Remember Eight Belles!

Sat May 03, 2008 at 09:13:21 PM PDT

Recently, I have stopped posting on the DailyKos. You might say that I'm one of the Clinton supporters who decided not to cross the picket line. But I just had to cross that picket line tonight in light of some of the diaries I saw on Eight Belles and Hillary Clinton tonight.

Violinist on the Sinking S.S. Clinton

Sun Feb 24, 2008 at 02:03:48 PM PDT

I play the violin on the SS Clinton. The passengers must be comforted by the music, a song called "We’ve Got Texas and Ohio in Our Hands." I will not abandoned ship even as the vessel sinks to the bottom of the sea. You might ask me, why I insist staying aboard on a boat doomed to break up under the ocean’s currents. Why, you are not even the captain (The odds my name is Hillary is quite slim, indeed!). Well, let me tell you why.

Some time ago, I listened to Hillary say (to paraphrase):

it takes parents, teachers, policemen, doctors, grocers, mechanics, plumbers... to raise a child. Indeed, it takes a village.

Intelligent Design and the Giant Man-Eating Chicken

Sat Apr 14, 2007 at 06:06:08 PM PDT

Molecular paleontologist John Asara of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School announced that genetic and protein studies of a female Tyrannosaurus rex indicates that the giant creature's DNA and soft tissue closely matches to that of a chicken's. The studies were conducted by two teams of scientists on soft tissue of the female T. Rex discovered in 2003 in Montana by Mary Higby Schweitzer of North Carolina State University.

My Identity Revealed!

Mon Apr 09, 2007 at 12:18:10 PM PDT

Hey you folks, my real name is George W. Bush. You might ask, am I the same dude as the decider living in the White House? Yeah, that's me folks. Ha, ha, ha, I guess you didn't see that coming. Just wanted to give liberty her side of the story. Need to refute, those terrorists you know, those terrorists that keep on saying support those Democrats. But anyway, please feel to ask me a few questions. I'll be happy to educate you about the great economic boom and our impending glorious victory in Iraq. So hail our revenge of September 11th.

Why Hillary Must Not Apologize

Wed Mar 21, 2007 at 12:40:11 PM PDT

Hillary must not apologize for her 2002 vote on Iraq. I say this unpopular statement even though I have always been anti-war. Moreover, I'm more likely to vote for Hillary if she does not apologize for her vote.

All Eras Come to an End: The Anne Frank Tree

Tue Nov 14, 2006 at 05:19:09 PM PDT

As solid as the earth seems, all eras, all life and all matter must come to an end. Even the earth will one day be engulfed by the sun when it inflates into a red giant. Last week we saw the end of the neo-con era. This week, the Amsterdam City Council announced that the Anne Frank Chestnut tree will have to be cut down due to a fungal infection. As Anne Frank wrote in her diary on Wednesday, February 23rd, 1944 (the 597th day of her imprisonment in the Annex, and the 3rd year, 9th month and 9th day of the German occupation of Holland):

The Beatles: A Netroots Concert

Sat Sep 16, 2006 at 03:12:33 PM PDT

The world is beginning to feel like the 60s again. Iraq is becoming like Vietnam and the government is spying on us again. Bush is the second coming of LBJ and Gonzalez seems a lot like J. Edgar Hoover. But there is one thing missing to bring back the 60s, the Beatles. So now, Ed Sullivan introduces you to the Beatles! And their first number is All My Loving.

DailyKos was AWOL on Welfare Reform

Wed Aug 23, 2006 at 01:00:33 PM PDT

Clarification: I do not intend to criticize you as individuals. Rather, as a group, I think we failed to respond to the Right Wing propaganda machine that we heard so much yesterday on Welfare Reform. I, of course, is in that group that failed to respond.
Yesterday was the tenth anniversary of Welfare Reform. While the media and politicians celebrated and hailed welfare reform as a resounding success, the DailyKos was eerily silent on this topic. Apparently, the DailyKos members agree that welfare reform is a resounding success and believe in the conservative frame that poverty is mostly the fault of the poor. But I argue that we can't declare welfare reform as a success until we know what's happening with the homeless population.

We're All Republicans Now: Young Liberals Don't Get It

Sun Jul 23, 2006 at 06:24:17 PM PDT

. A variety of liberalism shaped in the New Deal dominated politics and thought in the United States in the middle of the 20th century. Yet in the years since then a new, dynamic conservative movement emerged. At the beginning of the 21st century that movement appeared triumphant. Ostensibly liberal Democrats reason more like their conservative contemporaries than their liberal ancestors.

How and why did this transformation occur? What is the nature of modern American conservatism? How has it evolved over time? What are its social bases? What is its significance in U.S. and world history? -Quote from History Professor Ronald Schatz of Wesleyan College

Poll: The Best Liberal Film

Tue May 16, 2006 at 06:25:12 PM PDT

I was watching All Quiet on the Western Front the other night and couldn't help wonder how relevant this movie still is in this era of the Iraq War. The movie depicts how the German establishment at the outbreak of World War I goaded naïve young men to join the army in the name of nationalism. But the young soldiers' idealism in country was shattered by the horrors of war. One by one, the volunteer recruits saw their classmates get mowed down by machine gun fire or by bombs. Later I read that it was the first major anti-war film of the sound era. Then I kept asking myself a question that I want to ask you:

Question: What was the greatest liberal film of all time? What film moved your heart and reinforced good old fashion progressive values?  Was it a film that tackled bigotry, or was it a film that depicted the folly of war? I hope you will make comments on what your favorite liberal film was, and why it moved you.

Studies: Women Get More Votes Than Men

Tue May 09, 2006 at 08:43:08 PM PDT

A study by Political Scientists Richard Matland (University of Houston) and David King (Harvard University) show that female candidates get more votes than male candidates. The female advantage is particularly strong if she's a Republican. Contrary to popular belief, female Democrats may actually do better than male Democrats.  Another study on state legislature races conducted by Richard Seltzer (Howard University) and Jody Newman of the National Women's Political Caucus support Matland and King's conclusions.

The lesson of these studies is don't vote against Hillary Clinton because you don't think a woman can win a Presidential election. On the contrary, her gender may actually give her an advantage over other Democratic male candidates.  Moreover, Republicans can increase their numbers in Congress by nominating more female candidates.

Statistical Study: The Poor Vote Republican is Just GOP Propaganda

Wed May 03, 2006 at 04:53:11 PM PDT

I read so many bloggers asking the question "Why do the rich vote Democratic and the poor vote Republican?" They cite that the poorest states such as Kansas vote Republican and the rich states such as New York vote Democratic. But According to a statistical study, rich people vote Republican, poor people vote Democratic. But Republican propaganda makes most people think otherwise.

Here's the results of the study:
