floored me.
And the Sausage Grinder of Snark Said..."Awwww, not again!"
Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 07:58:56 PM PDT
Yeah, that's right. Tia's gone again, so you're stuck with me. Tough beans. She'll be back tomorrow, and you can regale her with tales of what a dingus I am...
:-)
And the Sausage Grinder of Snark said..."Where's TiaRachel?"
Tue Jan 29, 2008 at 07:54:50 PM PDT
Our fearless leader, the inimitable TiaRachel, is down for the count with Ye Olde Creeping Crud...so you're stuck with me. I'm not as good at this as she is, so bear with me.
Below the fold you'll find some entertaining stuff to get you through your WGA-strike-induced stupor. My comment thread is your playground. And Rachel, if you're out there, may the antibodies be with you!
