Clinton team tries to steal delegates in convention

Sun Mar 30, 2008 at 06:13:44 PM PDT

This is an update from my sister's story from yesterday about Sheila Jackson Lee.

My sister told me that their convention lasted until past 8pm last night. Apparently Clinton supporters attempted to use procedure to steal delegates during their county convention. Apparently it was pretty chaotic, but here's she reported to me. Oddly enough, it wasn't delegate poaching, but far worse. Read on for details and some important lessons to be learned from this experience.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign responded. They said they're aware of the problem and are currently investigating this.

Hillary's right: some states don't matter

Sun Mar 09, 2008 at 10:59:27 AM PDT

Barack Obama has won more popular votes (600,000 more), more pledged delegates (O: 1368 vs C: 1226), more total delegates (O: 1578 vs C: 1468), more state contests (O: 27 vs C: 12), and more Bollywood actors. However, Hillary Clinton and her campaign has done a great job of reminding us of what that matters: New York, California, and the handful of other states where she has won primaries. The reason is that Hillary Clinton is correct; some states simply matter more than others. I have a proposal that can take advantage of this for everyone's benefit!

Action in Texas: Resolution to Thank Howard Dean

Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 07:19:10 AM PDT

Update: added to the resolution in the last line to say that we will also continue the 50 state strategy for future elections.

This information might be helpful for any of the contests happening today, but I wrote this specifically for Texas.

Back when Howard Dean started advocating his 50 State Strategy, there were many who criticized him and said that it would never work. The success in 2006 and what we've seen in terms of voter turnout for 2008 suggest that Dean was correct. If you believe the Democratic Party should continue this 50 State Strategy, we should all submit a resolution at our Precinct Conventions tonight. The more districts that pass this resolution, the better the chance it will make it to the national level!

Text on the resolution I'm submitting below.

Democrat stands in the way of Accenture tax avoidance

Thu Jul 14, 2005 at 05:42:53 AM PDT

Another under-the-radar effort by one of the so-called "Benedict Arnold" companies that move offshore to avoid paying taxes.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Accenture lobbyists are close to getting Congress to pass a bill allowing them to avoid paying U.S. income taxes altogether. The article, "Accenture Lobbyists Near Big Win On Securing Tax-Haven Status" (July 14, 2005; subscription required). However, currently Democat Charlie Rangel of New York, the ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee has not agreed to Accenture's request saying "Clearly, this is not considered fair...in a time of war for people to be looking to avoid taxes."

Florida denies right to abortion to 13 y.o. despite own law

Sat Apr 30, 2005 at 07:50:32 AM PDT

I ran across this article on the BBC News "Florida girl has abortion blocked". According to the article, "a pregnant 13-year-old girl in Florida has been told she cannot have an abortion because she lacks the maturity to make such a decision."

5 Ways to Turn Defeat Into Victory

Sat Nov 06, 2004 at 08:16:56 PM PDT

Okay, we've had our noses bloodied. The Democrats have learned a lesson, but it's not what most people think. George W. Bush's win was a triumph of style over substance. Debates didn't matter. The economy didn't matter. Record budget deficits didn't matter. Lying about going to war didn't matter. Osama bin Laden going from "dead or alive" status to persona non grata to Bush campaign commercial didn't matter. No, this was about something else.
