Lots of talk among those who lose an election about secession. Let’s say it’s not secession, but a unanimous agreement to go our 3 separate ways.
Above I have divided the USA into 3 countries basically along the lines of who the voted for President in 2020.
The West is all Biden states (Hawaii to the West) (my thought is the capital would be Sacramento, CA).
The Middle/Southern is all Trump states except Georgia (Alaska goes here) (my though is the capitol would be Austin, TX).
The Northeast is all Biden states except Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia (My thought is the capital would stay Washington, DC)
A pretty fair split I think.
Now to the hard part.
Even if we all agreed to split how would we answer these questions:
1. Who would get the codes to and possession of our nuclear weapons? I’m in the Northeast and really don’t want to give nuclear weapons to another country.
2. Who would get our aircraft carriers? Where would any of or military equipment go?
3. Would each new country still be a party to all the treaties the USA was a party?
4. Who would get the Social Security Trust Fund and Medicare funds?
5. What about those who live in the Northeast, but now own homes or property in the Middle/South or West...would they get compensation? Unlimited right to travel? Freedom for excessive taxation?
6. What law would apply? Would it start totally new or would you adopt the precedents of SCOTUS?
7. What about federally insured student loans and mortgages…Would the new nations assume the role of guarantor?
8. Our nations owes over $27 billion in national debt. How would that be distributed?
9. Would you have a new Constitution or just adopt our current one?
10. Who would get our territories like Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands?
11.Who would make payments to our Veterans, Supplemental Security Income recipients, Social Security Disability recipients, SNAP recipients, Section 8 housing recipients, etc…
12. How would securities traded on Wall Street be handled? What about ownership of state and municipal bonds by out of country residents?
Anyway...I just want to suggest that even if we all wanted to go our separate ways I do not think we can...We better recognize we are one nation and start to work together….
So anxious to read your thoughts.
