As a scientist, Al Gore and Wes Clark are certainly the 2 politicians that I admire the most who possess the clear potential to become great presidents   - each for their staunch leadership in defending science against nefarious theocons, and mostly for defending and honoring the principles of American democracy.  

Who would ever imagine that a NATO 4-Star General of the Army and a Secretary of the Navy ally their "forces" in a major offensive to defend science, under the leadership of someone suffering Parkinson's Disease?

  This is the major front for SCIENCE!  This is the Fighting Dems battle for the 110th Congress!

General Wesley Clark will be speaking at Bethany College, WV on 9/11 tomorrow night ::

Wes Clark has been the most credible authority on national security and foreign policy regarding the "war of terror", especially for the Democratic Party.   As our nation deals with the global crisis that are a direct result of the policy failures of this Administration,  I believe that C-Span must cover this important speech.

Personally, I equate this speech, as historically significant as Clark's "Real State of the Union Address" speech earlier in the year for New American Foundation with host Steve Clemons.

The Walt Disney Company disgraceful attempt to politicise the tragic day of 9/11 with its "documentary" or "mockumentary" is   wholely un-American!  Should this air, ABC will be complicit with Disney's fantasies of deceit for the Bush Administration.   In its alliance with FOX, Walt Disney and ABC, the Bush administration and his Neo-Cons are engaged in a desperate, yet coordinated offensive to save face for the GOP in 11/7 -- the November 2006 midterm elections.  

Update [2006-9-5 12:18:46 by Knightrider]: Wesley Clark just finished, and empathically stated that the war in Iraq was a "strategic blunder" ,.. "It was a mistake" by this administration, whose policies have made us less secure now, than we were 5 years ago.

Well it seems that 'The Producers' in our government, our Senators, have scratched their own record (again) from public scrutiny.  Apparently, it's not your biz'ness to know exactly how GOPs conduct their bid'ness to the tune of billion$ for their favorite no-bid contractors!   ; /

During the 70's and 80's, I grew up more fortunate than others, mostly in an upper middle class suburb in central New Jersey.     But as the only dark-skinned American of multi-ethnic decent throughout most of my schooling from Grades 3-12,   I've certainly been on the recieving end of many racial epithets, slurs and provocations.   So admittedly, .. I've become very, VERY sensitive.

So when a leading 2008 GOP presidential hopeful, Senator George Allen (VA), addressed S.R. Sidarth, as "Macaca",  I immediately recognised its racial connotation and became outraged.    Sadly, racism persists today because of racial bigots, like Senator George Allen and others, who hold powerful leadership positions, but fail to witness and respect the cultural richness of their own constituency --  in the 'real world' - the real America.

My synopsis:

As a continuation of Wes Clark's previous podcast (#9) on the "State of the Middle East, Clark answers questions from Iowans; and once again shares his great depth of insight regarding the Middle East: Iraq vs America's F vs C- Option;  the Palestinian/Israeli conflict and the new Hamas government; and Iran on its nuclear enrichment program --- each consequential of Bush's failure in leadership and foreign policy failures with diplomacy, particularly in light of the Administrations decision to use torture, renditions and secret camps.

Overall, Clark explains why US policy in the region must change course and how to start this process; and why it's vital that America restore its credibility, standing and respect around the world through real leadership, particularly as these issues pose serious challenges to our longer term and broader national security interests.  ...

General Clark is addressing all, or most, of the Democratic Senators here at their retreat in Philadelphia.  Senator Landrieu just gave him a very warm and flattering introduction and General Clark has just begun outlining his vision.

The Union of Concerned Scientists has just issued this petition/action alert to prevent Wehrum's appointment to head EPA's top air quality agency.  Please participate and notify your legislator of your opposition to his nomination to the EPA's Air Quality Office by the Bush Administration.

This is a great new podcast by Wes Clark who discusses a synopsis of the scientific evidence regarding global warming and climate change. It's based on the consensus views of leading climatologists around the world; all of whom have advocated for more aggressive action by our leaders in Washington.   Clark further explains its important national security implications; and why the world community, its leaders and each of us, must work together to address these issues, today'; and implement a national and global strategy within the next few years.

The 2-Day Conference featured many distinguished speakers with expertise from both sides of the debate on science policy issues: government policy makers, industry and academic experts.  Everyone agreed that the science community needed communicate more effectively to the general public.  But there was also consensual agreement among everyone that the Bush Administration was executing an unprecedented campaign devaluate scientific findings, by deliberately distorting and suppressing scientific evidence into the science policy-making process.

During thirty-four years of service in the United States Army Wesley K. Clark rose to the rank of four-star general as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander, Europe.   In his final military command, General Clark commanded Operation Allied Force, NATO's first major combat action, which saved 1.5 million Albanians from ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.  General Clark was also responsible for directing the peacekeeping operation in Bosnia.  General Clark was also a Democratic presidential primary candidate in the 2004 elections. ...

Today I watched Lakoff present fascinating insights into how "framing" has structured American politics from our common notions of family and moral values.  This is especially significant today, since it's used by powerful (neo)conservative think-tanks to frame public debate and to skew government policy-making with policies, which do not necessarily serve the interests of our nations common values.

Lakoff also offers insights into the Alito nomination hearing, as an example, to what may be a dangerous trend in America towards "absolute conservatism", which grew from a "Strict Father" model of the world view.

President Bush and the neocons are engaged in a new spin campaign to shift blame from their own failures in conducting the war in Iraq and in failing to protect our troops!  President Bush must address these concerns and must be held accountable!
