Making the Case:  "This is Bush's War"

Wed May 23, 2007 at 05:27:12 AM PDT

Dear Senators Reid, Obama, Clinton, Biden, Dodd, Kerry, Boxer, Webb, and Feingold;  Dear Madame Speaker Pelosi; Dear Representatives Lloyd Doggett, Kucinich and Rahm Emanuel; Dear John Edwards, Dr. Howard Dean and Anyone With Any Sort Of Visible Presence On Television Or Anywhere Else;

How are you?  I hope you are well.  I write you tonight with a teeny-tiny request:  I want you, my elected officials and the spokespeople of my party, to start calling this fucked-up Middle East mess what it is:  George Bush's War.

TX Gov-Gambling with Texas

Mon Oct 16, 2006 at 09:48:17 AM PDT

I'll start off by stating the obvious:  I'm a Chris Bell supporter, through and through.  So maybe that had something to do with my rather strong reaction to this morning's Kinky Friedman article in the local daily.  Here're the opening grafs:
If independent Kinky Friedman wins the governor's race, he'll awaken on his first full day in office and probably tend immediately to any dogs he imports to the Governor's Mansion from his ranch near Medina. Then he'll dress in his customary black from head to foot (hat included, size 7 1/8) and snatch a cigar on his way to the Capitol office vacated by Republican Rick Perry.

Assuming there's no sudden crisis, he'll finish up plans for a trip to Las Vegas.

Well, isn't that special.  Granted, I suppose any candidate would want to take a break after a campaign, especially one as crazy as this one.  But there's just something about Kinky hitting the slots in Vegas that torques my jaw.

(Lend me your ears while I rant a bit.  I apologize in advance for the length.)

Citizenship, Voter's Rights, and Education

Sun Jan 08, 2006 at 08:47:23 AM PDT

This diary (my first or second, I can't remember which) was inspired in part by a comment in Jem6x's Recommended diary.  The commenter wrote that our educational system had failed citizens by neglecting to educate them specifically on the mechanics of voting.  At least, that's what I took from it.
Poll

When we ask voters to support our candidates, do we owe them a little support in return?
