McAuliffe = WATB

Tue May 13, 2008 at 11:12:16 AM PDT

OMFG. Check out Terry's latest.

"Clearly it has been a biased media, no question about it," McAuliffe said on Fox News. When asked how much of the mainstream media is "in the tank" for Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), who leads Clinton in the race for the Democratic nomination, McAuliffe estimated that about 90 percent of the media favor Obama.

"It is what it is. We’re not complaining," he stated. "We have to deal with the hand we’re dealt with."

Travel Overseas on Holiday? You are Suspect.

Sat May 10, 2008 at 06:38:50 PM PDT

Figuring the Bush (free beer) economic stimulus package was no more than a pittance considering what my family has spent on his damn war, we traveled overseas for the last few weeks and spend our bonus moola in the EU.

And what reward do I get for spreading the love?

Complete hassle to get back into the country.

Anyone else finding passport/border control a bit overbearing these days?

Albany Embraces Traffic

Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 09:45:25 AM PDT

Mayor Bloomberg's innovative plan to create a congestion pricing zone on private vehicles in NYC, which would have raised millions for public transit and reduced air pollution, (just like the successful program in London) died last night in Albany.

The non-vote after days of closed-door negotiations means the city will forfeit $354 million in federal money for kick-starting the initiative. The Legislature faced a Monday deadline to act on Bloomberg's proposal.

So who exactly did the passport snoops hired by Condi's State Department really work for?

Obama’s Call to Arms – Equal Funding for Public Schools

Wed Mar 19, 2008 at 03:26:44 PM PDT

In his speech last night on the racial divide in the USA, one important issue is not getting the attention is deserves today. That is inequality in our public school system.

Obama was quite clear about why one reason poverty still exists in the USA. Our educational system is still not equal or fair to poor people.

Excerpts from the speech...

A tale from Bushlandia

Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 09:52:26 AM PDT

When the history books are written about the Bush administration, one of the consistent themes will be "wrong priorities."

There are threats to America and then there are threats to the Bush administration.

Here are a few stories from today's news cycle that illustrate clearly what the Bush administration cares most about.

Monsanto Rushing GE Sugar to Market, Feds Sued

Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 01:20:57 PM PDT

Sugar is a huge market. Needless to say, the US consumes large quantities of sugar every day. Thus many of our obesity problems.

Nevertheless, it seems Monsanto is now out to get its grip firmly on sugar beets, where a large portion of US sugar comes from. And the Bush Administration is deregulating genetically engineered "Roundup Ready" sugar beets to speed along the process.

This despite the unknown health impacts, or contamination potential to neighboring conventional and organic crops.

Sugar beets FYI just love to spread their pollen around. They are sexy like that.

Stock Market in Freefall

Thu Jan 17, 2008 at 03:23:10 PM PDT

Gosh, anyone else around here worried about this?

http://www.marketwatch.com/...

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks sold off for a third straight day on Thursday, with the Dow sinking to a 10-month low in its worst day since Nov. 7, after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke spoke about the country's economic trouble and a regional measure of economic activity contracted.

Winger Media Attacks Obama's Christian Church

Thu Jan 10, 2008 at 12:20:59 PM PDT

The main insult, it seems, is that the senator's United Church of Christ in Chicago is unabashedly, pro-African.

Gee, I hope they don't find out about the Greek Orthodox folks down the street, and I certainly hope they don't dig into the cultural allegiance of my Irish-Catholic church.

What exactly are they saying? Who are these racist fucks?

Bhutto: Dems Console, Neocons see an Opening

Thu Dec 27, 2007 at 10:45:35 AM PDT

American politics would dearly love to take a holiday from history, just as it did in the 1990s. But our enemies are not going to allow us to do so. The murder of Bhutto moves foreign policy, the war on terror, and the threat of Islamofascism back into the center of the 2008 campaign. How candidates respond to it, and issues like it that will come up in the next 10 months, will determine whether they are fit for the presidency.

Bush to Arnold on Global Warming: Eat Shit

Wed Dec 19, 2007 at 04:18:02 PM PDT

Sorry for the drive-by but this is very big news released after hours by the EPA in an attempt to bury it.

The Bush administration said late on Wednesday it would deny California's application to set a strict vehicle emissions standard to fight global warming.

"It is my intent to deny the waiver," Stephen Johnson, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), said in a conference call with reporters.

Holy War in the GOP

Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 01:10:38 PM PDT

Fascinating analysis of the current Holy War going on inside the GOP over at NewsMax today.

If conservative Christians have helped elect GOP presidents in recent years they may be the undoing of the party this time around for the small fissures developing between the various religious blocs in the GOP are developing into seismic fractures.

Mike Huckabee’s question to a New York Times reporter, "don’t the Mormons believe that Jesus and Satan are brothers," could have critical ramifications in a close general election.

If Romney wins the nomination it only further advertises his faith to evangelical voters who are leery of Mormonism. If Huckabee wins the nomination it could mean a loss of Nevada and maybe even Arizona, key pieces in the electoral map, where Democrats have made inroads in recent elections and an infuriated segment of the Mormon Church, crucial in those states, may sit on their hands on Election Day.

Recycled Christmas: One Family's Revolution Against the Shopping Mall

Thu Nov 22, 2007 at 09:44:11 AM PDT

Sitting around the dinner table out at the farm last Thanksgiving, the subject of what to do about Christmas came up. How would we organize a family gathering now that we kids are grown and scattered across the state? Whose house would we use? How would we deal with the whole gift-giving thing?

Everyone seemed completely unenthusiastic about engaging in another orgy of shopping and crowds and waste. There was the sense of duty of course: to tradition, to the nation. The TV newscaster claimed that the very health of the US economy depended upon our generous holiday spending. Christmas consumerism is patriotic. Don't think about it too much, just shut up and shop.

Mon Nov 12, 2007 at 11:02:53 AM PDT

Gee, who knew the 10 million dirty-fucking hippies who marched worldwide in 2003 were right when they said Bush's attack on Iraq would be a war for oil?

Get Ready for First Bush Veto Override

Fri Nov 02, 2007 at 10:48:49 AM PDT

Bush vetoed the Water Resources Development Act today. This is one of those essential project bills in which almost every district gets some federal funding for needed projects.

Bush is about to have his ass handed to him.

The hissy-fit tactic will soon blow up in his face and the era of the lame duck will finally commence in earnest.
