Surviving in Paradise, beats surviving on the mainland. Making my way on the island of Kauai. Poorly trying to keep websites updated while working and reading DailyKos diaries.... Doesn't DK mean Donkey Kong? Sorry I know this dates me.

Freedoms We Have

Sun Apr 20, 2008 at 12:56:55 PM PDT

I hope to exercise my freedom.

Whatever that may mean?

Do I do pushups with the the freedom of press?

Jumping jacks with free speech?

Does religion need some squats?

Or just to exercise on its own?

Can I do this with others?

May I bring a gun?

The Aristocrats?

Tue Jul 03, 2007 at 01:12:55 AM PDT

There is this joke that is common amongst comedians called The Aristocrats.  A movie of the same name was made about the joke.  The joke is a competition for who can tell it in the most dirty disgusting way.  The joke is what is happening in and to the United States of America.  And now the joke -

A family walks unto the US political stage, They introduce themselves - George Sr, Barb, George Jr, Jeb, Neil, The twins, Uncle Dick and various other cousins and relatives.  Whoa, says the US this is a large act you got here on the political stage what is your shtick?

Something to "Space Out" on this weekend!

Sat Apr 28, 2007 at 10:56:37 PM PDT

How does the use of marijuana influence ones political beliefs?  Is the answer that this influence makes someone more socially liberal.  Do those of us who use the herb have a more socially tolerant view than those that don't or never have used ganja?

Most people believe that marijuana causes people to "space out", the average preconception when visualizing someone "stoned on weed" is to see that person "spacing out".  So I will accept this as a premise and explore what it may represent to "space out" for me personally and perhaps others.

Please feel free to add your insights as to whether I'm on the mark of way off base with the following observation on "Spacing Out".  And at the end there is is nice link to visit!

Mendicancy - why does it exist?

Tue Feb 27, 2007 at 02:37:51 PM PDT

The mendicancy within the group of candidates is somewhat disturbing.  Why do I use this word and what does it mean?  Go look it up.  I find the necessity of the mendicancy something that needs to change in running for office and in the common situation of the working class.

"We make no apology for asserting that the welfare of the country centers in the one fact of doing absolute justice in all matters relating to fair wages for work, by which we mean such wages as shall make the home of the American workingman exempt from the ceaseless peril of mendicancy. 1"

Who said this and when was it said?  This was a person that seen the same strugle we have today but long ago.  A person who gave answers to the many questions that are relevant to the problems we face today.

Questions of justice in wage inequality, health care and war.  What other things did this person say?  Join me below the fold for some quotes and links to one of our greatest American heroes of the working class.

Protest poetry, 1st ed.

Aloha all kossacks,

I have been here for quite some time, lurker for years than finally got a uid and made a few comments and tried to write a diary or two.  Even got TU status here at one time but that didn't last once I got too busy to be here regularly.  Now that I have a little time again and I see that there has been some more pie fights and such I think I'll just start this series of diaries I'm planning with something I wrote long ago....

Al Jazeera English - What CNN was in the beginning?

Wed Nov 15, 2006 at 12:02:58 PM PDT

CNN was a valuable source at one time now Al Jezeera English is a new option and available free streaming live on-line at, Aljezeera.net. This was the first story I seen.

13 million passports stolen or lost and a database to check them against, but only the Swiss and Charles De Gaul airport in Paris use the database to check people entering the country.  Database has grown from 14,000 in 2002 to 13 million today.  Technology is simple to install but not beeing used.  And the kicker, The Swiss catch 100 people a month with the database.  That's 100 people using fake passports to get into Switzerland.  Question, how many have used fake passports to enter the USA?  Don't know do we!  From the Swiss numbers I'd say 500 a month here in the US perhaps.  That is only a guess of course.

META: UID at 99940, will we have a good username at 100000?

Wed Aug 09, 2006 at 06:30:59 PM PDT

As I write this the UID is up to 99,940  what will be the username of the 100K UID?  Will it be a troll?  Will it be second account of a current user?  Can we give the person a grand welcome?  Should we wait for a comment or the first diary by the user?  Not going to make a poll just want to make it known that user ID 100k is on the way!

My Boss is now a DEM!

Mon Jul 24, 2006 at 02:16:45 AM PDT

What an interesting conversation I had tonight. I went by my bosses house to drop off the income I earned for them selling, suncatchers here in paradise. I always enjoy talking with them because they are a culturally mixed couple, and what an unusual mix - He a US citizen and She Italian born and raised. I mention this mix because I had to explain a lot about American politics to the European. She watched Faux News and was, I REPEAT WAS, a vocal Republican supporter and Bush apologist. There's more on the flip!
