Obama's Electoral Votes

Sun Jun 01, 2008 at 11:25:13 AM PDT

Hi,

Today I'm going to go through exactly what states Obama would need in order to win. 270 electoral votes are needed to win. Because there are exactly 538 electoral votes, its possible for a 269-269 tie, in which case the President would be decided by whoever controlled the House of Representatives at the conclusion of the November election. Currently, the Democrats control that body by a large margin and will probably expand their grip on it due to the large number of Republicans retiring this year, so a tie favors Obama.

Just what's in this so called "Bible?"

Sat May 31, 2008 at 05:25:47 PM PDT

According to my anonymous sources, Barack Obama has been attending a church  which reveres a certain book, known to adherents as the "Holy Bible." This book, as we shall see below, calls for the murder of homosexuals, blasphemers, breakers of the Sabbath, and other non-offenders. It also promotes slavery as moral and allows God's people to enslave foreigners.

Rumor has it that Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and all other current and former Presidential candidates from both parties share an affinity for this strange book. In fact, former candidate Mike Huckabee may have been directly involved in spreading this hate speech himself from the pulpit. More below....

Amnesty International Sponsors Anti-Semitism at UC Irvine

Fri May 16, 2008 at 10:03:38 AM PDT

I realize that the subject of Anti-Semitism is not an easy one to broach here. Many diaries have degenerated into flame-wars over Israel and our place in foreign policy. I don't wish to engange on that argument from either side. Rather, I want to call attention to the fact that a good group - Amnesty International - is involved in sponsoring graphic displays of anti-Semitism at our my campus.

I'm currently a political science major at UC Irvine. Every year that I have attended, the Muslim Student Union at my school puts on a huge display of anti-Jewish sentiment. I was unaware that Amnesty International sponsored the group until just recently. Although the MSU denies that its display is anti-Semitic, pictures don't lie. It goes well beyond a critique of Israeli policy and is nothing more than hate speech against Jews. Follow me over the fold for my photo/video diary about what has happened...

Hillary's Evolving Campaign Rationale

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 08:02:36 PM PDT

Tonight, while watching Keith Olbermann brilliantly skewer Bush’s evolving rationale for war, I thought about the similarities to the evolution of rationalizations by the Hillary Clinton campaign. Both her tactics and her justification for them have changed rapidly and without explanation.

In the past 15 months, they have run the gamut of positions and statements: from being the inevitable, establishment nominee, to being part of the Republican establishment, to claiming certain voters and certain states and certain delegates do not count, to attacking those who do not support her as betrayers, to saying only she and John McCain are fit to be President. Follow me over the fold for the list in full...

This morning, I recieved an important email fowarded to me by my father. The site www.couragecampaign.org, sent the following message. They are demanding that every vote be counted in CA, because they could affect the overall delegate spread.

The Race, As It Stands So Far...With Maps!

Wed Feb 06, 2008 at 09:43:56 AM PDT

I'm not sure if anybody beat me to it, but I didn't see any maps of the actual results of Super Tuesday with the rest of the races on MSNBC or CNN or Fox, or here for that matter, so I thought I'd create one myself.

I never thought I'd say this, but...

Sat Feb 02, 2008 at 05:14:54 PM PDT

I'm finally sick and tired of politics.

I've been making my calls for Barack Obama, and trying not to have a nervous breakdown over anticipation of February 5th. I feel like history is being written as we speak. I find myself scared of the idea of a big Hillary win on Tuesday, but what almost scares me more is a potential 50-50 split of all the delegates, forcing the race to continue on past February 5th and possibly into March or later. It's something that I just cannot take.

My Debate Summary

Thu Jan 31, 2008 at 06:58:52 PM PDT

I watched the debate, and I think that it certainly was an interesting one.

I've outlined what I feel are the key moments of this debate, and who got the best end of the exchanges. I've tried to be as fair as I can, although I will admit that I am an Obama supporter.

Obama is not Wrong

Mon Jan 28, 2008 at 04:00:17 PM PDT

Currently, there is a diary at the top of the rec list stating that Barack Obama is wrong for thinking that this isn’t about "rich vs. poor." I believe that the diarist fundamentally misunderstands Obama’s argument. The key element of his line of reasoning is that if we want to bring about change in this country, we must work together – instead of simply demonizing a group of Americans who we’ve chosen not to like.

USA Today Candidate Picker

Thu Nov 08, 2007 at 03:58:31 PM PDT

USA Today has a new website feature that website feature that allows you to answer a series of questions, weigh their value to you, and see which candidate matches up.

For me, I got #1 (by far): Dennis Kucinich. #2 Mike Gravel #3 Barack Obama. I'd say the test is really good, I am actually an Obama supporter though I do like Kucinich a lot.

Which candidate(s) did you get? I'd be curious if anybody's results included a Republican... you could see you inner troll...

Obama ties Clinton in New Poll

Mon Jun 04, 2007 at 10:55:11 PM PDT

Not sure if this has been diaried, but over at Mydd they have a post about the new Gallup poll that shows Clinton and Obama in a statistical tie. The poll was taken during a span of days, and included some people on Sunday. I was a bit discouraged about the Obama slip in the polls recently, but he's back up again!

Rudy Giuliani: A Closer Look

Mon May 14, 2007 at 11:06:17 PM PDT

Recently there has been a great deal of "primary wars" going on here at Kos, so I just wanted to remind everyone of the real battle in 2008: preventing people like Rudy Guiliani from entering the White House. In this diary, I take a closer look at Rudy's record and show why he would be nothing less than another "Bush conservative" President.

One Nation, Under Joe Dictator

Tue Mar 06, 2007 at 02:28:53 AM PDT

Joe Dictator has been ruling our nation since before you were born. Nobody really knows for sure where Joe came from or when, but he says always ruled the country. In fact, he says not only has he always been the ruler of our country, but he founded, discovered, and invented it, too. Nobody knows where Joe was born, but Joe claims he was never born, and has always existed...

A Moral Imperative: Healthcare

Wed Feb 28, 2007 at 12:56:00 PM PDT

I had no intention of writing this diary when I woke up this morning. I was idly reading a news story, and came across this. It starts out

WASHINGTON - Twelve-year-old Deamonte Driver died of a toothache Sunday.

A routine, $80 tooth extraction might have saved him.

If his mother had been insured.

I think most of us already know what I'm about to say...

Thoughts on Atheism

Mon Feb 05, 2007 at 09:55:34 AM PDT

I've been reading a lot of debates here about religion here lately, and at the same time I just wrote an essay about Atheism for a contest and figured some people here might like to read it. The essay is over the flap.

I just donated. Here's why you should too.

Fri Oct 27, 2006 at 01:30:05 PM PDT

I don't usually donate. Hell, I've NEVER donated. To anything. It's not because I'm completely indifferent. I'm a college student who's been unemployed for a while and I've been trying to scrape by.

But today, I donated. Not a lot, but if we all gave a little...yadda yadda yadda. You know, you've all heard this before. It certainly didn't sway me.
