Truce! Not.

Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 07:23:10 AM PDT

I'm sorry, but Clinton agrees to a truce to the MLK Wars and less than a day later, big time Hillary supported Charlie Rangel calls Obama's remarks about Clinton's remarks Stupid?  Wow.  Well, say goodbye to Barak Obama -- the Clinton's are full steam ahead and they've got the entire cast of superhero democratic members of the Hall of Justice lined up to shill for them.  Sorry Barak, but you can't beat this machine. (there goes my money...again.)

The Trap is Being Reset

Sat Aug 25, 2007 at 08:54:19 AM PDT

It's happening again.  The trap is being reset.  The bait is being placed.  Are democrats going to get whacked again or are they finally going to realize that a tasty piece of cheese isn't worth a crushed skull?

The set-up for this latest White House effort began with the seemingly reasonable request to give the surge a chance and wait until September for the report (seemed reasonable to enough Republicans, anyway.)  The implication here was that if the report wasn't good, the White House would admit it's own failure and become more rational and maybe start to work out a plan for withdrawal.

The Revolution has just Begun

Fri Nov 10, 2006 at 11:55:39 AM PDT

Lots of talk on the TV about how the Democrats won by being conservatives; that, no, the voters didn't move left, the Democrats moved right;  the "conservative movement" is alive and well in the Democratic party.

Well, ok.  So who needs the Republican party then?

In fact the center moved left and the lie that all Democrats are all wild eyed communists was laid waste.  Lo and behold, Democrats include people who will balance the budget; who don't necessarily want to take away your right to bear arms; and who can be Anti-Abortion and Pro-Choice at the same time, because reasonable people see the difference.  We can want to help the disadvantage and the innocent and do it without destroying our economy or giving up our rights.  We can fight the terrorists and not sacrifice our ideals.

THE STUPIDIST THING I'VE EVER READ

Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 10:54:18 PM PDT

"Between March 21, 2003, when the first military death was recorded in Iraq, and March 31, 2006, there were 2,321 deaths among American troops in Iraq. Seventy-nine percent were a result of action by hostile forces. Troops spent a total of 592,002 "person-years" in Iraq during this period. The ratio of deaths to person-years, .00392, or 3.92 deaths per 1,000 person-years, is the death rate of military personnel in Iraq."

The thing that makes me cringe, when I bother to watch politics on the TV, is when the good guys, democrats, are accused of having no ideas and then, when they offer them up, they do so by way of comparison rather than direct statement.  This happened recently on the Daily Show when my Hero Dr. Howard Dean, fell in the hole:  "I'll tell you what we'll do," he said  - and I held my breath with anticipation -- "we won't do what the republicans are doing."  And I nearly choked.

WHO? In CA Dem Primary?

Tue Mar 07, 2006 at 06:48:12 PM PDT

I can't figure out who to vote for in the California Democratic Primary for govenor.  I know it's a ways off yet, but it seems that we have two decent candidates.  They are both CA Dem machine candidates, that's for sure.  Angelides seems to be getting all the endorsements.  Westly has money.  Neither of those things really makes me comfortable.

I may end up going for the one that doesn't go negative first....

TEXAS SUES BUSH

Sat Mar 04, 2006 at 07:50:59 AM PDT

Another big embarassement for Bush:

Five States Sue Government Over Medicare

Texas and four other states sued the federal government Friday, alleging they are being forced to help fund the new Medicare prescription drug program in violation of the Constitution.

In the lawsuit filed in the U.S. Supreme Court, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott argued that states should not have to relinquish taxpayer dollars to pay for a program offered by the federal government.

"The federal government has placed what amounts to a direct tax upon Texas and other states in violation of the U.S. Constitution," Abbott said in a statement.

Who cares what the Constitution says?

Thu Aug 04, 2005 at 12:54:52 AM PDT

I'm no constitutional scholar.

Hell, I'm not a scholar of any kind.

But so what? I have opinions, just like anybody else, and they matter...to me.

And here's what I think about all this constitutional guarantee to a "right to privacy" crap.

Kos PAC?

Thu Jul 28, 2005 at 08:39:49 PM PDT

I get mail and email requests almost daily from various and sundry political figures (some I like--some I wish would disappear) asking for money for their political action committee.  Recently I got one from Barbara Boxer, who I like AND support, and I went to her website to see how she might be spending that money. I was impressed, in so far as I could actually tell what she was doing with the money. But what I realized, perhaps naively (ha! "perhaps") that having a stash of money was POWER. Duh!

WE'RE SCREWED! (With Poll)

Wed Jul 27, 2005 at 11:47:46 AM PDT

US to pull out troops by next summer, just in time to give the republicans an election boost.

This morning on NPR I heard that a General  Casey in Iraq was talking about how US troops could be coming home in large numbers by next summer.

Then there's this:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,1537140,00.html

The Iraqi prime minister, Ibrahim Jaafari, today called for the speedy withdrawal of US troops from the country....
Mr Rumsfeld said no exact timetable had been set but, speaking through a translator, said: "We confirm, and we desire, speed in that regard."

