More after the fold...
Don suffered a big defeat (30% to 70%) against the incumbent Republican for the state house seat in our district. However, Don's reply contained some good news and numbers:
Here's my plan, and I fully intend to follow it. Hopefully a bunch of you will do likewise. (more after the break...)
I'm the sole Democrat at my office (there's at least one Libertarian, but the rest are solid Repubs). I waited in line this morning with my wife and three or four hundred of our closest friends to cast our ballots. The repubs at my office? Can't be bothered. They don't have time to stand in line or don't want to deal with the "aggravation" of it all.
Their mindset is "I'm not happy with Bush, but I sure don't want Kerry either."
Let's hope this is indicative of a larger Repub mindset. I'M certainly not going to encourage them to go vote! :)
He did, however, make a shocking confession to me...
Why is nobody else talking about Bush's flip-flop on Canadian drugs?
Maybe I missed it (and she doesn't read blogs), but after all the talk about "We're not going to import drugs from Canada because we don't know if they're safe," nobody seems to have noticed that Bush said in the last debate regarding flu vaccine, "We're going to import a bunch from Canada."
Did I miss the discussion about this? If not, why hasn't the issue been raised?
We got the last laugh, though: the store that they (and presumably the culprit) came out of? CostCo, a very Democrat-friendly organization with large contributions to the Democratic party, employee unions, etc.
Still... pisses us off, but we're wearing the scratch as a mark of honor. [editor's note, by Bob in Atlanta]Off-topic, but I should also add that I put up our first (and hopefully only) K/E yard sign yesterday, right next to our sign for our Dem state house candidate. There is only one other K/E yard sign in our neighborhood, and at least three BC04 signs.
"... and all three candidates stated that they would oppose a Democratic-sponsored draft bill."
More after these words...
I wouldn't be, either, if I were paid overtime. However, I'm not entirely sure this was the best way to demonstrate that displeasure. Between people shooting into BC04 HQ's in Tennessee to things like this, it's not painting a pretty picture for our side.
(Keep going...)
The audit by the Coalition Provisional Authority's own Inspector General blasts the CPA for "not providing adequate stewardship" of at least $8.8 billion from the Development Fund for Iraq that was given to Iraqi ministries.
Wonder if this will show up in the SCLM?

(With apologies if this has been posted already. I swear I did a diary search, to no avail...)
This summed up for me the attitude of the Bush Administration (and campaign) about the job situation in our country:
A campaign worker for President Bush said on Thursday American workers unhappy with low-quality jobs should find new ones -- or pop a Prozac to make themselves feel better.
"Why don't they get new jobs if they're unhappy -- or go on Prozac?" said Susan Sheybani, an assistant to Bush campaign spokesman Terry Holt.

The Clinton administration talked about firm evidence linking Saddam Hussein's regime to Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network years before President Bush made the same statements.
The issue arose again this month after the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States reported there was no "collaborative relationship" between the old Iraqi regime and bin Laden.[snip]
One came from William S. Cohen, Mr. Clinton's defense secretary. He cited an al Qaeda-Baghdad link to justify the bombing of a pharmaceutical plant in Sudan.
[snip]
The other pronouncement is contained in a Justice Department indictment on Nov. 4, 1998, charging bin Laden with murder in the bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa.
Nicely timed, don't you think, to coincide with Clinton's big comeback? And if these are true (which I don't doubt), why are we just hearing about them now?
Today I learned that the SBC is removing itself from the Baptist World Alliance because of the latter's inclusion of a more-liberal group, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, which the SBC has accused of taking an "anti-Amerkun tone."

James Ridgeway in the Village Voice this morning says, "If things proceed as they are, the dim-bulb Dem leaders are going to be very sorry they screwed Howard Dean." More here.
My friend Nick says, and I agree, "I'd rather have voted for a passionate outsider with barely a chance than a wishywashy lifetime insider like Kerry."
So once again, I'll hold my nose and vote. I don't think Kerry is the lesser of two evils, like many people. I just don't think he's the best we have to offer. Unfortunately, it looks like one way or another, he's what the Dems will be offering. Unless they draft someone else.
But who?
