Denver County Convention
Sun Mar 09, 2008 at 10:34:00 AM PDT
I wanted to get this posted yesterday; but, the convention ran extraordinarily long.
Yesterday, I attended my first democratic county convention along with many, many other first timers. It was difficult to find anyone among the delegates who had been to a convention before. This is the next step after the caucuses we held on super Tuesday to electing our delegates to the National Convention.
Excruciating details on the other side.
Latinokos: Futbol

No one has posted a Latinokos diary yet today, so I figured that I would throw one out there to keep this going. I am working on a more political diary regarding CAFTA and its reception in Costa Rica. It’s not ready yet so this one will discuss the most important issue in Latin America; Futbol.

And I don't see a whole lot that can be done about it. We've been, as she so eloquently put it, "fucked" since Reagan took office in 1981. We just didn't know it. Many of us still don't know it.
I am pissed. We are caught in a catch-22 from which there is no way to break free. Think about it.
"Oh, gillmp you're wrong! One person can make a difference. Stay and fight. Lets take back the party!"
You know what that sounds like to me now? "We've turned the corner in Iraq! Sure we just lost 20 more soldiers and killed a thousand more Iraqis today; but, Freedom is on the March!"
I'm Goddamned serious.
Clarence Thomas and Separation of Church and State

For some reason I once subscribed to the Newsmax email list. Most of the time I can't stand to open the emails, much less read them. Every now and then when I want a peek at what's going on over there I will read the email. Today I found a wonderful little tid-bit about Clarence Thomas.
Growing up "White", Yellow, and Brown. Racism
Thu May 19, 2005 at 09:38:46 PM PDT
I was raised "white". I don't look much like any one's stereotype of a minority. I have an Irish last name. I was raised in Virginia and have a slight Virginia accent. However, my grandfather on my mother's side was from Bolivia with the surname "de Luna". Officially the United States says I am a minority.
This diary by leftilicious inspired me to write my thoughts on the subject since I too am raising a child born to a race different than mine.
The start of my adult thinking on the subject of race was an article I read in the 80's. The essence of the article, published in the Utne Reader was that a first step to rejecting racism was to refuse to accept the designation of "white". (Sorry I don't have a link. The article was printed in the 80's and Utne's online archives only go back to 1995). The contention of the author was that "White" is not a race at all and only is used to designate those who have been accepted into the highest classification of our society.
Okay, I need help

My father is a one issue voter that gets a "variety" of news viewpoints. He watches fox news, reads NRA publications, listens to Rush, and reads the Drudge report and I suspect Newsmax. So you see many different media sources old and new...
I have learned that if I just go to one of these sources I can easily predict what it is he is going to be up in arms about when our discussion turns to politics. (except maybe the NRA rants. I still haven't been able to figure out where they're coming from.)
This has been helpful. The trouble is I have limited time and resources to address all the misrepresentations these "sources" report.
The purpose of this diary is to solicit assistance from the dkos community in helping me deconstruct some right "talking points". Hopefully, this will be useful to more than just me.
