NPR's Scott Simon is a Big Fat Coward

Thu Jul 24, 2008 at 10:50:10 AM PDT

It's one thing for NPR's Scott Simon wrongly to scold Senator Barack Obama for supposedly accusing Senator John McCain of planning to inject race into the Presidential campaign (Obama actually said the "Republicans" would do so - the whole thing was ably diaried here and here).

But apparently Mr. Simon wasn't willing to give equal time - or any time - to those who took issue with his characterization.

No, I will NOT remove my hat

Fri May 30, 2008 at 10:52:06 AM PDT

There are exactly two songs for which I will remove my hat:  my college alma mater, and the National Anthem.

"God Bless America" is neither, despite what the Washington Nationals apparently believe.

Big Shock: More Conservative Radio Nonsense

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 11:31:47 AM PDT

Generally, I enjoy James Lileks, the only conservative blogger I read regularly.  He's several degrees to the right of me politically, but we're about the same age, both raised in the more-or-less rural Midwest, share the same cultural referents, and are geeky in many of the same ways.

But some days he just pisses me off.  Today was one of them.

Why can't you writers be like Mary (and Santa)?

Sat Dec 22, 2007 at 08:00:30 AM PDT

The AMPTP asks (okay, actually it's some of the writers channeling the AMPTP) why the WGA has lost sight of the true spirit of charity and giving that exemplifies this holiday season:

Broadcasters: We'll decide when to be government shills, thank you very much!

Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 06:24:04 AM PDT

In recent days broadcasters have taken issue with the idea, floated in a proposed order by the Federal Communications Commission, that they be compelled to run public service announcements (PSAs) educating consumers about the February 2009 transition from analog to digital television.  Fox's comments are typical in this regard, arguing among other things that "[s]uch compelled speech is inconsistent with broadcasters' First Amendment rights."

WaPo: Hastert to Resign "Soon"

This will no doubt be covered in more depth later, but my boss just sent me the link:

Hastert to Resign Soon.

Thoughts under the flip.

Cub Love:  Un-American?

Wed Oct 03, 2007 at 01:20:51 PM PDT

At the risk of being troll-rated by our eponymous host, I’m using my first diary to put forth, succinctly, the following proposition:

Rooting for the Chicago cubs is not only stupid, it’s un-American.

Why?  Follow me below the fold:
