The cave? Think allegorical Plato. I'm Midwestern bred. Been around, now doing that in San Fran and L.A. I'd visit the family more if people out there were more like people out here. They can be. I, flogger-blogger, believe.

The One Mexican NOT trying to bail

Wed Jul 04, 2007 at 12:24:00 PM PDT

Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim is now the new sheriff in town.

But, this isn't about Slim or Gates or even the cattle call list of shameless hoarders they're competing for pole position on.

It's about how in the hell a country that borders us - which should be our strongest ally - can house someone that rich and yet have a populace who live on $5 a day.  It's about how in the hell all we can think to do is treat it like it's a disease we might catch instead of like a neighbor we can help.

(more how the hell and less how on the big page)

ernie fletcher wishes it was a grand ol' jury

Sat Feb 04, 2006 at 04:23:27 AM PDT

and apparently so does his staff

the embattled kentucky good ol' boy gubna' ernie fletcher is not having a good year so far in aught-six either. you'll remember that late last year he was wrapped up in a scandal involving vicious partisan firing practices of state employees.  fletcher had promised to clean house, but then went and pardoned his director of personnel and efficiency, basil turbyfill, and twelve other administration officials after they were all indicted on charges of personnel law violations.  well, it turns out that the wildcat poster boy for the culture of corruption may have to look into the possibility of pardoning his own pasty butt.

Chris Matthews' demonic breath melts microphone cover!

Fri Jan 20, 2006 at 10:26:55 AM PDT

Chris Wallace on FOX this morning, while commenting about Osama Bin Laden's recent audio taped threat of escalation and subsequent offer of a truce with US forces, declared that "it is hard to ascribe logic to the actions of a madman."

It was the closest I've ever been to the magical GOP talking point RSS feed and I could actually smell the rotting breath of the pot calling the kettle black.  Words like this just highlight the fact that these devils cannot make themselves seem less insane unless they can create and promote something even more insane.  As if there were a pendulum of insanity that they could influence.

photographic oversight suppressed

Tue Sep 06, 2005 at 06:53:07 PM PDT

police and national guard have been suppressing the media, beating those who have recorded their violent response to disorder in NOLA, according to news photographer magazine. this would have been unbelievable until this unbridled gop regime made it par for the course. their fear of retaliation has prompted NBC to hire armed security for its teams.

NBC News has reportedly hired a private security firm whose officers are former soldiers or police, and who are licensed to carry weapons and trained to protect news crews as they do their jobs, to protect their staff members in the Gulf Coast region as they report the hurricane aftermath story.

i don't mean to imply that these measures were put into place solely to protect the teams from police and national guard, because the real danger from armed groups of criminals was undoubtedly great. however - and this is a monumental however - the stories of retaliation from official authority is insane, nevertheless, and begs answers. disturbing examples below the fold:

hard to hold on to a greased pig.

Mon Sep 05, 2005 at 04:46:22 AM PDT

the republican regime is dealing with their own disaster parallel to katrina. faced with a $10.5 billion emergency aid package for the gulf coast, it's getting painfully difficult for them to keep stirring up their own toxic sludge of slash and burn economic policy. next on the list, the permanent repeal of the estate tax. hard to justify fortifying the coffers of the super rich when the economy is bankrupt and you were just forced to shell out the big bucks for the "compassionate capitalist" ruse.

but, they're trying. roy blunt (R, MO) fumbled through his feeble justification:

Asked at a news conference whether tax cuts are wise when the government is pouring billions of dollars into emergency aid, Blunt replied: "I think we need to look at what we need to do to be sure that the economy isn't affected more than it needs to. . . . We'll be thinking about that."

they'll be thinking. good one. i know he didn't mean they'd be thinking about the gulf coast economy.
