The first results (partial and unofficial) in the race for mayor of Anchorage show Suzanne LaFrance with a good lead. She has served on the Assembly and focused on good government at the local level.
The incumbent, Bronson, is IMHO an incompetent fool, who brazenly ignored procurement processes for spending, disregarded clear qualifications required for appointments (such as head of libraries, where code says the head needs to be a certified librarian), etc. And he didnʼt manage the huge demands for snow removal this winter at all well.
(ok, having stated my opinion, hereʼs some reporting from the Alaska Beacon, my stateʼs “part of States Newsroom, the nation’s largest state-focused nonprofit news organization”, which publishes under Creative Commons license CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 .)
Partial, unofficial election night results Tuesday show the former Anchorage Assembly chair leading Bronson by 9.8%.
Bronson and his campaign leaned into their political differences. “I’m normal. She’s woke,” he said at a candidate debate in April. He later explained that to him, wokeness is an unhealthy political ideology of the far left.
LaFrance’s campaign emphasized that most local issues are apolitical.
P.S. I wrote this because I couldnʼt the promised followup:

Anchorage is still to come tonight (well, actually, early tomorrow morning), but with the likelihood that the votes will not be fully tallied until tomorrow, you can check back with Daily Kos Elections then for all the details.
