Let me start by saying that this probably won't be of too much interest to most people. I just wanted a place to collect my thoughts on my experience yesterday. To those of you still reading, first, a little bit about me: I'm the chairman of the Halfmoon, NY Democrats. We're a traditionally very Republican town in the northern suburbs of Albany, NY. I got involved with the local Dems a few years ago, and we're still trying to fill up the committee. Due to the lack of a strong Dem presence here, we were short on Election Inspectors, so I offered to help out. I took the day off, and ended up working as the only Dem inspector in my district, at a polling place with 4 districts.
I checked, but didn't see anything up for this fabulous video of Karl Rove making an ass out of himself that's floating around YouTube.
Check it out for yourself Here. Apologies for not knowing how to imbed YouTube vids. I know that ability was taken away during election season, but I thought it was back, yet I have no idea how to do it.
Edit:
Also apologies for a short diary. I just figured people should see this, and didn't see it anywhere in a search for Karl Rove.
After Dems swept their way through the state in November's election, the state's highest ranking Republican is now State Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno (he also happens to be my State Senator). Last night, Bruno held a press conference to announce that he's being investigated by the FBI for some of his "outside business interests". Much more below...
Edit: I've changed the title of this diary by popular demand, plus the fact that it really doesn't matter. It used to be "GOD-DAMNED MOTHER FUCKING.... DAMMIT!!" That being said, kindly in the future don't waste the time of both of us by bitching about my titles.
My friend (on his message board) just linked to a RedState post as poof that "The 2003 Tax Cuts were good for the country".
GHAAAAAAAAA! FUCKING HELL!!!
Help me out here people... the posts below the fold...
First the good news. Congressional Quarterly has upgraded the NY-20 race between Kirsten Gillibrand (D) and incumbent rubber stamp John Sweeney from "Leans Republican" to "No Clear Favorite". This is HUGE, and although I believe it may be a tad optimistic, will do wonders to further motivate those on the ground in this race.
This comes roughly a week after it was revealed that Sweeney was connected to disgraced former Congressman Mark Foley through the PROM committee (how cute...).
Holy Shit! Looks like the D-trip is finally coming through for Kirsten Gillibrand! According to Liz Benjamin on the Times Union blogs, they've dumped half a million dollars into ad buys for the final weeks of the campaign. While I imagine some of that money might be spent on the NY-21 race, it's fairly noncompetitive, and we'll retain that seat easily.
There's no mistaking that Keith Olbermann's latest "special comment" was meant to be directed squarely at the president. What I'm now suggesting is that we make sure KO's words get to their target.
Take Keith's words, print them out (add your own sentiments as well if you feel it necessary), and send a copy to the pResident at the White House. Be sure to properly cite KO as the original author of his words of course...
If you'd like a little bit more exposure to Kirsten Gillibrand than what her website can offer, and what can be seen in her campaign ads, you've come to the right place. Below I'll link an interview she did recently with local NPR affiliate WAMC's Alan Chartock on his "Congressional Corner".
The interview is 22:19 in length. It was originally aired broken into 3 segments on September 5, 6, and 7.
As John Sweeney continues his Rovian attack campaign against Kirsten Gillibrand (the latest is she's a "war profiteer" because her husband owns some stock he received as a part of a retirement package from a British defense contractor), the Gillibrand brings us something interesting, and quite amazing. In a state where most political ads are rather bland, the new Gillibrand ad is quite phenomenal. The ad stars David Strathairn in a reprise of his role as Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck.
I just got this in an email from the campaign, I'll have a link up shortly when this gets out to the local blogsEdit: Damn they're fast! Link to the Times Union Blog.
Hudson NY - Today, Kirsten Gillibrand, the Democratic candidate in NY-20
released new polling data, with 39% of the vote, to Sweeney's 47%,Gillibrand is exactly where she needs to be two months before Election Day. Gillibrand is closing the gap with strong momentum; her favorability and familiarity ratings have more than doubled since the Global Strategy Group's last poll in May. Conversely, with less than 50% of the vote, Sweeney's unfavorable rating has increased to 32%, and 41% of voters want to replace him as their Congressman.
I don't have much to say about this, other than this is the single most powerful political cartoon I've ever seen. It blows me away with it's simple analysis of what a joke the media has become.
Swing over to De Rosier's blog and drop him a line if you think this cartoon is as important as I do.
Just out on the Times Union Blog, Ed Pell, one of two minor candidates running against Kirsten Gillibrand for the Democratic nomination to challenge Rethug John Sweeney in November, has announced that both he and Morris Guller have decided to drop out of the race in the spirit of Democratic unity.
Welcome, everyone, to the third edition of "$5 Friday." Use this diary to "Pimp your candidate" below in the comments. Give us all your sales pitch as to why we should donate $5 (or more) to your candidate on this last day of the Second Quarter.
The only thing I ask in return for giving you this forum to pimp your candidate is to look over the list and find a candidate you'd be willing to give $5 to and donate the money. That way we'll all hopefully pull in a few extra dollars for our candidates.
Make sure to recommend this diary after you pimp your candidate. If we can get this up on the recommended list, we'll all get more exposure for our candidates. I'll pimp first below the fold!
Kirsten Gillibrand has officially made this campaign about the war in Iraq and bringing our troops home. Now that she has set the tone, Sweeney will have to defend his support of the pResident's "Stay the Course" strategy. Text of her letter to Sweeney below...
It was a good event, and 20 or so of us hit about 500 households. The New York Times sent a photographer, and did a writeup of the race in today's paper.
We all know that the costs of college tuition have been rising astronomically the past few years. Kirsten Gillibrand, running against Bush tool John Sweeney in NY-20, wants to do something to help.
