David Duke: Still Nuts

Wed Dec 13, 2006 at 03:36:34 PM PDT

David Duke was on The Situation Room just a bit ago to discuss the recent Holocaust Global Vision conference (aka, Holocaust Deniers United) and the Israel / Palestinian conflict.

Hilarity ensues!

In confronting Wolf Blitzer, Duke said:

DUKE:  But you know something?  You can't handle me, and you can't handle the truth, and the fact is, you are an agent of Zionism.  You work for AIPAC...

GA: Votes To Sell?

Sun Nov 27, 2005 at 08:28:20 AM PDT

A brief history for the uninformed.  Earlier this year the Georgia legislature passed the notorious voter ID law, which earned Georgia the distinction of having the strictest voting law in the country.  Woo!  We're #1!  In late October, the 11th Circuit upheld an injunction preventing the law from going into effect for the November elections.

Have You All Forgotten What Today Is?

Mon Apr 04, 2005 at 05:08:18 PM PDT

Today is the 37th anniversary of Martin Luther King's death. And even though his gravesite is just a few miles from the Atlanta Journal Constitution's offices, they couldn't find the space to include a mention in their paper. Disgraceful. What is also disagraceful is that this man, this leader who changed history does not have a memorial in Washington, DC. Help build the dream.

"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

In Need Of A Good Stylist

Sat Mar 26, 2005 at 04:37:49 PM PDT

Now that Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are divorcing, I need a new haircut. Does anyone know of a good stylist in Atlanta?

Maine: Gay Rights v. Abortion Rights

Fri Mar 04, 2005 at 12:00:25 PM PDT

When I first heard about this story, I thought it was too unbelievable to be true.

Maine State Representative Brian Duprey is the sponsor of legislation entitled, "An Act To Protect Homosexuals from Discrimination"  Sounds good enough.

Dean v. Perle Open Thread

Sat Feb 19, 2005 at 05:13:20 PM PDT

As some of you may or may not know, Howard Dean and Richard Perle are debating right now on CSPAN.

Topic:  American Foreign Policy after September 11th.

I think this is an excellent way for Dean to show that the Democrats do know a little something about foreign policy.  Interestingly, in his opening remarks Perle described himself as a Scoop Jackson Democrats.  You guys can use this as an open thread to discuss the debate.

International News Round-Up

Yes Virginia, it is true.

Here's a small round-up of news from around the world.  Thanks you BBC World Edition.

Making Reckless Sex a Crime

Wed Feb 16, 2005 at 01:21:03 PM PDT

In an upcoming article in the Chicago Law Review, the authors propose making it a crime to engage in sex without a condom.  From the abstract (pdf):

This article attempts to make progress on both the problems of sexually transmitted diseases and acquaintance rape by proposing a new crime of reckless sexual conduct.  A defendant would be guilty of reckless sexual conduct if, in a first sexual encounter with another particular person, the defendant had sexual intercourse without using a condom.

More on the flip.

ChoicePoint and Privacy Concerns

Tue Feb 15, 2005 at 05:43:35 PM PDT

Haven't heard of ChoicePoint?  My friend, where have you been?  Here's the down and dirty version from Greg Palast for the uninitiated:
Early in the year, the company, ChoicePoint, gave Florida officials a list with the names of 8,000 ex-felons to "scrub" from their list of voters.

But it turns out none on the list were guilty of felonies, only misdemeanors. The company acknowledged the error, and blamed it on the original source of the list -- the state of Texas.

Ah yes, now you remember.  dKospedia also has an excellent entry on the company.  But what does this have to do with 2005?

dKos Blogs - Alphabetized by State

Sun Jan 16, 2005 at 10:13:15 AM PDT

Update [2005-1-28 16:38:52 by JenAtlanta]: I've emailed the final list to Kos.

Yesterday, I posted a diary in which I attempted to update the dKos reader blogs page.

A few of you mentioned that it would be great if the blogs could be categorized by state.  Uh huh.  You people are never satisfied!  So this morning, I separated the blogs by state.  If I couldn't find your location, I listed you as homeless.  I listed the blogs with multiple authors under various.

If you want your blog listed or object to your category, lemme know.

dKos Reader Blogs Updated

Sat Jan 15, 2005 at 10:20:54 AM PDT

There have been several diaries that have attempted to update folkbum's compilation of dKos reader blogs; however, none of these diaries have been successful at actually compiling all the diaries into one useful HTML copy and paste nugget.

Because I am a sadist and have nothing better to do on this cold Saturday afternoon, I'll attempt to do so.

DNC Caucus Meeting on CSPAN

Sun Jan 09, 2005 at 03:15:44 PM PDT

CSPAN is currently airing the DNC Southern Caucus meeting.  All of the candidates have already given their opening remarks.  Nothing too remarkable.

Roemer said he wouldn't move the party further to the right, nor further to the left.  Fowler attempted to demonstrate his knowledge of the South by referencing collard greens / cornbread and the "redneck rivera"

First question (some guy from Michigan), why did we lose the Presidential race?

Roemer:  First, national security.  Second, values.

Dean:  We lost on national security because we let the President FRAME the issues.  And, we didn't do a good job letting people know where we stood.

I'll continue to update this thread both in the diary and in the comments.

MBNA Cancellation

Wed Dec 01, 2004 at 11:33:40 AM PDT

In the Fall of 1998, I entered the University of Georgia as a freshman.  Like most big universities, MBNA sets up shop outside home football games trying to convince college students that they just HAVE TO HAVE their college's credit card.  And really, how could I resist the bright red credit card with a black Georgia G on it?  And of course, I got a free towel with my application.

Canada & Jesusland - Bridging the Gap

Tue Nov 23, 2004 at 03:47:05 PM PDT

Screw SorryEverybody.com -- Tonight I apologized in person to our Northern neighbors.

In preparation for the holidays, tonight I started lining my front windows with white lights.  As I'm doing so, I notice there are four people standing at the edge of my front yard.  Bailey, my dog, is eying them suspiciously and growling.

I stop staring for a moment and concentrate on ripping the duct tape (I have 5 pairs of scissors and can't find a one).  Then, there's a knock on my door.

2008 Presidential Race

Tue Nov 16, 2004 at 12:29:42 PM PDT

I'm really starting to hate all these "[Insert person here] for 2008" diaries.  But since every one is obsessed with being the first person to name a possible candidate, I'd like to do something different.

Here is my list of people who should not be the Democratic nominee:

More CNN Bias: Contact Now!

Thu Oct 28, 2004 at 02:14:13 PM PDT

I just don't know if I can take it anymore. CNN's blatant conservative bias sometimes makes me want to throw my TV out the window, but this time.. I may throw my laptop.

This is from the front page of the Election Page.

Photo below the fold.

I'm adding this line since the Diary God hates me.

Upcoming Election Protection -- Georgia!

Wed Sep 29, 2004 at 01:14:48 PM PDT

Election Protection 2004 is holding another training session October 14th at 6pm.  It's a great opportunity to not only learn more about election law here in Georgia, but to sign up and make a difference.  Because I'm a masochist, I've signed up to be a poll monitor during the 6:30 am shift, BUT there after afternoon and evening slots available too.

Bush on O'Reilly Right Now

Tue Sep 28, 2004 at 05:14:40 PM PDT

And of course, O'Reilly is giving him softballs.  Even though FNC is dirty, I recommend flipping over and watching the interview.  I actually think Bush is doing rather well, in his demeanor and forming coherent strings of sentences.

There wasn't an open thread, so you can talk about the interview here.
