McCain's attack ad is all about the Antichrist
Sun Aug 03, 2008 at 08:03:54 PM PDT
To those who say it's a "dog whistle" for racists, I say you're wrong - it's absolutely not: it's a dog whistle for evangelicals/fundamentalists/end-of-times Christians in general, and it's a note so lost in the ethers you'd swear you're not hearing what you're sort of not hearing.
Why, why, why mention assassination, Hillary?
Sat May 24, 2008 at 10:47:42 AM PDT
I've been pondering Hillary's RFK remark, thinking on its context, trying to figure out where it could possibly be coming from, and at first, I gave her a pass - it looked and sounded as if she were really speaking on the fly, and about June presidential campaigning at that. But it niggles, the mention of RFK's assassination, because it doesn't fit the context, you know?
Mukasey: We're going Banana Republic
Thu Feb 07, 2008 at 03:15:31 PM PDT
Please, I beg you, follow this link and be amazed: http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmem... I'm not gonna knock my fellow Kos denizens regarding their diaries, for that would be bad form to the millionth degree, but I tell you, the Obama/Clinton soap opera is a dinner-theater spectacle compared to what's going on with Congress and AG Mukasey.
Never Hillary
Sat Nov 17, 2007 at 06:31:59 PM PDT
Never Hillary, never ever. Can't have her. Pragmatic reasons - purely. It comes down to business. Turns out that the petroleum business can't brook her.
More after the fold.
Gonzales and the Texas Teen Sex Scandal
Thu Mar 29, 2007 at 12:39:15 PM PDT
This is a new one: apparently, Alberto Gonzales (he of impeccable child-protection credentials) and the Justice Department poo-poohed investigations/prosecutions regarding allegations of rampant sexual abuse at the Texas Youth Commission. This is fairly recent, but I don't want to call it breaking; however, for all intents and purposes, at a low level, it is indeed breaking.

Okay, I'm loving the Dems
Mon Mar 19, 2007 at 10:41:46 PM PDT
I have been a pretty steadfast critic of the Democratic Party since this great Era of Bush the Second began lo these 6.5 years ago. I have assailed them and harangued them for this and that action (and more than a few nonactions), and generally lamented the parting of their collective ovaries and ballsacks. I tried to be fair - they were, after all, the minority party for a long time, and during Bush's reign the minorities have suffered the most, no question - but they were one infuriating party, I tell you. I know a bunch of you know waht I mean.
However...
Dems, please do something substantive re: Iraq
Tue Mar 06, 2007 at 01:08:21 PM PDT
My rage and frustration after reading and contemplating this are too much to bear for any kind of respectful or conciliatory words.
Democrats have failed us again - in particular, the DLC and Blue Dog variety. And, thanks to their rank cowardice, the killing will continue, abetted by Democrats yet again. All to kowtow to those within their ranks who are from "Republican-leaning districts." Fucking pathetic.
Let us not be naive

Stupid Dem Move #1: Crying to (Abusive) Daddy
Thu Feb 22, 2007 at 12:57:33 PM PDT
Here we are, friends, working through the third month since Democrats were victorious in their Congressional challenges. Remember the thrills, the chills, the fantasizing of bills that'd rectify 5 years of Bushian abuses? Remember the visualization of figurative muscles with "Dems" tattooed on them, flexing in the face of power-fucked Republicans, positively limp with pleasure after 5 years of mutual cocksucking and red-white-'n-blue orgasms smearing each others' faces?
Yeah, I really don't remember either.
Musings on World War
Wed Feb 14, 2007 at 10:50:39 PM PDT
I came across this at Antiwar.com, and thought I'd share it with you. It's quite terrifying. I only ask, rhetorically, Does it presage a world war?
Why They Run: Privilege, Status, Prestige and Wealth
Tue Feb 13, 2007 at 09:20:55 PM PDT
They promise us so many things, these men and women desirous of power. But you know, what most of them want is mean and mere: privilege, status, prestige, a transcendence of the law and wealth.
Dems gotta get off the Iran bus...
Tue Feb 13, 2007 at 03:41:03 PM PDT
...and start talking about that bus's idling, its warming engine, its position on the outskirts of town. It can't be allowed to travel 20 feet, Dems. It's gotta be torn to shreds, with each part scattered over a 10,000-mile radius.
A picture of untold worth
Mon Feb 12, 2007 at 05:20:19 PM PDT
Today, in my Internet-cruising, I came across an alternately enraging and heartbreaking picture. It is distressing; it is sickening; it is colossally powerful; its reality is chillingly mundane, as far as the wider American world goes.
Poor Andrew
Thu Feb 08, 2007 at 01:16:10 PM PDT
Directly before the Iraq war, I traded a few e-mails with Andrew Sullivan, who was exasperating the hell out of me at the time with his (I thought) rather breezy acceptance of Bush/Cheney talking-points regarding the war's urgent necessity - namely, Iraq's alleged possession of WMDs. Through my own research (before I discovered Dailykos, sorry) on sites like Antiwar.com and Talkingpointsmemo.com, as well as reading what Seymour Hersh was saying about "stovepiping" intelligence in the New Yorker, I'd concluded that the WMD charge was flimsy as hell, if not flimsier. But Andrew would hear none of it.
The Vampire, #1
Wed Feb 07, 2007 at 08:47:04 PM PDT
The vampire owned a car, but he never drove it - or, he never drove it beyond this or that side of the street, to avoid it sitting in one place for longer than a day. Suspicious, you know. He'd learned in his time, for sure.
On Mr. Lieberman's War Tax
Tue Feb 06, 2007 at 06:08:19 PM PDT
You have to love nefariousness, when Joe Lieberman's dealing in it. The twists are sublimely original, and the gall you can taste in your mouth. That's positively artistic, and sure as fuck not easy.
"All for a patch of earth, and some dollars"
Wed Jan 31, 2007 at 09:12:42 PM PDT
The above was spat out by a friend of mine in a fit of...a fit. He was rather upset. He was rather upset at the government - the federal version - "running roughshod all over my shit."
He'd just had a run-in, you see, with a rank-and-file dumbass, asking dumbass questions.
