Glengarry Glenn Stupid- The Conversion of David Mamet

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 04:01:16 AM PDT

David Mamet wrote of his transition from 'braindead liberal' to apparently 'more braindead conservative' in the Village Voice.  His transition is being lauded in the Comments section of the Village Voice online for his enlightenment by the online conservatives, and Drudge has a link to it.  I'm sure he'll get plenty of invites to Dick Cheney's ranch now, and he seems quite pleased with himself now.  No big loss for the progressive side.

But so much of what he says is misguided, or misleading.  More after....

Shame on Rep. Louise Slaughter- Sirius/ XM deal

Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 04:34:17 PM PDT

It is so sad that Rep. Louise Slaughter-- so good on so many issues-- is one of our elected representatives who are beholden to the National Association of Broadcasters and their monopoly on radio.  She is one of the people blocking the Sirius XM merger.  And of course, Clear Channel (and their homeboy Mitt Romney, who is a partner of theirs, I understand from an Air America report) is lovin' this.

These guys took ONE meeting to approve of Exxon Mobil's disastrous monopoly-- but because they are bought and sold by terrestrial radio-- they are holding up a deal that benefits consumers and employees and stockholders of Sirius/XM??

We need to fire it up.  This talk of a monopoly is b.s.   Progressive voters should demand our progressive leaders do what's best for the economy, for CONSUMERS, and not for their campaign funds.

After the jump, some info from Jim Cramer (who has annoyed me in the past, but he's right about this:

Are Bush 'countdowns' helpful to our psyche?

Thu Feb 07, 2008 at 12:18:20 AM PDT

I just saw on the front page the 'countdown' to a White House free from the stench of George W. Bush's disastrous leadership.  I'm reminded that we have a little less than 347 days until he's replaced by someone more capable (my personal hope is Mr. Obama, but I'm prepared to support either frontrunner).

My question is, does it do you any good to be reminded of the days Bush has left?  I think it has some entertainment value, but only for a moment, and then I find myself sort of obsessing about that chunk of time.  A countdown doesn't make the time pass any quicker, much like staring at the clock in Algebra class didn't make the end of the period arrive sooner.

More after the jump......

Jews for Jimmy

Wed Dec 13, 2006 at 07:02:24 PM PDT

I heard Jimmy Carter, the greatest ex-president we've had since John Quincy Adams, on Warren Olney's terrific radio show on NPR today.   It boggles my mind that he is being accused of anti-semitism by certain organizations and certain high profile Jews in this country.

As a Jewish male, I feel it's high time that any Jew,  who understands that current Israeli policies are unworkable and dangerous, stand up and support President Carter, and shout over the false charges of Anti-Semitism that plague the Israeli/Palestine debate in this country.  We must defend Jimmy.

C-SPAN debate on Lamont v. Lieberman-- I was called an anti-semite even though...

Sun Jul 09, 2006 at 06:48:14 AM PDT

...I'm Jewish.  I guess only pro-Lieberman, Beltway elites can debate Lieberman's support of the Iraqi invasion/occupation as being linked to his security concerns for Israel.  That would exclude me.

As I couldn't sleep last night (and still can't), I tuned into C-SPAN's Washington Journal, pleased to find Katrina Vanden Heuvel set to debate a former Clinton special counsel, a talkative fellow whose last name is Davis.

Mr. Davis couldn't have been more obnoxiously pro-Lieberman if he was on Joe's payroll, often interrupting callers or dismissing them as "liars" or "bigots" when they didn't serve his purpose of selling Joe as a progressive Democrat.  Anyway, after touting Joe's 'liberal' credentials and his support from Planned Parenthood, the AFL-CIO, and all the other usual incumbent-supporting interest groups...
