I am actually not an "Old Democrat" in terms of age but in beliefs. I am a 25 y/o gay male and former Republican. I became a Democrat when the GOP became dominated by the religious right and the likes of Tom Delay and George W Bush. I am from Ohio but I a
I am struck, once again, by the injustice of a nation that was "founded" on equality, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Bollocks.
This nation was founded by self-pretentious malcontents whose only concern was to preserve their own way of life, "outsiders" be damned.
I hate it. We protect the lives and rights and lifestyles of christians who have no concept of christ. We idolize celebrities that lack modesty and all forms of good sense, who think nothing of wiping cat feces across their friends' faces while they sleep- just for a lark- and yet we castigize the celebrities who use their voice to advertise and defend the platforms and needs of this country's underdogs.
It's Orwell's 1984, and everyone (the blind, sodden masses of the majority) willingly turns a blind eye to it all.
The Democratic Primary is fast approaching here in Georgia on July 20th and I am having a hard time trying to decide which candidate I should vote for. I have narrowed it down to three contenders. 1.)Congresswoman Denise Majette who would galvanize minority turnout in November which could help in two House races Ga-12 and GA-11. 2) Cliff Oxford a millionaire who could force the GOP to spend major money in Georgia. or 3) Mary Squires a state senator who has led the fight against the evil Hate Amendment and is running a true grassroots campaign. So what are your thoughts?
Something needs to be done about this. Carmike is headquartered here in my hometown of Columbus, Georgia and in today's paper on the front page the following article appeared...
May I suggest Rick Crawford in GA-11. This is a district drawn for a Democrat yet we narrowly got stuck with Phil Gingrey in the GOP tidal wave in Georgia 2002. Gingrey has raised a million but Crawford needs help. This seems perfect for dkos8. What seats do you guys think should make the cut?
Kos has said he will not be making CO-7 one of the dkos8 because the DCCC will put up enough money. So far though Beauprez has been raking in millions but Thomas is lagging behind. The same can be said about AZ-1 with Renzi vs Babbitt. Another way of looking at it Kos is that if we put money into these two perhaps the DCCC can spend elsewhere? I just don't want us to lose these two narrowly because we got outspent at the end. We have the better candidates they just need cash so here's the poll...and ask yourselves do you really want to put ALL your faith in the DCCC?
Bush and his entire administration are incompetent. They simply are not up to the job and the longer they stay the less safe we are as a nation. This is the message I see developing from the Democrats. First last week Pelosi opened the jar by calling Bush "incompetent" today Gore followed it up calling his whole Administration "incompetent" Is this the strategy? I think it is and its about damn time.
We don't hear much on the 2004 Governor's Races despite the fact that electing a Governor in a state can do wonders for the state party organization. They come in handy when redistricting comes up as well. So without further ado here is a rundown of the 2004 Governor Races...
Some say a Democratic majority in the House is out of reach this year yet we are only down what 12 seats? The GOP won 40+ seats in 1994 alone this IS doable if we get off our butts and MAKE it happen!
Rethug Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky recently said THIS about his Democratic opponent...
Bunning: "[Mongiardo] looks like one of Saddam Hussein's sons...before they were dead...and even dresses like them, too." (Cincinnati Post, 4/1/04)
After denying that he made comments to numerous reporters last week, a Bunning staffer finally issued a statement to journalists after learning that the story was going to press: "We're sorry if this joke, which got a lot of laughs, offended anyone."
U.S. Sen. Zell Miller is questioning the usefulness of a panel investigating the terrorist attacks of 2001, arguing its public quarrels with the Bush administration could "energize our enemies and demoralize our troops."
Miller, a Georgian who is the Senate's lone Democrat to endorse Bush for re-election, saved his most heated rhetoric for former Bush counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke. Clarke depicted Bush as obsessed with Iraq and slow to act against al-Qaida in a best-selling book, an interview on CBS' 60 Minutes and testimony before the Sept. 11 commission.
"The vindictive Clarke has now had his revenge, but what kind of hell has he, his CBS publisher, and his ax-to-grind advocates unleashed?" Miller said in a Senate floor speech Tuesday evening.
Miller, who has backed Bush on practically every major foreign and domestic initiative, said if there were intelligence breakdowns, Clarke was most to blame because he was in the "catbird seat" for a decade.
SOMEBODY PLEASE KICK THIS JACK ASS OUT OF THE PARTY!!!
I say let John McCain be the Vice-Presidential nominee. If you think about it McCain is the perfect choice! The Bush campaign is coming after Kerry on just a few things 1)He is a Massachusetts liberal 2) He is soft on defense and 3) He is a waffler. McCain is the ONLY pick which could negate all three of these charges. McCain is known as the "straight talker" no waffling there, who is ummm far from liberal and yes like Kerry he is a living HERO! McCain is a champion (for a Republican) on the enviorment and he OPPOSED the Bush tax cuts! McCain would sow up the red states of Arizona, New Hampshire for sure and I believe he would give Kerry the extra push he will need with independents to win FL, OH, MO, and maybe even some Southern states. Kerry/McCain wouldn't just beat Bush it would annilate him in a LANDSLIDE which would be priceless. Let McCain be VP, he is old and has that cancer problem by 2012 he ain't gonna feel like running himself I assure you or Kerry could replace him in 2008 with a Democrat like say...John Edwards :) who could be heir apparent. Kerry/McCain all the way!
The Georgia House narrowly rejected a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage Thursday, a surprise vote that derailed the same-sex marriage question that seemed almost certain to go to voters this fall.
Proponents of the ban fell just three votes short of clearing the final legislative hurdle. The Democrat controlled House voted 117-50 in favor of the marriage ban, short of the 120 votes needed to pass a consitutional amendment.
Rick Crawford is the Democratic candidate running against freshmen Republican Congressman Phil Gingrey an ardent Bush backer. The thing is GA-11 was drawn to be a Democratic leaning district and Gingrey won like a 4 point victory in the 2002 GOP tide. We need to win back this seat and Crawford is our shot. Check him out and help if you can!
I just met John Edwards at a campaign rally here in Columbus, Georgia. WOW this guy is really good in person. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand. I was a solid Kerry supporter but now I am offcially undecided with only a week to go...
