The TN Human Rights Commission is "...charged with preventing and eradicating discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing." Robin Smith, Chair of the TN GOP seems to believe that discrimination outside those parameters is acceptable.
Today, March 8, is International Women's Day. We are steeped in politics here, but I didn't want to let the day go by without some mention of the occasion.
He also says that "the Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation." Has the U.S. also declared English as the Official Language? Have I missed something??!!
Here in the Central Time Zone, it is just past midnight, August 26th. Eighty-seven years ago today -- August 26, 1920 -- the U.S. Constitution was amended for the 19th time. The Susan B. Anthony Amendment added these words to the Constitution:
It's been a loooong time since I've posted a diary. No time. Too much day job work to do. No time. But, I thought this was too important not to pass on, so I'm taking the time to post this diary.
I do not claim to be an expert or an analyst. I received this information from the Center for American Progress, didn't see a diary about it, so...
So, I was sitting in front of the TV last night, having dinner with my family (the dining room table is COVERED with production debris from our most recent show), slightly sleep deprived and malnourished from HELL WEEK, and trying to recover. There, in place of my favorite Monday night show, was the Golden Globe Awards show. Watching all those highly paid actors and film folk, eating their high-priced meals in their designer clothes was a bit like stepping into an alternate universe. You see, I've been working for many weeks with actors who make only a tiny portion of what they're worth -- no designer clothes for these folks! But we are all working to spread a message we believe in. Have I piqued your interest? Follow me...
Well, heck -- I thought the problem was that too many people in the U.S.(12.5%) live below the (artificially determined) poverty line. Roberts, however, believes that the true injustice in America is that...well, jump with me to find out what Roberts thinks. Ready? Set? JUMP!!
I'm sure most of you have heard about this already -- you may even have gotten the action alert to which this diary refers. But have you done anything about it? Here is something that will require only a moment your time. More below the fold...
I hate to break it to all you folks who live outside the state and are having fun Monday morning quarterbacking (or whatever the day after a football game is) but the reason he lost is because there are more repug voters in TN than Dems. Sad, but true.
After a morning of door-to-door canvassing in Middle Tennessee (where we met many Ford supporters), my husband and I decided not to face the crowd at Vandy for the final debate, but to instead watch it on TV. IT WAS BRILLIANT!
Early voting started yesterday (10/18) here in Tennessee, where the U.S. Senate race is arguably the most hotly contested Senate race in the country. Any poll on any given day shows the candidates barely a hair's breadth apart -- and the difference is usually well within the margin of error.
The headline reads: McCain: Clinton's North Korea policy 'a failure.' Let's see, what else can the repugs blame on the Democrats and Clinton? Oh, I know -- the E-coli contamination of spinach and now, possibly lettuce!! Yes -- of course -- it's the Democrats', particularly former president Clinton's, failed agriculture policies that were responsible for that. How could I have been so blind?
"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."
OK -- I made that up. But it got your attention. :) Here's my point: We all know about the big name Dem candidates who are making the headlines: Lamont, Tester, Busby (to name the top 3 on the ActBlue Netroots Candidates list). But what about all those brave, struggling Democrats who are trying to fund their campaigns to unseat repugs in their state legislatures? These candidates are often being overlooked even by their own state parties -- state parties that are spending their resources trying to get those big name Dem candidates elected to the U.S. Congress.
GOP (that stands for Gang Of Plunderers, according to my husband) candidates grow more repugnant and deceptive by the minute! Read on to see what's going on in TN Senate District 17.
I received an email today from a fellow pet lover who belongs to an email group that describes itself as
a group of dedicated individuals who are known in their communities for helping animals in need. This group is for dogs and cats needing a permanent home. Our members are active dog & cat rescuers...
Seems like anyone belonging to this group would denounce Frist's activities as a med student, right? Read on.
I was watching the Tonight Show a little while ago, when Jay Leno announced his guests for the Wednesday night. When he said the name "Ann Coulter," my stomach tightened -- and a very audible, collective BOO rose from the audience!
