UPDATE: GOP Attack on Reporter, Candidate, over Voter Registration IN-06
Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 12:19:48 PM PDT
Update 3: Yes, I got hit in the eye, but the real fight is for Democracy IN-06
Fri Apr 11, 2008 at 11:24:49 AM PDT
I know the title sounds corny, but it is true.
First, I want to thank everybody in the Kos community and all of the Netroots Nation for the support and well wishes that have come my way because of this incident. I must give a HUGE personal thank you to sarahlane, pontio, bluestatemeant, JR, Daily Activist, Pioneer 111, along with everyone for their comments, and the great folks at EENR and Democrats.com.
Now, the story that has not been told is what happened in that meeting. Everything has been overshadowed by the violence, and what took place in the meeting itself needs to come out.
The story is not dying locally as the attacker is in the Muncie paper today calling the attack an "attention getter".
Republican registration worker calls attack an 'attention-getter'
"It (the attack on Werner) wouldn't have happened if you hadn't promoted it," Statom said. "When you promote illegal activities, there's ramifications."
He is blaming the newspaper!

Honor from Edwards group.
Wed Feb 27, 2008 at 07:29:31 PM PDT
Monday night, the Edwards Evolution Next Revolution group, formerly know as Edwards Evening News Roundup, the group of Edwards supporters that showed such heart and passion in support of John Edwards, endorsed our campaign here in Indiana and the campaigns of Gilda Reed and Larry Kissell.
I want to thank this great group of concerned citizens, and say a special thank you to sarahlane for taking the time to write that diary Monday night.
I was not available Monday night nor until late last night, and with the focus on the debate last night, I have waited until now to post this.
John McCain unveils Healthcare Plan in Indianapolis
Sat Feb 23, 2008 at 08:15:14 AM PDT
Yesterday the fireball of energy that is John McCain came through the state of Indiana.
Big Mac stopped in Indianapolis but didn’t campaign with the Republican in a special election that is just two weeks away. Hmmm. Either selfish on McCain’s part or the Repub must really suck. I choose both myself.
The Straight talker put a lid on LobbyGate at his presser, and is moving on as everyone has heard. He also gave some praise to my opponent in Indiana’s 6th Congressional District, Mike Pence, who has long been rumored for the VP spot, and that came up again.
The real news out of the stop in Indy though was that McCain showed his cards when it comes to healthcare. His plan below
Obama-Edwards Meet
Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 09:58:06 PM PDT
The Associated Press is reporting that Senator Obama sneaked down to North Carolina and had a meeting with Former Senator and Presidential Candidate John Edwards.
CHICAGO (AP) -- Barack Obama sneaked down to North Carolina Sunday and met with former rival John Edwards, who has yet to make an endorsement in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Officials at North Carolina television station WTVD said they have video taken from a helicopter of Obama leaving Edwards' home in Chapel Hill. A producer said the station was "tipped off" about the meeting, but said the source was confidential.

Those Dog Gone Republicans and the pesky rules.

There is a special election coming up here in Indiana, in the neighboring 7th district.
The election is to fill the term of beloved Congresswoman, the Honorable Julia Carson.
The Republican running in the special election is State Representative Jon Elrod.
As a State Representative, and with the State Legislature in session, Elrod was on the floor of the Indiana State House yesterday and he was doing Congressional Campaigning.
Oh, and the Indiana Democratic Party has him on video tape doing it!
Those pesky rules. Here is the link to the story on WISH-TV’s website. This station is the CBS affiliate in Indianapolis.
Obama playing well in Indiana
Tue Feb 12, 2008 at 11:08:40 AM PDT
I am Barry Welsh and I am the Indiana 6th District Democratic Congressional Candidate. I was the candidate in 2006 and thus far am unopposed in 2008.
The registration period for Indiana ends in 10 days on the 22nd of Feb. at noon.
Thus far, no Democratic candidates for President are on the ballot, and only Mitt Romney is registered for the Republicans. Indiana Secretary of State Election Division.
The Indiana Primary is May 6th, and both parties could have nominations sewed up by then, but then again, maybe not.
The Indiana Super Delegates are lining up behind Senator Hillary Clinton, 5-1, but what about those of us that are regular citizens? Follow me below, please.
Save the Whales

