Obama: You're on Notice!
Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 05:09:01 PM PDT
Not now, not yet.
But come November, all this love is going to turn tentative, and circumspect. We who support you so strongly against McCain will fight all-out through the election, when I fully expect to see you victorious.
I shall certainly party that day...But Wednesday A.M., it's time to be a skeptical American again.

UPDATE: Frontpagers will host the live blog. Thx. Go there...they should be posting new threads....
(I did this the other day, and it's no problem for me!)
It's already started, and I was disappointed by ABC's introductory nonsense recounting the Obama "elitst" meme again.
Here's your live-blog diary. Live streaming is available here:

Live Blog #5--Roundup Edition
Sun Apr 13, 2008 at 06:36:05 PM PDT
LIVE BLOG #5 from Messiah College [PA], it's Sunday Night w/ Hillary and Barack!!! The Compassion forum at Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania.
This is thread #5 of the forum. (This is #1, the Mothership)
Thanks, Slinkywink!!
It's concluded, and here's my recap:
Both Hillary and Barack did well: both spoke clearly and without sticking their feet in their mouths. Hillary spoke very well about faith, but also chose to use the occasion to call Obama some shit; Obama stuck to discussing the questions asked him. He solidly and ethically stood up for his faith, church, history, Islam, Christianity, and other faiths, the poor, and America.
It wasn't the sort of "debate" that has a winner. That said, America lost because a candidate forum on faith even took place.
Thanks to everybody for participating!

When my brother was born just before the Apollo landing on the moon, my parents held him up before the TV, so that he'd be able to say he witnessed something huge in history. I think today is a similarly signal event, but one that marks an even greater change for our nation.
Barack Obama is America's Candidate
Sat Mar 15, 2008 at 10:00:32 PM PDT
Short diary that I know will attract a bunch of self-righteous assholes...but I'm serious about Obama 08. A lot of you here are more serious about your complaints about Americans, America, and white people. I agree with most of those plaints, but I have embraced Barack Obama's message and am looking forward to the future now.
I also think that you have no reason whatsoever to believe Senator Obama shares your radical beliefs.
Clinton: Regrets Ferraro's Remarks UPDATED

Short FYI diary. The NY Post/Associated Press got a new statement from Hillary Clinton regarding Ferraro's race-baiting/white victimhood statements:

Clinton rejects re-vote in MI, FL
Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 05:56:08 PM PDT
I have been utterly confused for hours about what the Clinton campaign is saying about the proposed caucus in Michigan. I confess that I don't have much at all, but beg patience for my posting this diary.
NY Times: Clinton throws kitchen sink
Mon Feb 25, 2008 at 07:27:03 PM PDT
This is a very brief diary, but I wanted to get this new Times article out here.
http://www.nytimes.com/...
After struggling for months to dent Senator Barack Obama’s candidacy, the campaign of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is now unleashing what one Clinton aide called a "kitchen sink" fusillade against Mr. Obama, pursuing five lines of attack since Saturday in hopes of stopping his political momentum.
The article goes on to explain why Clinton has gone so negative in recent days after her last appearance with Obama during the debate.
What does the flag lapel pin mean to the wearer?
Sun Feb 24, 2008 at 05:59:55 PM PDT
Reading the diary about MSNBC and CNN harping over Obama's lack of a flag lapel pin today brought back to me a moment from last fall that I had completely forgotten about. This is just a personal anecdote, but tonight it's looming in my mind, full of significance about the following question:
What do the wearers of the flag lapel pins themselves think it signifies?
Enough with the Security BS
Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 04:51:06 PM PDT
There have been a number of very concerned diarists and commenters writing to express their disapproval of candidate security operations lately.
Others have offered advice to the government or the candidate--or the candidate's spouse--about how better to protect themselves.
I think these diaries and comments are:
- Completely ridicuous, having been written by people who know nothing at all about the issues involved in securing candidates' persons; and
- Stir-up hysterical notions about certain scenarios in order to exercise their dramatic urges: there is no legitimate reason for them to be posted at all; and
Hillary and Obama are not your Conscience
Mon Jan 28, 2008 at 07:56:27 PM PDT
People, the US Government does not exist as a kind of extra bank account for your particular problems; it is not the place you should think of when you're short on rent; it is not there to protect you from bad decisions. That is your conscience.
Congrats, Iraq! #1 Soccer Team!!! (updated)

