Sunday Governor's Poll
Sun Jul 31, 2005 at 09:30:10 PM PDT
Just curious who feels the most important Governor's race of '06 will be. We will be playing offense for the Governor's mansions in '06 due to very good luck with the lack of candidates against our mid and western Govs (Sebelius, Henry, Freudenthal, Richardson and Napolitano) and our luck with the failures of Pataki, Romney, Erlich, Schwarzenegger, Riley and Murkowski. Below is a short rundown on the tope likely races.
WYFP?!? Hump day edition
Wed Jul 13, 2005 at 10:06:23 PM PDT
I have'nt seen a good WYFP diary lately and just decided to throw one out there. Mine is being underemployed and the lack of real jobs out there... The market is not looking good still folks and I don't think it's getting better anytime soon. However if anybody knows of any companies hiring this thread would be a great place to let me know about them.
So let me know friends, WYFP?!?
Karl Rove Jeopardy
Wed Jul 06, 2005 at 04:05:18 PM PDT
Okay, this is a small diary and I will probably get the folks in a tizzy about how I knocked off a worthy diary, However...
A local radio station was running a call in segment based off jeopardy, they give an answer and you give the question. Todays answer was Karl Rove. Some of the answers below the fold
Who Am I? Why Am I Here?!?
Tue Jul 05, 2005 at 09:44:27 PM PDT
Vice Admiral James Stockdale died today at age 81. Probably best known as the to put it nicely, "less prepared" running mate to Ross Perot in 1992. However so close to Independence Day he should be remembered as a great war hero and true American Patriot.
I can think of few who could withstand the torture inflicted on POW's like Stockdale and McCain and all other Americans who have served and made the ultimate sacrifices of not only giving up their lives but refusing to give in and put their fellow soldiers and those of us at home in further danger by giving up what information they may have to the enemy. I wish nothing but the best for all our Veterans, current Armed Services members and all those making the ultimate sacrifices day in day out.

Constitution in Flames
Wed Jun 22, 2005 at 08:19:12 PM PDT
Okay here is the bottom line, flag burning seems to be about ready to break loose. We need to begin framing immediately. The question is which frame do we choose? The three most immediately logical choices are; Personal freedom, First Amendment decimation or Constitutional desecration. Each of these has very obvious advantages but they also can be turned back by the Republicans.
Flip for the idea
Rummy's problem
Sun May 22, 2005 at 08:34:30 PM PDT
Rummy went down to Georgia. He was lookin' for a soul to ship out. He was in a bind 'cause enlistment was way behind, and he was willin' to make a deal, when he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot. And the Rummy jumped up on a hickory stump and said,
"Boy, let me tell you what.
I guess you didn't know it but I'm a fiddle player, too. And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you. Now, you play pretty good fiddle, boy, bet you you shoot a gun well too. I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your signature, 'cause I think I'm better than you." The boy said, "My name's Johnny, and it might be a sin. But I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret, 'cause I'm the best that's ever been."
Johnny, rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard, 'cause hell's broke loose in Iraq and Rummy deals the cards. If you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold. But if you lose, then Rummy ships you out.

Star of 2006
Tue May 03, 2005 at 09:52:46 PM PDT
I am tired of the Presidential polling so I have decided to run my own poll. Who will be the Star of the 2006 cycle? Who will be our next stand out? The Obama of 2004 tommorrow? We have alot of possible candidates and I want to run over the bio of a couple of the possible superstars.
Some of these will be debated on the merit of already being superstars, however I specifically removed 3 whom I felt were already fairly well cemented in the public eye from the list (Gov's Rendell and Richardson and AG Spitzer) since they are not starting at the same level as some of these folks who I will discuss below the fold...

Truth in advertising
Fri Apr 08, 2005 at 09:09:50 PM PDT
Okay, two procedural discussions that I would like to clear up...
Diary titles...should the community self police and discuss why a title is incorrect or misleading? After getting into a disagreement earlier over a very misleading diary title, I decided I would like to hear how others feel. Should people be allowed to spread libel around DKos with reckless abandon and we should just downrate them in their "tip jar" or should we request title changes?

John McCain WILL run for President in '08
Mon May 31, 2004 at 09:43:14 AM PDT
I know everybody is tired of the McCain as Kerry's V.P. stories, so I wanted to put my prediction out there because I think this is what he has in mind.
John McCain has proven the ability to raise enough money to be competitive. He has a massive following on both the left and the right, as has been proven by the polls showing him pushing Kerry not only ahead but significantly ahead (close to blow out proportions).
Best campaign theme song of current history
Tue May 25, 2004 at 11:10:10 AM PDT
The use of song to create a cohesive campaign message has been a key part of almost every American campaign though the use of "pop" songs is relatively new (remember "Tippecanoe and Tyler too!"?) So let's take a look at some recent campaign songs...
Time for Mint Juleps
Fri Apr 30, 2004 at 03:19:10 PM PDT
Okay the 130th Run for the Roses starts tommorrow and the jockeys will be wearing endorsments on their silks NASCAR style. The change is on that was fought for many years by the establishment but for once the little guy won and got the right to wear the endorsements (pun most def. intended). So what do you think who's gonna bring it home with the last minute scratch of Wimbeldon? Or do you even care about it?
Nixon enemy list member
Fri Apr 23, 2004 at 10:03:38 AM PDT
Mary McGrory passed away in Washington D.C. One of the original members of his list, she was a woman who knocked down barriers in politics as well as journalism. Fighting Republicans for 50+ years, not a bad record from McCarthy to Bush I, while getting the Pulitzer for giving Nixon the beat down.
This is a good time to reflect on how to make sure we make 2004 another year of the Woman. Send a donation to your favorite female candidate today in her honor.

Losing seats...in the primary
Sat Apr 10, 2004 at 09:46:56 PM PDT
Interesting article posted on the Hill. Rep. Ciro Rodriguez looked as though he won his primary, beating back a stiff challenge from a turncoat Dem until a ballot box mysteriously appeared and handed the election to Henry Cuellar.
The plot only thickens as we go along...check this out
Republican "tax-cuts"= responsible voters
Wed Apr 07, 2004 at 02:40:47 PM PDT
Hmm...Kansas City area had bonds and levy initiatives for schools in almost every district locally as well as infastructure initiatives... Almost all passed everywhere.
Local republican mayors and city council members were turned out in many elections, in MO the suburbs of Kansas City is the big battlefield for winning the state...Let's hope all the suburban folks remember they were given a small tax cut then forced to raise their own taxes to support schools and remember to vote out Bush congress and the republican state house in November!
MoveOn moved wrong
Sat Apr 03, 2004 at 05:11:58 PM PDT
I have gotten into a discussion about the Richard Clarke moveon ad in one of the other threads and wanted to gauge reaction. I have decided that my money will not be going to MoveOn based on their flippant response to Richard Clarke when he asked that they remove the ad featuring him.
I think Richard Clarke has stepped way out on a limb and done something for America. Not to destroy Bush or to help Democrats. The ad just makes him look like some kind of Democratic shill and I think he deserves better than that.
If he really does'nt want the ads to be shown could be debateable, but he has publicly distanced himself from them and I think it would look good for MoveOn to respect his wishes...at least until after all the dust has settled and he has been able to control the message that he is sending about what has happened and what he believes should happen.
House Minority Whip-DUI, as reported by Headline News
Fri Mar 05, 2004 at 03:10:56 AM PDT
I was just watching Headline News and they are reporting that the House Minority Whip (I am assuming they mean Steny Hoyer and not an assistant) was stopped for drunken driving after leaving a reception...hopefully this is a false report...
