Take a little trip down Rorshach lane with me.

I seriously think we have a gender problem here at dKos, but I also see a way we can solve it.  What I've felt is that the party movers, in an effort to attract more white males, are disregarding the needs, rights  and efforts of Democratic women.  I'm here to ring the buzzer on that one, but I also see a need for women to be more organized and forthright about what we expect from our party.

So I think it is time the women here group, discuss and articulate the issues of greatest importance to us. So come on down.  We have work to do.

Time to Call a Coup a Coup

Fri May 20, 2005 at 06:40:27 AM PDT

(This is the title of a comment I made the other day, but now researched and expanded into a diary.)

What we see in the Senate right now is not a procedural spat about voting percentages, or even the quality of judges, horrendous as they may be.  This is a one of the last of a series of battles done by Totalitarian Republicans, who need to silence any and all means of powerful speech in order to have total control over the government.  They want the "minority" to have no voice, and not even a minimum of input into the government.

They want a government run by fanatics, for the benefit of fanatics.

Follow me if you dare.

In Her Own Words: 13 year old denied abortion

Sat Apr 30, 2005 at 06:42:28 AM PDT

I spent last night in a deep discussion with my traditionalist Catholic mother.  After several glasses of wine I brought up the case of the 13 year old girl in Florida who wants an abortion.  I could clearly see her struggle, and finally she came down on the side of choice for the girl.  It was not easy for her, and I applaud her sincere thought.

In the end it came down to 2 things: first, that the male would continue his life unhindered and unpunished and second, that the girl expressed her choice in her own words.

Here they are, from the Sun-Sentinel.

Comfort Food

Mon Apr 04, 2005 at 08:06:23 PM PDT

What a day.

Republicans freely threaten judges.
Oil hit new highs, our Constitution hit new lows.
Scandal after scandal gets a free ride and Meteor Blades has a heartstopping tragedy.

We need the help of some of serious comfort foods. So, out with the recipes too good for trolls.

I give you mine below the fold.

Women's Refuge

Mon Apr 04, 2005 at 07:17:40 AM PDT

Enough.

Enough images of a woman's body being batted around like a trophy.

Enough of being told that biology is destiny, and my destiny is to serve. Stop claiming that serving is really ruling.

Enough equating my sexuality with my personhood.  I'm sick of women's rights being trotted out only when talking about sex.

This diary is intended as a haven from the onslaught of images and media reports that deny women's potential.

Warning!    There are no reports of which male will be chosen to tell half a billion Catholic women how to live.  There are also no advertisements for liposuction.

How Weird is your Family?

Sun Mar 13, 2005 at 10:47:32 AM PDT

In 6 days I'll be heading down the road to spend spring break in Arkansas with my husband's relatives.  I met him in college and fell in love long before I met his family. Fortunately for me, he did the same.  I'd like to introduce you to the folks I'll be dancing around gingerly for a week.
