I apologize for my poor editing skills. I think placing the update at the end makes for a more understandable read. What happened to us at the New School Graduation May 19 2006

I am posting this diary at the request of several Dailykos members and because of the desire to let people know what happened to me and my husband on his graduation day at Madison Square Garden, yesterday, May 19.

My husband was supposed to be celebrating 6 years of long, hard, groundbreaking work that cost us countless hours of time, effort, and money.  He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the New School with honors.  We spent a nice morning celebrating at the NSSR graduation ceremony and then having lunch with his faculty advisors and family.  My husband took a taxi with his friend and two faculty advisors over to Madison Square Garden and I followed with my two young children.

When I arrived, my husband was standing outside Madison Square Garden by the student entrance.  He called to me and said, "They won't let me in."  He explained what happened as he had entered the building with his friend.

NY-13 Democrat Michael Cusick decides not to run for Congress in 2006

A friend of mine active in politics here in Brooklyn and Staten Island emailed me this article from the Staten Island Advance. Michael Cusick, one of the Democratic hopes to run against staunch Bush supporter Rep. Vito Fossella next year in 2006 has decided to keep his seat in the State Assembly and declare now that he will not run for Congress in 2006.  He stated that he knows that Democrats are eager to find a viable and vigorous candidate to run against Fossella, so he made his decision early. That leaves City Councilman Michael McMahon as the top choice for Democrats, and he seems to be on the fence. The article states that many possible candidates feel that Fossella will be tough to beat, despite a horrible year for the GOP.
