Help Clean Up Austin!

Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 08:52:10 PM PDT

Good evening Kossacks!  Rather than posting my usual late night snarky comments, I'm writing to you all as a community to ask a favor.  I'm totally aware that we're in a bit of donor fatigue (what with our favorite presidential/senatorial candidates, as well as ActBlue donations of late), but I promise you that this cause, despite not going to ousting Republicans on their rears, is just as important!

With Netroots Nation coming to our fair city this summer, this is your chance to help improve the local community.  Project is the University of Texas at Austin's largest single day of service, with the goal of painting over graffiti (over 1.5 miles painted over in 2007 alone!), planting gardens, repairing damaged school playground equipment, and trash pickup in some of the poorest communities in East Austin.

See how you can help after the jump!

One Morning in April

Fri Apr 20, 2007 at 10:19:58 AM PDT

Monady morning at 9:30 AM, I was going across campus to a biology class.  My thoughts were entirely focused on the injustice of a 10 AM class, a term paper whose due date was fast approaching, a bit perturbed with a business arrangement that was falling out.  A part of me was even thinking about the 30 page chapter on human brain function that I still had not read.  Trudging up the stairs of the largest building on campus, I really wasn't thinking about anything of grave importance to the world.

By 11:30 AM, I was thinking something entirely different.  What a difference two hours makes.