Save The Whales: A call to action
I am Barry Welsh and I am the candidate for Congress in Indiana’s 6th District.
I was one of those people shouting "Save the Whales" from the 70’s through the 90’s. and it is time to shout that once again.
Thanks to a previous diary from Granny Doc. That diary did not get enough attention, and by her request, I have written this diary to draw attention to the issue, I have gone one step further and have a petition up and am asking for your consideration.
50 State Strategy: Indiana fills all Congress slots, Mitt only one in Pres
Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 09:06:12 PM PDT
Since our 2006 website hosted the 50 State Site that tried to get every Republican held Congressional seat a challenger from the Democratic ticket, it is with great pride that I announce that Indiana Democrats are challenging in all districts. Indiana Sec. Of State. We came close to filling every seat nationally, last cycle, and Indiana is full again.
Yes, I am the 6th District Candidate for a second cycle, and yes I need your help in our effort, but this is not a fundraising diary, it is an information diary for election geeks, I myself am one. More below.
Edwards Supporters; Turn Frustration into major Positive
Wed Jan 30, 2008 at 01:08:49 PM PDT
I hoped John Edwards would be the nominee of our party for the Presidency.
Some of you know me, and some of you may not. I am Barry Welsh and I am running for Congress for a second time
Against Mike Pence in Indiana’s 6th District.
I will support and work for whom ever our nominee is, but I wanted John Edwards to be our nominee because our messages were so similar.
Please take 2:34 seconds to watch this and then see if you don’t agree with me that we share a very similar message. Video.
Here is a link to some of our other videos
Our campaign is going to continue to stand up for the citizens. We are going to continue shouting about independence from Oil. We are going to continue to call for health care, not just health insurance, for all. We are going to continue to fight for human, and individual rights. I have been and will continue to be a voice for those that do not have a voice.
A Democratic response to the State of the Union.
Mon Jan 28, 2008 at 07:17:42 PM PDT
Mr. President, how dare you? How dare you pretend to be a leader on Global climate issues? How dare you claim fiscal responsibility, or any kind of responsibility with the management of this nation that you and your administration have displayed?
How dare you blame public schools and the hard working teachers that staff them for your failure? How dare you claim to be a leader for the humanity of African nations and leave the legacy of New Orleans, the gulf coast, and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in your own nation?
Mr. President, you are a failure and will go down in history as the worst President ever.
"Come Together, Over Me"
Sun Jan 20, 2008 at 07:24:15 PM PDT
The past few days, it has been freezing here, my 19, soon to be 20, year old daughter told me she was engaged to be married, and my wife has the flu so I have spent more time on the computer than usual.
I love the passion I see on this site, and always have, but children’s rhymes aside, words can and do hurt at times, and the line of falling in love for the primary and falling in line for the general, needs to be tossed out there every once and a while because any Democratic candidate for President is honestly better than all of the Republican field, in my opinion.
So all of you, no matter who you support for President, give me three minutes of your time below for something I hope most of you can agree on.

How long is it? w/poll
Fri Jan 11, 2008 at 02:59:18 PM PDT
How long is this primary season going to be?
When will we get a nominee?
Not that I am ready for the primary season to be over after only two contests, but CW was that we would have our nominee after only two contests.
It is not hard to see the Republican nomination being up for grabs for a long time, possibly even leading to their convention.
My question is, How long will the primary process actually be? Will it end for both parties after Feb 5th? Will both parties still have contests when we in Indiana go to the primary polls May 8th? Will both parties go to brokered conventions this year?
