Breaking! KBH - Hutchison R-TX - "may" Retire Early. Will NOT Run for Senate in 2012

Mon Oct 15, 2007 at 06:19:36 PM PDT

According to a story just posted on the Channel 11 website in Dallas Tx:

http://cbs11tv.com/...

(AP) WASHINGTON Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison told a Texas magazine she will not seek re-election after this term and may leave the Senate as early as 2009, according to excerpts published on the magazine's Web blog on Monday.

She says she will not run to re-up in 2012 and "may" leave in 2009.

Home Depot sez opposing O'Reilly stops Environmental Moves.

Sun Jul 29, 2007 at 10:45:13 AM PDT

It's simple really.  Support Bill O'Reilly or you take our minds off being an Environmentally Conscious company.

Wait!  What?

Yes, it is true. Home Depot cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. The whole company focus must be shifted between Bill O'Reilly opponents or environmentalism.  And, they value environmentalism so much, Home Depot wants us to ignore O'LIEly's anti-environmental rants so that Home Depot can get on with even more great environmental progress!

How many carrier groups in the Middle East?

Thu Jan 11, 2007 at 11:00:58 PM PDT

With the announcement - initially denied - that the USS John C. Stennis would be deployed to the Persian Gulf, the US will effectively have at least two carriers in the oil-rich region within a few weeks.  What does this mean?

In November 2006, the USS Stennis participated in a joint exercise off the coast of southern California with the USS Ronald Reagan, forming Carrier Task Force (CTF) 150.
What does that mean?

http://www.globalsecurity.org/...

Carrier Task Force (CTF) 150
The USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Carrier Strike Group (JCSSG) combined forces with the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) Carrier Strike Group for its Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX) off the coast of Southern California to form Carrier Task Force (CTF) 150, 12-16 November 2006. JTFEX is the final phase before JCSSG is certified by Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet as "deployment ready."

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Or oil in Cleveland?

Yet ANOTHER Incompetent Crony! (AF JAG Commandant: disbarred)

Sat Dec 09, 2006 at 10:22:04 PM PDT

You've seen them all, one after another:  Chertoff "Getcher One Quart Plastic Bags Out" Sec of 'Homeland' Security; Brown "Doin a heckuva job, Brownie"; Cheney (who can say more?); Rumsfeld (Can't figure out where to contact reality); Condi (Aren't these nice shoes?) Rice...

Just one after another after another after another of crooked, incompetent, do nothing, idealogical morons and Bush-worshipping blistering idiots.  What can one more mean? Nothing, right?

Ever heard of Col. Michael D. Murphy?

Tight Race Needs YOUR Help - KANSAS 02 (w Poll!)

Sat Nov 04, 2006 at 08:15:27 PM PDT

Folks, I don't have a regular following. I mostly post comments on KOS, rather than diaries. Kos helps me find the candidates who I can support nationally, because I cannot make much difference in Washington from this district in Texas.

Please don't hold that against me as I post a rare diary asking for help in a tight, tight race that WE CAN SWING!

KS-02, held by Jim Ryun, former track star and now born-again ultra conservative, is truly in play.  Various election watch groups have moved it from Republican Safe to "Leans Republican."

Democrat Nancy Boyda can WIN this race!  Let's help her out with donations and volunteering!

Information LOCKDOWN! On Attorneys General?

Thu Jun 15, 2006 at 01:03:45 PM PDT

We've all read about the NSA collection of data from several national phone companies. The tag "NSA" brings up 1599 diaries!

Now, the Bush administration is going another step further:  The Gonzo Justice Department does not believe even a state attorney general needs to know whether the phone companies complied with the NSA's requests. A small article in the NY Times discloses:

American Torture Chamber - Yet another Bush Administration Atrocity

Sat Mar 18, 2006 at 03:41:59 PM PDT

Today's NY Times covers a unit dedicated to torturing prisoners captured by American forces. As we learned from other diaries, Special Operations Forces are being distributed  among US Embassies around the world, supplanting or replacing CIA ("civilian" operatives, more or less) with Cheney/Rumsfeld-style military rough guys.

Bush Administration Continues Assault on Lawful Society

Sun Jan 08, 2006 at 10:12:42 PM PDT

A professor from Syracuse University filed papers in US District Court last week, contending that the Bush Administration stopped complying with a court order directed at the IRS since 1976.  The court order required the IRS to disclose detailed tax enforcement data. You know, the kind of data that tells the public whether the IRS is going after more poor people or more rich people.

