EBay: $1 Billion, Solution to the war in Iraq.
Mon Jul 16, 2007 at 01:21:56 PM PDT
End time: Jul-22-07 05:24:36 PDT
I saw this on Rawstory and it moved from 600 to the current bid very rapidly. I thought 1776 gave me an even bigger grin...so I took a picture. I hope he gets up to his dream price of 5 million, but that is a dream.
Emphasis is mine.
"I disagree with the way the war is being handled," Krasnesky told The Post. "I think we're doing some good things over there but I think the end result is going to be bad."

Pakistan Urges Quick Aid For Those Storm Displaced
http://online.wsj.com/...
Pakistan called on the international community to rush aid to one million people left homeless by massive flooding amid forecasts yesterday that still more rain would be dumped on the stricken areas in coming days....
some 20,000 people were rendered homeless after waters from a canal spilled over embankments, ...
Tariq Ayub, Baluchistan's home secretary, who is overseeing the flood-relief operation, said many of the casualties occurred because of drowning and people getting trapped under the debris of their collapsing homes.
Sound familiar?

Hundreds have been killed and hundreds of thousands have lost their homes to recent severe weather.
Pakistan has been particularly hard-hit: earlier this week a cyclone struck the nation's largest city, Karachi, killing at least 230 people. More than 900,000 Pakistanis are affected by the flood and, because roads and bridges have been washed away, dozens of communities are trapped by swollen rivers.
Do to Slow relief efforts: The Pakistan Army is now facing Riots

Father-in-law of patient works for CDC on TB
AP
Bob Cooksey said he gave his son-in-law Andrew Speaker "fatherly advice" when he learned he had contracted the disease. Speaker has a rare and dangerous form of tuberculosis that has proved resistant to drugs.
Cooksey said that had he know his daughter was at any risk, he would not have allowed her to travel. He said he did not act in any official capacity with the CDC on the case.

The administration has issued an proclamation - No more Middle-East talks -
Due to a rouge Banned User that refuses to go. Worse then not going, this Band User has terrorized Kos administrators with threading emails and unlawful reentries, despite continuous deportations.
It seems that Daily Kos security wall has been breached. Where the failure is has yet to be discovered, although it could be a series of tubes?
If this turns out to be True, more unwelcome Trespasser might be able to get In...
This can not be allowed, more diaries would be written by these Trespassers which could cause harm to the whole community; dairies would fly by quicker on the scroll, giving less time for Real Members dairies to be seen. Worse yet these Trespassers are helping dKos enemies by handing ammunition that might be used on FundamentalistWebsites hell-bent on ruining dKos.

The day I Left Israel...
Sun Apr 29, 2007 at 05:04:54 PM PDT
It is a difficult decision, for one to walk away from their home and country: Sure, after the last presidential election, many Americans started dreaming of far way places... But to actually do it, well that is another matter.
Israel was my second Country, not the country of my birth, the country of my Choice. I bought my first home in Israel, after years of living as ether a student or a war gypsy, student again, back to war, I was beginning to look like the constant Traveler. I carried more weight in camera gear then in cloths, my family and friends would laughing tell me they only knew I was alive, when odd books showed up in the post. I only tell you this because for me to buy a home was a big deal, to own more shoes than fit on a carry on. Oh an all my books in one place...
I became active right away, working with different groups trying to bring equality to Israel’s two system schools: Under Law, Israel's Education has separate departments: dividing Israeli-Arabs and Jewish Students. I have always been an Activists, I come from a long line of them. I felt up to the challenges. Bill Clinton was the President and a two state solution looked hopeful.

Free Mojo Night! Spring is here, flowers are in Bloom
Wed Apr 25, 2007 at 07:22:26 PM PDT
Flower Power, the slogan of my lost youth...
Thats right, I am a Child of the ‘70’s. My parents were political activists, the ex Marine Capt and his free spirited wife, standing up to their government, in the country they both loved, and the unjust war of their day. Every spring, I would pick flowers, giving them to anyone that passed: bare feet, great songs, smiling faces.
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin' don't mean nothin' hon' if it ain't free, no no
And feelin' good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues
You know, feelin' good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee...
I love that song, Thanks Janis Joplin

300 million y.o. forest likely to collapse
Mon Apr 23, 2007 at 11:09:44 PM PDT
http://www.nature.com/...
Just a little more history swept under the rug under the Bush administration. How can there be a 300 million year old fossilised forest, if the earth was created about 6,000 years ago?
Geologists have found the remains of a huge underground rainforest hidden in a coal mine in Illinois. The fossil forest, buried by an earthquake 300 million years ago, contains giant versions of several plant types alive today.
This is a treasure that needs to be preserved.
The Senators of Illinois Obama and Durbin need to get up on this.

Dear Dr. James D. Naughton,
There was a post on the Internet to me, in Czech. It has caused me some concern. I do not think the author speaks Czech, they just want me to think they do. Anyway it very odd and I am looking for an expert that might assist me with this matter.

Book Burning? or Worse!
Fri Apr 06, 2007 at 08:42:13 AM PDT
No longer necessary today. When hitting delete, is so quick and silent. Virtual Library are growing. Even I use online books, they are convenient.... But at what COST?
Last night, I watched Kingdom of Heaven with my nephews. After it was over, we ended up talking about the real Saladin. I brought up my home in Israel (they were young when they visited) Do you remember seeing crusader fortress? Well the Christians Knights pulled back to Acre after losing Jerusalem, the war counted for years...
Lets go look it up: This is where things turn strange, we went over to the commuter and logged onto Eleventh Edition of Encyclopedia Britannica: we found SALADIN right away. Then the fourteen year old said "I didn’t know there was PALESTINE then?" and I said well lets look it up- A City in Texas...
"What dose a city in Texas, have to do with Saladin?"
I don’t know...

Iraq“one of the largest thefts in history” +$800m
Sun Mar 11, 2007 at 02:36:42 PM PDT
This is an amazing story. It looks mighty familiar.
From The Sunday Times March 11, 2007 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/...
A former Iraqi defence minister whose 10 months in office coincided with the disappearance of more than $800m (£400m) from the ministry’s coffers is living openly in Amman and London despite a warrant for his arrest.
Hazem Shaalan, a small businessman in London until Saddam Hussein was ousted in 2003, rose in a year to one of the most important jobs in the interim government that ran Iraq from 2004 to 2005.
A cool $80 million a month.
He left Baghdad before the next government discovered that a fortune had been looted from his ministry’s account in what one senior investigator has called "one of the largest thefts in history".
