Diane Rehm just interviewed Paula Deen on the radio, promoting her latest cookbook Christmas with Paula Deen. I am sure that by the time it was over, Paula was sorry that she had agreed to the interview.
This is what I plan to say the next time I get a call from the DNC, the DSCC or the DCCC. Take me off your list. No more money. From now on, I will give money only to specific candidates who voted against funding the Iraq War.
Please limit your comments to two things. Either Recs, or suggestions on how to spend my newly-recovered monies. Charities, the arts, etc. And I don't want to hear that I have no choice but to continue throwing money at these clowns. That otherwise the Repugs will roll over us. They already have.
This morning I got an e-mail from John Edwards, asking me to contact my state Senators to voice my opposition to the War. The e-mail had an easy way to look up my Senators' phone numbers and web-sites (which at this point I should just commit to memory), and so I sent them both an e-mail, since it was too early to call their offies. In the text portion of the e-mail, I began to ask them to do everything possible to end the Iraq War, and to take our men and women out of harm's way. And then it occurred to me. This isn't a war, it's a civil war.
Yesterday, I received a robo-call from Marie Garibaldi (a Justice on the New Jersey Supreme Court appointed by Tom Kean, Sr., as I discovered when I Googled her) asking me to vote for Tom, Jr. In the split second that it took me to hang up on Justice Garibaldi, I wondered whether I was being targeted as an Italian-American, because my last name is Italian. Then I thought, no, couldn't be.
In the afternoon, when I received my mail, I found out how wrong I was!
In the last two days, every time I read a diary about the Foley scandal, I feel that I am in a chat room for, at best, teenagers and at worst, NAMBLA. I know I'm probably older than many of you, but I don't think this is the venue to be discussing: your own, subjective definitions of what constitutes pedophilia (unless you are a psychiatrist); whether it is "perfectly O.K." for a teenage boy to have sex with a 50-some year old man (and never mind the legality of it all), and whether the teenager "egged him on" by flirting with him (Yeech!); and finally, framing this as an abuse of power by a much older person over a younger one.
I live in a suburb of New York City, the kind of place where parents spend their weekends taking their kids to soccer games, socializing with their friends, and relaxing with their families. At least half, if not a majority of the fathers (and some mothers) work in New York, commuting their by train and by car. This is the story of five years ago.
I attached this as a comment to David KC's diary "Tide is Turning against ABC's Mocudrama, but it was late, and I wanted to make sure that others focus on the Steve Jobs (of Apple Computer) connection to Disney Corporation. As part of the merger of Disney and Pixar, Steve Jobs was made a Director of Disney Corporation. As a result, some mention has been made in various diaries on "The Path to 9/11" subject that people contact him.
Ever since the huge Hispanic demonstration in Los Angeles on Friday, we have seen posts on Daily Kos and Huff Po (as well as numerous other sites) discussing the issue. And guess what? It turns out that there is a great divide among the users of these sites (is HuffPo being taken over by Repugs? because I have never seen such xenophobia on display in my life!) on the issue of immigration.
Reuters is reporting the Mayor of New Orleans has announced that, due to the short-fall in money (and, obviously, interest) contributed by the United States government to the devastated city, New Orleans is now looking for other nations to give money for the rebuilding.
This is strangely reminiscent of a failing company becoming vulnerable to a takeover when they don't have the capital to adequately run the corporation. Divisions are either willingly put up for sale, or corporate raiders appear to make hostile bids for the entire company, a division, or for the assets.
George Bush has abandoned New Orleans, and we have been put on notice that the city is up for sale.
I got a call from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, asking that I give money to help take back the House and Senate in '06. I SAID NO!
I am refusing to give money to any Democratic fundraising committee unless Democrats filibuster Samuel Alito. Why should we give money to these folks who, by the way, need a job and a paycheck, if they are basically handing the second branch of the government over to George Bush. Re-take the House and Senate? What for? So that anything they do can be struck down in the SCOTUS? The Court will stand solidly behind George Bush, and there is nothing we, or they (the Senate) can do about it.
Raw Story is reporting on a "developing" story that Zogby is preparing an "impeachment" poll. I know that impeaching Bush would be a difficult thing to do, because Fitzgerald would have to prove that he has committed a crime. That, plus the Republican-led Senate argues against it, unless the moderate Republicans see themselves being dragged down by Bush. BUT. . .
