Lots of malicious GOP crossover at my polling place!

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 01:24:16 PM PDT

I was the Election Judge for the Dem side for 4 Pcts in the N. Dallas suburbs.  We voted ~750 people on 2 machines ! I know for certain many of my GOP neighbors were voting with a gleam in their eye and sniping/whispering that they were "spoiling" our results.  I didn't know what they were up to until this AM when I saw the results. There was clearly was enough GOP HRC crossover to affect the primary count. I ball park estimate 50 folks out of the total were there for this reason.  There was no exit polling and there is no way to know with any accuracy.

This is anecdotal and as someone with research experience I am aware my opinion is useless, and yet I feel the need to express it anyway.

Patriotism vs. Nationalism

Mon Feb 25, 2008 at 09:07:31 AM PDT

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines patriotism as: love for or devotion to one's country.
It defines nationalism as: loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups.

These two definitions on the surface are very much alike, but modern usage I think does reflect a difference I would like to expound upon.

Obama Leads in TX by 14% w/ M.E. 3%

Sat Feb 23, 2008 at 03:31:51 PM PDT

Just ran into a new poll at  Vote From Abroad showing Obama ahead in TX by 14!

The source article is HERE!

Now being a Pct Chair here in TX I must tell you that broad general polls of this nature mean nearly nothing, but this trend is widening.

More specifically I would like to see State Senatorial District estimations of likely delegate allocations and I have not found a poll that gets that detailed.

Obama's first 100 days!

Fri Feb 22, 2008 at 02:16:13 PM PDT

Here are some joint suggestions from myself and (Kossack lurker TBA).  It's time to get serious about what a Pres. Obama administration should be asking of the new veto-proof Congress.  We feel that some of the Foreign Affairs issues are more amenable to immediate repair, being that they are so clear cut and fall to the Executive Branch to fix.  The domestic agenda will be far more difficult to pass quickly, but needs to begin with sharp and vivid distinctions between the Dem and Rep points so that these get completed in the 1st term.

Obama, Dallas, Reunion Arena, Wed 2/20, 10:30am!

Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 07:06:25 AM PDT

Program starts at Noon!  Not sure why this is not on the Obama Texas Web Page, but I just RSVP'd to the event after being invited by e-mail for being on the e-mail list.
Just letting everyone know, since it is seemingly not up yet on the Obama site. Sorry for the brevity- at work, gotta go.

Quirky Texas rule may decide whole race!

Tue Feb 12, 2008 at 07:43:32 AM PDT

Sorry to rehash this information but it's important and I'm trying to reach as many people as possible!

TEXAS is a 29% Caucus!!!!!

TEXANS! You get to have your vote heard TWICE. After you vote in the primary part, show up at your precinct convention @ 1915 (7:15 PM) after the polls close on Mar 4th and represent your candidate. These are usually held at the place where you voted but DOUBLE CHECK!!

67 of the 228 Texas delegates are allocated proportionally by preference acclamation at the county conventions (or senatorial district [SD] conventions for lower populated areas;

But you CANNOT be a county or SD delegate unless you attend the precinct convention FIRST. Anyone who signed in at the precinct convention can represent their candidate at county or SD, even if that means the whole electorate!

Huckabee's "Christian Nation" issue not front page?

Wed Jan 16, 2008 at 07:52:31 AM PDT

So Mike Huckabee is for tearing down the entire founding principle of separating church and state and the only thing I can find on it this morning is on Crooks and Liars (Huckabee is neither, but he is trying to bring us to the forefront of the 1800's).  I realize that the GOP race being a three way has everyone in a tizzy, but a frontrunner yesterday just called for the equivalent of 17th century English style religious wars to breakout in America as he suggests that his world view should be stamped onto the founding doucuments. Is no-one listening! I understand that this may be the last gasp for evangelicals in the GOP before breaking off into their own third fringe party, but it is frightening to think that the kind of rhetoric that passed over Gov. Huckabee's lips yesterday slipped by without much comment.  Is it because it was so out there it has no credence, or is it so mainstream that, of course we need to change the Constitution- let's have the fundamental Baptist God of fire and brimstone determine our Middle East Policy! WhooHoo!!  I'm at a loss, someone help me out here.

