I swear I'm not making that up, and I urge you to go and see if you don't believe me:
There seems to me no question that the Batman film "The Dark Knight," currently breaking every box office record in history, is at some level a paean of praise to the fortitude and moral courage that has been shown by George W. Bush in this time of terror and war.
There's been a good bit of hand-wringing lately about Obama's recent moves, mainly about FISA but also about Clark's comments.
We've had the usual people swearing off Obama forever, claiming he's a traitor, "blah blah blah McCain points" crap.
But even more annoying are the people who somehow think it's necessary to chastise those disappointed in Obama's moves, lumping all those criticizing Obama into the "cut off the nose to spite the face" group.
How about you all fucking relax and realize what's going on here?
"The FISA legislation we will consider gives our intelligence community the tools it needs and the public the civil liberty protections it deserves. In addition, it rejects calls for automatic immunity for private sector companies. While this bill isn’t perfect, the perfect should never be the enemy of the good. I applaud the Democrats and Republicans who reached this compromise and produced legislation that deserves support from both sides of the aisle."
But as I was listening to Thom Hartmann today (I believe he had Peter from Peter, Paul and Mary), that quote popped into my head and I thought, is it only a matter of time? Will an Obama presidency make it more difficult to address racism in our society?
I was at work all day. Stressed out of my freakin mind by all sorts of nonsense.
My job sucks because they're not giving me the promotion I wanted, and instead want to make me take a promotion I don't want at all (undesirable location, undesirable pay, undesirable EVERYTHING, basically).
All sorts of family related shit and personal life related shit.
Thusly, as I just got back from the bar....(good times)......
...and rather than write a substantive, intelligent and brilliant diary (which I really wouldn't do anyway), I give you this:
This is a response to a well-written diary on the recommended list, written by Snickers77. Please head over and read it, and make sure you give Snickers77 some mojo for a personal, well-written diary. The diary itself was not what disturbed me.
Here's what disturbed me, in the words of Snicker's pastor:
He said that we should not be afraid that if we don't vote that McCain will get in, that we have survived Bush, Bush Sr., Reagan, The Vietnam War, 2 World Wars, A great Depression, A Civil War, Slavery, Jim Crow, Segregation, and a Revolution, we will be OK!
Hillary Clinton shocked the world and defied the pollsters and pundits who have been predicting for weeks that Clinton would win Pennsylvania by margins of up to 20 points.
She managed to beat the odds and overcome disadvantages like having 100 Pennsylvania mayors endorsing her and massive name recognition (plus a famous husband; maybe you've heard of him), and managed to WIN Pennsylvania by just under 10 points!
Appearing on the Recommended List is amongst the highest (and most elusive) of honors. I should know, as I've been there several times. Most of you have never appeared on the Rec List, probably due to some inherent flaw on your part. So, to help you all out, I've compiled an easy-to-follow "How To" diary designed to--unfailingly--get you on that list.
I'm probably spending too much time in and around cesspools of lies and pathetic and talentless hacks, but I'm getting really damn tired of seeing the phrase "Chicago politics" used as an attack against Obama.
It's funny how often Clinton supporters say that Obama supporters "need" them and shouldn't burn bridges, and yet they casually label one of the biggest cities in America as politically bankrupt.
Well, as a Chicagoan, it's starting to piss me off.
As we see diary after diary lovingly crafted about "bittergate," I realize that it can get a little confusing to keep track of the myriad facts composing this saga. I spent the last few hours collecting, analyzing and then organizing all the data so that anyone who finds themselves lost and wandering the murky halls of this scandal can finally see the light and make sense of it all.
Here, then, is what happened:
Obama made a factually correct point using sloppy language.
Clinton and her campaign seized on the language to try and gain points on Obama.
The fallout from Obama's language has been minimal at best, imaginary at worst.
Such has not deterred the Clinton campaign nor its supporters from continuing to use this "scandal."
This is what was said in a press release from yesterday:
"We've seen unprecedented Fed actions over the last several days to address the crisis on Wall Street, but nothing to address the crisis on Main Street," Clinton told Bloomberg, which first reported the news. Clinton plans to discuss the details of her stimulus plan in a speech on the economy set for Mar. 24. Further initiatives are likely in coming weeks.
Insiders tell TVNewser Tucker Carlson's 6pmET show Tucker is getting the axe, but Carlson stays on as a political contributor to all MSNBC shows at least through the 2008 election.
Wow. How cool is that.
Apparently, he might get canceled, and if he does he might stay on as a contributor to all MSNBC shows.
Through the 2008 elections.
SHIT, everyone get excited! Tucker is gone!
Maybe. And he might stay on as a contributor for another year. But still! Let's all go crazy!
