Why Would Clinton and Obama Appear on WWE Raw?

Mon Apr 21, 2008 at 06:32:51 PM PDT

I was just watching WWE Raw, and Hilary Clinton addressed the crowd via a taped message!  I was shocked, they have been promoting appearances by Clinton and Obama for the past few weeks to be aired today, but I assumed it was a typical gimmick, where they'd have lookalikes get in a humorous brawl or something.  In addition, they announced McCain will be appearing.

As of this posting, only Clinton has addressed the crowd, but I imagine the other two are forthcoming.  The implications of having major candidates appear on a wrestling show are numerous and complicated.

Friday Late Night Drinking Thread

Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 08:04:37 PM PDT

LIVE FROM SKIDROW! Hey there, welcome to the first Friday Late Night Drinking Thread.  I thought I'd post a nice hangout for the Friday night Kossacks who enjoy a drink during their Daily Kos blogging.  I've wondered if Bill in Portland Maine really has a rum and coke on Fridays or any alcoholic beverage, I'll ask on his thread and get back to you if I find out.   The word is still out on whether the claim that Bacardi and Coke make that they get the job done is true.

BREAKING: Dennis Hastert to Announce Retirement

Tue Aug 14, 2007 at 03:20:50 PM PDT

Dennis Hastert, the former Republican Speaker of the House, will not be seeking another term in Congress.

Rep. Dennis Hastert of Illinois, who served as speaker of the House longer than any Republican in history, intends to retire next year at the end of his current term, party officials said Tuesday.

A formal announcement is planned for Friday.

Hastert's planned retirement is likely to set off a lively scramble between the two political parties for a House seat that he has held easily since 1986.

Gerald Ford Dead at 93

Tue Dec 26, 2006 at 08:53:59 PM PDT

Former President Gerald Ford has just died at age 93.  I just saw on NBC news special report.  I am not sure if anyone has yet posted on this.

Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. (July 14, 1913 — December 26, 2006) was the 38th (1974–1977) President of the United States. Ford also served as the 40th (1973–1974) Vice President. He was the first person appointed to the Vice-Presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment, and upon succession to the presidency became the first (and to date, only) president in U.S. history to fill that office without having been elected either President or Vice-President. He is also the longest-lived United States president ever, having surpassed Ronald Reagan's record on November 12, 2006.

May President Ford rest in peace and prayers to his family.

Bush disappointed at Republicans' losses (FREAK OUT!)

Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 11:46:53 PM PDT

"He'll start by congratulating the winners and extend a hand for bipartisan cooperation to work on the issues facing our country. The elections are over but the issues still remain," said White House counselor Dan Bartlett.

Yes, Shrub will play ball once his hand has been forced.

Conservative Democrat Matheson Calls for Rumsfeld Resignation

Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 05:55:44 PM PDT

Jim Matheson, the Democratic representative from Utah's 2nd District, has called for Donald Rumsfeld's resignation.

"Look, I'm ready to see him go," Matheson said Wednesday during a taped debate on KTVX with Republican challenger State Rep. LaVar Christensen.

While multiple Democrats called for Rumsfeld's resignation earlier this fall, Matheson resisted. Utah is a heavily Republican state where support for President Bush and the war in Iraq runs high.

Matheson's district went for Bush by a whopping 35% in 2004, Bush won there 66%-31% over John Kerry.  I believe if Matheson is ready to come out and say this right before an election, he must be very confident in victory and the unpopularity of Rumsfeld.

BREAKING: Weldon Under FBI Investigation

Sat Oct 14, 2006 at 05:21:31 PM PDT

Curt Weldon will be investigated on corruption by the FBI.
WASHINGTON - The
FBI is investigating whether Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., used his influence to secure lobbying and consulting contracts for his daughter, two people familiar with the inquiry said Saturday.    The inquiry focuses on lobbying contracts worth $1 million that Weldon's daughter, Karen Weldon, obtained from foreign clients and whether they were assisted by the congressman, they said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidentiality of the criminal investigation.
