In Texas, the Right Boots Up to Gain Strength Online

Consider that title for just a moment.  In George W Bush country, the RIGHT is trying to gain strength.  That's some shift in attitude down here in the Lone Star State.

Netroots Nation & GLBT Nightlife

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 09:25:45 AM PDT

If yo only knew how excited I am that NN is coming to Austin.  This year's convention is practically in my backyard.  Ok.  Maybe it's not exactly my back yard, but, being a native Texan and current Austin resident, it couldn't be any closer!  I just finished registering for NN this morning and thought I would  add to some of the already great diariesby some great Austinites and show you my own favorite spots in Austin, with some shout-outs to my fellow GLBT'ers.  (Don't worry, there's something for everyone here!)

Let Hillary Have Michigan Delegates

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 08:43:13 PM PDT

No.  Seriously.  Let's just get this over with and let Hillary have the delegates she won in Michigan.  I'm fairly certain that should once and for all let her have her little moment of "victory" and should then speed up the calls for her to drop out of the race.

Let's check the math below....

I am not Alberto R. Gonzalez (w/ Poll)

Sat Nov 03, 2007 at 12:44:44 PM PDT

Judge Mukasey is not Alberto R. Gonzales.

I am not Alberto R. Gonzalez either.  It is therefore my thought that I should approach President Bush with a great proposition.

It would seem that I am perfectly qualified to serve as Attorney General of the United States.  If he were to nominate me, the confirmation process should be a relatively easy process.  I know the meaning of torture and I respect the Constitution as much or more than the average college graduate.  That level of understanding is far greater than the understanding of our previous AG.

How are those new US Attorneys working out?

Fri Jun 15, 2007 at 08:54:56 AM PDT

Not so well, apparently.

I won't go into all of the other USA's that have gotten attention on this site, but I didn't want this one to go unnoticed.

Tim Griffin is a putz. (to put it mildly)

With the US Attorney scandal working itself out in the background, it looks like another one of those Rove appointees just can't handle the pressure.  Tim Griffin, Rove's replacement for Bud Cummins seat in eastern Arkansas, has found that public service is a little more difficult than he thought it would be.

The Right Wing and Westboro Baptist

Mon Apr 23, 2007 at 10:16:59 AM PDT

Mike Gallagher is a known name around here.  We've heard of his conservative rants on his radio program.  He's done this before, but now he's offering Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church air time on his radio show.  I think we should applaud and thank him (just this once).

No.  I haven't lost my mind.

GBCM (Good-bye Cruel Meta)

Sat Feb 10, 2007 at 04:35:56 PM PDT

I hardly know where to begin at this point.  I would guess I'm your average-joe reader around here and I'm tired of all the meta.

I've been reading this blog for over a year and I have always been impressed with the FP's and the "community" aspect of this place.  One of my favorite ways to kill some time was to run through the diaries and comment on things I found interesting, so just read through what other people thought was interesting enough to use a diary entry to discuss.

The last few weeks have been different.  I saw the FP post by kos about trimming down the blogroll and really didn't even give it a second thought.  No big deal.  Wow.  I was wrong.

Art imitating Life. (Warning: "24" spoiler alert)

Sun Jan 14, 2007 at 07:02:30 PM PDT

It's come up again and again.  Fox News = White House Spin Machine.  But what about Fox Network?  They have some of the most liberal shows out there.  I''m sitting here watching "24" and keep thinking about how much this show is just SKEWERING Republicans and their attack on freedoms.  But maybe that's just me.  Maybe Freepers are sitting there in their living rooms thinking "Hell yeah... arrest that Arab!"

More below the flip...  Tell me what you think.

Cheney takes one for the team. (Pizza and Coke w/Lime edition)

Mon Jan 08, 2007 at 09:56:57 PM PDT

Bill in Portland Maine has the day off today.  In his absence teeb does a great job of filling our Cheers & Jeers addiction.  A little line in today's cheap and generic C&J caught my eye.  It's a little interesting tidbit about Richard Cheney.

Optional Ready-to-Wear Reynold's Wrap Millinery: Negroponte is moved to State to free up Rice to take over as VP when Cheney is forced to resign for "medical reasons" (a bad case of cardio-subpoena syndrome).

We all know (or at least assume) that Cheney is not really human.  So why exit stage-left for "medical reasons," a typically human reason?  There are a number of reasons.  As far back as April, there have been reports of Republicans calling for replacing Cheney with Condi.

