A nation 'degraded': what 'infrastructure' means in Lebanon

Thu Jul 20, 2006 at 04:52:04 PM PDT

My dear friend Rasha moved back to Beirut the day before the fighting started and has been documenting each day via email.  Her diaries are incredible and have been noticed (part of one was posted here at Kos earlier today I believe).

I want to post part of her diary from the second day of the siege, which focuses on the destruction of Lebanon's infrastructure.  The loss of innocent life is clearly the most terrible price of the current violence, but Lebanon's infrastructure was special, as Rasha describes.

(Rafik Hariri was Prime Minister of Lebanon for ten years and guided the physical and social reconstruction of the country following the end of the civil war.)