Priests Go to Jail, Bush & Cheney still free....

A Franciscan and a Jesuit were sentencedto 5 months Wed for 'trespassing' while attempting to deliver a letter to the commander at Ft Huachuca in AZ in protest to the alleged training of torture to governmental & military personnel there.

WTF?????

Why isn't Keith Olbermann all over this?

I really don't expect trad./corp media to give a rats ass, but this has got to get out!

No better example for: Why democracy ?....(quasi rant)

Thu Apr 06, 2006 at 10:33:04 PM PDT

than to watch the unravelling a near dictatorial American president. For the world to see on live TV the trial and punishment of this administration with W.easel and Darth Dick behind the defendants table along with Rummy, Wolfie, Condi and I'm afraid to even say Colin too would be a beacon to them that our system does self correct. What better way to show the planet that fighting for a nation and government that has its foundation in LAW and not in men than to put away the architects of this war and overall foreign policy who have murdered >100,000 civilians, >2300 servicemen, and physically wounded or psychologically traumatized millions, injuries to family dynamics that will continue for generations!

The Daily Kos first impression!!!

Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 08:47:29 PM PDT

Do we really want the third word to be read on this site to be an F- Bomb? If I were coming to see this site for the first time and saw that it would really turn me off.  Now having been here awhile I'm used to those being in the discussions, but for it to be there in a semi-permanent ad for the book might be a bit over the top. I completely agree with the content and the sentiment and even the wording were it to be inside a diary or comment- just not our regular face.    Just an observation!

Wed, Jan. 21, 2009, 8:30 AM; What now?

Fri Dec 09, 2005 at 12:35:36 PM PDT

Our sparkling new democratically elected Democratic President starts his/her new gig in earnest; where to begin?
How does one untie and unravel 8 years of wanton and willful undoing of our basic American foundations.
There are not 'country clean up services' to call.
There is only a trail of devastation and slime left behind by the stinky maggots that ransacked the place.....

Let 'em try to talk their way out of this one.....

Wed Nov 16, 2005 at 09:53:15 AM PDT

It appears from this AP article we (the american military as ordered by the people we sent to D.C. to lead us) admit to using chemical weapons in Iraq during the Fallujah offensive.  We are all complicit in allowing our elected representatives to fuck our country up this bad. It is squarely now in the lap of moderate GOP legislators to call the administration on their shit.

Religious Persecution a Texas Constitutional Amendment in this former slave state!

Texas Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment Backfires!

Mon Oct 24, 2005 at 06:03:33 AM PDT

Hey Kos, had this e-mail forwarded to me about the Nov ballot proposition in Texas to ban gay marriage. Made a few phone calls and found out the lawyer types think this is real. It appears it their rush to hate they wrote in poor verbage that would negate all marriage in the state.  My understanding of these amendment propositions is that once they leave the legislature, they are on the ballot, no takebacks. If it passes, and it really was miswritten, another proposition would need to be passed to kill the first, then a third would need to be offered if the right wanted to continue to write hate and discrimination into our governmental documents.  I sort of feel this is a moot point because this issue will go all the way to the SCOTUS and I doubt even a right leaning court would allow this sort of discrimination to fly. The e-mail as it was sent to me follows:

TX C10th ; Ted Ankrum could use some help.

Sat Jul 16, 2005 at 08:04:31 PM PDT

Ted Ankrum is running against an incumbent Michael McCaul (R) in the recently redistricted (by Delay thank you very much) TX 10th congressional district.  McCaul recently joined several other (R)'s to vote against increasing veterans benefits. Also a big fan of ditching the Estate Tax. He's related to some Clear Channel money so this race is important for two reasons. Ted Ankrum is very qualified and has a shot at turning this district blue. Also, if we can give McCaul a run for his money, literally, this dough will be tied up in efforts to keep his own seat rather than shuffling it off to other races like Sen, Kay B. Hutchison's or Gov. Rick Perry's. He could use around a dime from everyone here- that's like 6K right! It would really help. Check this guy out.