What's it all mean?  Follow me below for some good ol' fashion hypothesizing.  (Grab me a cold coke out of the fridge too, please.)

A little more Holiday meta. Thanks to all of you! (w/ poll)

Wed Nov 22, 2006 at 02:45:32 PM PDT

As you can imagine, Thanksgiving can be a stressful time for the person preparing the traditional meal.  Don't forget to give thanks to that person and compliment their hard work.

I think the primary reason for this diary is to express my appreciation to the DKos community.  A short 2 years ago, I really didn't follow politics.  Now it is my reason for getting up in the morning.  I feel like a much more responsible citizen now that I am informed and active.  I see so much more of what happens in our government and the repercussions it has both at home and abroad.

Thanks below the fold.....

The Thanksgiving Holidays. Any interesting traditions/recipes?

Tue Nov 21, 2006 at 12:24:19 PM PDT

Hi DKos community!

I have a high user ID, but I am here every day, multiple times a day.  There have been a rash of poll diaries today, so I thought I'd jump in with one of my own.

Thanksgiving is less than 48 hours away.  If you're like me, you're still not sure just what exactly you're going to serve for dinner.  A turkey of course, but what else?!

Anyone out there have any unusual Thanksgivign Day traditions?  things other than dinner, football, and a nap?

Update:  Any good holiday recipes?  (unless you want to save them for troll diaries. lol)

Pack your bags and move.... to AZ?

Thu Sep 28, 2006 at 03:05:28 PM PDT

There's been a lot of dissent around this place regarding the torture bill.  Emotions have run high, with some stating their willingness to leave the party, and other front-pagers taking them out to the woodshed for such a defeatist attitude.  A diary on the rec. list this afternoon caught my eye.  The New York Time Obituary for our fair country.

In the comments, there was the fair amount of "our country isn't dead.. just wounded" sentiments, but sadly, yes, our nation is gone.  We've allowed Congress to destroy our moral standing in the world.  The bright beacon of humanity, hope, and fairness that was the United States of America has been extinguished.

Now what?  Make the jump....

Please pop that bubble!

Wed Aug 16, 2006 at 09:02:31 PM PDT

(Cross posted at my 4 day old blog that no one ever reads.) I orginally intended this to be the snarkiest diary entry EVER, but I realized three sentences in that that was not going to be possible.  This really isn't funny and is deserving of some real attention (for at least 15 minutes before it scrolls off the page).

BubbleBoy , as our current President has been dubbed, showed just how insulated he can be from the reality based world.  I'm writing to beg, yes beg, for someone to call this man out on the absolute disaster this man is making of our country.  I truly feel that if the country does "stay the course," it will take a nuclear bunker-buster, lobbed from some a nuclear power, to bring this man out of his bubble.

Honestly, I'd prefer if we rationally got GWB out of his bubble before China decides to incinerate his bubble and everything in the surrounding area.

This is how rumors get started. (About Leiberman)

Fri Aug 04, 2006 at 08:02:10 PM PDT

I don't claim to know insiders that have "leaked" this information to me.  I'm not a political expert (I've only been reading the blogs for a couple of months).  I'm not good friends with anyone in politics.  I just thought it'd be fun to start a little bit of a rumor.

Wait.  I take that back.  That rumor has already been floated out on the internet.  I'm just seeing if I can keep it going.

In all seriousness, I haven't seen anyone else blog this particular evolution of the rumor, so I decided I'd throw it out there and open it up for troll rating as people see fit.  (Yes.  I said evolution.  It's science.  Believe in it!)

See ya on the flip....

Why a Texan cares about Ned Lamont, and the lesson for everyone else.

Sat Jun 17, 2006 at 08:57:54 PM PDT

I'm sitting in the comfort of my Austin home on a Satruday night with nothing much to do.  I know, this is shocking for all of my friends.  I'm a young, single, fairly attracive gay man in Austin, TX and I'm not out getting hammered at the bar with 500 of my closest friends  (did I mention single?).  Instead, I'm sitting at home, writing my first dKos diary.  Please, be nice to me.

Being a regular reader here for a few months, I have immersed myself in current politics.  I wish I had gone to YK, but alas had other plans (that I should have broken, but that's another topic).

The CT Senatorial race should be pretty far removed from my immediate field of vision, but it's not.  I've even opened up the pursestrings for the first time to contribute to a campaing for someone who I will not even be able to vote for:  Ned Lamont.