Iraq wins Asia cup, and I'm so happy for the glimmer of joy it will no doubt give the Iraqi people.
Pardon Duke Cunningham
Thu Nov 16, 2006 at 12:38:19 PM PDT
Duke Cunningham should be freed, either by Presidential pardon, or by judicial review: he is not capable of understanding the charges against him, and was therefore improperly convicted.
This is not a snark diary--not completely, anyway [edited: this is pretty much a snark diary...sorry]--I really do think he might not be able to understand right and wrong.
[Edited again: Jesus, this bombed. Too soon? I kid. It's just not funny. I guess "Bush is a stupid" is funny, because he's not suffering from developmental disorders, yet acts really dumb.]
Gay Brooklynite killed
Fri Oct 13, 2006 at 06:07:21 PM PDT
This will be a brief note only, but I'd like more people to know about my neighbor, Michael J. Sandy, who died last night after being robbed and targeted for being gay. Although I live right across from his apartment, I did not know him by name at all, and I was astonished this morning to see flowers, candles and photographs piled up beneath the window across the street. I had, though, heard about Michael Sandy's case: I have been following the story this week, as it's been all over the local papers.
From what I understand, he met a guy and gave his email address. Later, he was invited to meet up for a party. When he arrived at the meet-up location, he was beaten and robbed. When he attempted to escape, he was hit by a car. Several days later, he died.
Clostridium Difficile
Fri Oct 06, 2006 at 06:43:33 PM PDT
I know that dKos is a political site, and I thought twice about adding this diary, but I really feel like I should spread this information anywhere I can.
"Clostridium difficile" is certainly not a phrase I had been familiar with. But after what has happened to my family, I'm getting to know it pretty well. "C-Diff", as it is commonly known, is a resistant and insidious bacterium which can only flourish in the context of a nearly antiseptic environment.
In fact, C-Diff wasn't a problem until the widespread use and overuse of antibiotics and cleaners. See, C-Diff is unable to cause the human organism problems unless most or all of the benign micro-organisms in our body have been killed-off by antibiotics. In other words, C-Diff can't kill unless you've been treated in a hospital by antibiotics to such an extent that your own body's micro-flora have been decimated.
WATB, FEAR and Faulkner
Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 08:11:40 PM PDT
William Faulkner, loathe him or love him, 56 years ago gave a speech that bears repeating today. Faulkner was already past his prime when he accepted the 1949 Nobel Prize for Literature, but he was well aware that the world, so soon after WWII, was entering a new period of FEAR. The word "terror" does not come up, but I think his meaning--that fear is what hurts us--is as relevant now as then.
Terrorism is a very real and dangerous phenomenon, and all nations are trying to suppress it; however, terrorism as a strategy only works if you're terrorized. Anyway, I only want to introduce the Faulkner speech. He's addressing other writers, but the same advice applies to us all: our problems, the ones we know we need to deal with, are submerged by the apparently unending exigencies of "terror."
So, if you'll forgive the lack of original content, here's the brief but magnificent speech.

La Marseillaise
Fri Jul 14, 2006 at 04:55:26 PM PDT
Vive La France! Vive La Liberte!
It's a violent and stunning song, but France has the best national anthem in the world. Remember the Bastille, and listen to what yearning for freedom sounds like.

Sing along with the lyrics below.
(B/t/w, I know this isn't a real diary, but I looked around for someone to post on Bastille Day and the Marseillaise...and , well, I didn't wan't it to go unnoted.)
Antisemitism
Sun Jul 02, 2006 at 09:17:30 PM PDT
Some here believe that Jews, by virtue of genes or family history, bear guilt for the sins of the modern state of Israel...
Please forgive the intro, but a few Kos readers apparently need it. *This is NOT a policy diary.* (Continued below)
