This is how they do it!!! (with poll)
Thu Nov 17, 2005 at 07:55:09 AM PDT
Ok so I am sitting in a class right now at the Catholic University of America (I conveniently have my computer with me) and I am listening to my Professor ramble on in my class politics of the 1960s... Here is what is interesting... my professor just so happens to be a senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation (
VOMIT!!!)... and I have figured out exactly how they do it...
In this "great class" focussed on the politics of the 1960s I just spent 30 minutes listening to my professor spout off talkign points about Bush and how he is bouncing back and how he has stimulated the economy etc etc etc...
I never realized how blatant they are about passing their talking points down...

I am opening up the floor to the dKos Community to offer opinions on what they think would be a good topic to follow...
Key to Future Electoral Succces: Young Voters!
Thu Jun 23, 2005 at 08:26:39 AM PDT
It started as an independent study to kill some "easy" credits and score an "easy" A in the spring semeter... 120 pages later... I have become convinced that Young voters are a vital group that has been continually ignored by both parties (give or take some minor and ineffective pandering).
The 2004 election, was a decent step towards future youth turnout...
Youth turnout was up however not enough to make an impact on the electorate... remaining at 17% for the second consecutive cycle...

The Republican hypocrasy: States' Rights?
Mon Jun 06, 2005 at 02:30:08 PM PDT
The
Washington Post reports a glaring hypocracy in the tradtional Republican argument of States' Rights:
In a 6-3 decision, [Supreme Court]agreed with the Bush administration that the regulation of controlled substances, including marijuana, is the province of Congress without exception.

Safe, Legal and Rare
Tue May 31, 2005 at 08:46:10 AM PDT
A little bit of sanity from a group of DEmocrats that is usually "over the top". About a month ago the Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) announced its
95-10 plan.
It would help work towards the Democratic goal of making abortions "safe legal and rare." without endangering a woman's choice on healthcare. This is by far the most comprehensive effort by Democrats and DFLA specificaly to actually make progress on the life issue. It blends economic and health related policy from funding WIC programs to avoiding unwanted pregnancies.
Here is a brief summary:
*update abortion data
*change health care laws making prgnancy a preexisting condition
*take care of our woman and children by:
*funding WIC
*increasing healthcare to single parents
*provide counseling to pregnant woman
*make adoption tax credit permanant (encouraging woman to choose adoption over abortion)
*Include contraception coverage to insurance
*Talk about avoiding pregnacy in age appropriate sex-ed

Newsweek Story Proven True
Wed May 25, 2005 at 01:28:53 PM PDT
The
Washington Post is reporting that FBI documents prove truth in the recently retracted Newsweek story of Koran abuse.
Numerous detainees at the Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba told FBI interrogators that guards had mistreated copies of the Koran, including one who said in 2002 that guards "flushed a Koran in the toilet," according to new FBI documents released today.
It appears that the White House has a little explaining to do after blaming Newsweek for poor journalism. I guess Newsweek should have stood firm on its reporting.

The Rhetoric of "Pro-Life" Republicans
Wed May 25, 2005 at 09:52:21 AM PDT
There appears to be a
pretty lengthy discussion of "pro-lifers" both Democrats and Republicans on MyDD. And it brings to mind the recent discussion of our party being based on single issues Kos has been posting on recently.
I'm going to say it now... throw all the rotten vegetables you want but it's true.... I am a "pro-life" Democrat... and proud of it. I have grown up believing that everyone has a right to life and that life begins at conception.
Here is what it really means to be pro-life, to support every thing that the Democratic Party stands for...