Bush tried to block NY Times Story

Wed Dec 21, 2005 at 12:07:58 PM PDT

Bush's Snoopgate
The president was so desperate to kill The New York Times' eavesdropping story, he summoned the paper's editor and publisher to the Oval Office. But it wasn't just out of concern about national security.

Jonathan Alter's Dec 19th Newsweek article describes the White House's attempts - and Bush's personal intervention - to try to stop the publication of his illegal spying offenses.

Culture of Life: Pull the plug on conscious patients - W's law.

Wed Dec 14, 2005 at 12:19:30 PM PDT

No one here can forget the spectacle made over the death of Terri Schiavo, whose brain had died long, long ago.  But in Texas, the law George W. Bush signed as governor allows doctors to inform the family that further treatment is hopeless (and costly) and Pull the Plug.  Literally.

In the latest case to escape the Culture of Life warriors, Tirhas Habtegiris, a young woman and legal immigrant from Africa, was CONSCIOUS and responsive when removed from a respirator and allowed to die.

Tortured Texas POW - now US Rep - OKs Torture? What Fresh Hell is THIS?

Tue Dec 06, 2005 at 08:23:47 PM PDT

US Rep Sam Johnson, (R-TX) Plano, wants John McCain's torture ban to go up in smoke:  LINK

With the moral authority of a former prisoner of war, Sen. John McCain is pushing to ban torture. Now, one of his former cellmates in the Hanoi Hilton, Rep. Sam Johnson of Plano - whose mangled hand gives testament to the horrors he endured after being shot down in Vietnam - is working to block the measure.

Mr. Johnson has circulated a letter to colleagues arguing that the McCain proposal, which sailed through the Senate, 90-9, would needlessly hamper counter-terrorism efforts...

What kind of people are these?  I mean... "Yes, let's use torture. We have to keep our options open."  ?  That is the depth to which the United States has fallen?  Do we have no moral courage? Is there nothing to separate us from "the terrorists"?

Clueless First Lady Halts Victims' Medical Treatment

Wed Sep 28, 2005 at 12:22:53 PM PDT

Sure, there is a diary about Laura Bush grinning for the Extreme Home Makeover Show, but nowhere is mentioned the actual effect this STUPID Photo-Op had on Hurricane Victims: Her appearance SHUT DOWN a free medical clinic providing care for people who have been ignored for days and weeks by her husband's incompetent administration.

Before Mrs. Bush entered the community center where the show was filming, a director shooed away both victims and volunteers from the doorway, instructing them on how to react as her entourage entered.

"Act surprised!" he said above the din.

A clinic offering free treatment and medicine at the community center had to shut down...

Gay Republicans Support the War {?}

There's lots more, but you have to JUMP for it:

The LIES of Bush

Sat Sep 17, 2005 at 10:52:45 AM PDT

If his mouth is moving, he is lying:

This little tidbit hidden away on page 25A of the print edition of today's (09/17/05) Dallas Morning News:

Military's Orders to Move Delayed

WASHINGTON - Two days after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, President Bush announced a massive federal rescue and relief effort. But orders to move didn't reach key active military units for another three days.

How long did it take our troops to arrive once the order was given?  After the jump.....

BREAKING: King Fahd of Saudi Arabia Dies

Mon Aug 01, 2005 at 12:31:11 AM PDT

Saudi King Fahd Dies in Riyadh Hospital

Will all hell break loose in the Middle East? Is the (final) struggle for Saudi rule already settled?

We will all find out in coming days. How this will affect world politics, energy supplies, terrorist attacks.... remains to be seen.

Wilson's Attorney Smacks Down Dallas Morning News

Thu Jul 21, 2005 at 11:53:02 AM PDT

In the Wednesday, July 20, 2005 edition of the Dallas Morning News, our local sages printed an absolutely odious editorial. So many mis-statements of facts were made that the copy seems to have come directly from the RNC:

"...no evidence has emerged that Mr. Rove committed a criminal offense by warning journalists of the potentially nepotistic role CIA employee Valerie Plame played in recommending her husband, Bush critic Joseph Wilson, to head a trip to Niger...

This sorry apology piece for Karl Rove is inaccurate all the way through. But it gets worse.