Is the Bush administration finally setting a deadline for withdrawl?  Of course thay can't say it or they will look like they crumbled under the pressure.  But when you've got Rumsfeld's surprise visit on the day Casey says we can pull out by Spring / Summer 2006 and the Iraqi PM also stating the desire of the Iraqi people that US troops pul out ASAP -- I'd say we've got a whole new spin war going on.

BILL FRIST TAKES BIGGEST HIT in Poll

Wed Jun 15, 2005 at 04:54:30 PM PDT

As noted over at Donkey Rising ,
SuveyUSA has just released it's monthly report on the approval ratings of U.S. Senators, and the news is good. Of the 25 highest-ranking US Senators, 17 are Democrats, plus Independent Jim Jeffords. Stated in reverse terms, only 7 US Senators of the 25 highest-ranking approval ratings are Republicans.

And though the lists are sorted three ways, none was sorted to show NET change from May to June.  So I did it myself and found that Bill Frist had the largest Negative Net Change (Approval minus Dissaproval) at -14 (-7 Approval +7 Dissaproval)of the enitre Senate.

I don't know if that's the right way to do it, but it sure was fun.

<Best Net Gain ...>

It's a Coup, not a deal...

Tue May 24, 2005 at 04:03:18 PM PDT

7 Republican moderates and to a lesser degree 7 Democratic Moderates have excecuted a non-military coup in the Senate.  These 14 (but especially the 7 Republicans) now have more power than the President when it comes to appointments and legislation.

More dangerous in IRAQ Now then Before

Wed May 11, 2005 at 05:00:26 PM PDT

I think we have offically reached the point where even the lame justification for the war in Iraq that at least they are better off without Sadam can be challenged.  Life under Sadam (or any dictator, for that matter) was(is) bad, but at least you can avoid getting killed by keeping quiet and marching when told to.

We've had how many days of 30+ deaths from insurgent suicide bombs directed at Iraqis?  And now today another 60-67 dead.

I Did It! (Voluteered)

Sat Apr 16, 2005 at 05:58:47 PM PDT

And boy, do my feet hurt. Today I was a voluteer at the California State Convention in Los Angeles. I was an Usher for both of the General Sessions. This is the first time I have done this (or really anything at all like it.) While guarding an entrance to the fordidden "Clutch" room I heard Nacny Pelosi and Barbara Boxer Speak. I was very impressed by both. Boxer got several standing ovations. The other speakers in the morning session were Phil Angelides who we all know is running for Govenor in 2006. He was very well spoken and had some really good lines. Not boring at all, as I have heard some people say. Also the state Controller Steve Westly really worked the crowd.

Wish Me Luck

Fri Apr 15, 2005 at 08:29:18 PM PDT

[Update] New Entry

Along with a mulititude of hundreds, I will be a volunteer at the Californina Democratic Convention Tomorrow - Saturday - from the ungodly hour of 7am until only god knows when it ends in the evening - on my feet - an Usher on the conventional Hall floor.

I've discovered that the real danger with the internet is that you might actually vounteer for something and then they will expect you to show up!

Wish me luck.  I'll be busy, but I've got a camera in my cell phone, so if you aren't satisifed my the myriad professional photos of the event from the real press, there might be some of mine.

Opposition Party Wanted

Fri Apr 08, 2005 at 01:54:44 PM PDT

And the Demcrats could fill the bill with the approval of the people (even some who didn't vote for them!)

This from Donkeyrising

In addition, by 55-29 (61-22 among independents), voters say Democrats should "provide a balance" to make sure Bush and the Republicans don't go too far with their agenda, rather than "work in a bipartisan way" with Republicans to help pass Bush's legislative priorities and avoid gridlock.

I suspect the reason Bush is pushing Social Secutiry now and for only 30 more days, is that he knows he needs to get back up in the polls by 2006 or the Republicans will lose.  So he's using up his "mandate" and by the end of summer, who will even remember either what he did or that he lost?  Only us?  Probably, unless between DeLay and Social Security, the bad taste in America's mouth lingers long enough to change attitudes.

Plame Game Over?

Wed Apr 06, 2005 at 05:41:11 PM PDT

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/04/06/national/w160151D82.DTL

"The federal prosecutor investigating the leak of an undercover CIA officer's name says his work is complete except for one large omission: hearing from two reporters who are fighting a court order to answer questions under oath."

Is this the end?  The journalists who never filed a report go to jail and NOvak and the leakers go free?  Damn.

Which Democratic Party Do You Belong To?

Sun Dec 12, 2004 at 05:10:45 PM PDT

And yes, I'm a Bottoms Up kind of Democrat.  I think all this talk about the MESSAGE is silly.  The party can not dictate to us ANY message that will please us all.  We're Democrats, for Christ's sake.  We don't really have a problem with compromise, so long as it is worked out from the people UP to the leadership.  Hell, we don't really even believe in LEADERSHIP anyway, we believe in STEWARDSHIP.
