In the interest of disclosure, let me start off by saying I am in the Team Warren camp, and I hope that doesn’t prevent you from reading on. After the most recent polls, I posted that reading them feels like watching a game of musical chairs. I think it’s a good thing. People are engaged, listening to the debates and open to changing their mind.
Aside from the next statement, I will say nothing negative about other candidates. Senator Klobuchar was on a morning show after a debate and she sounded deerisive to me when she said, “I’m not a rock star.” I believe she was responding to the enthusiasm at the time for my candidate, Senator Warren.
Rock Star was the Republicans term of derision for then-Senator Obama. Well, guess what? People like Rock Stars! They come out to see them. I’m jazzed that the Democratic candidate’s fundraising has outpaced Trump’s in the last quarter. I’m not worried about electability, I’m worried about excitement.
Anyone of these candidates WILL beat Trump as long as they can inspire us to get out and vote for them. Voting against Trump is not enough. It is for me, and it probably is for you. I think everyone on this site is a “Vote Blue No Matter Who” voter. But more people voted in 2012 than did in 2016 and there were MORE eligible voters in 2016! I partially blame voter ID laws, whether they were in effect or not they had an effect in EVERY STATE!
I live in New York. You sign and you vote. People on line in front of me had their ID’s out. So maybe some people didn’t know whether or not they could vote. Many were purged from the rolls just like Georgia and Wisconsin are doing now (just to name 2).
We need to get everyone excited to vote in November. I credit the 2018 gains with local candidates doing just that- speaking to their constituents about the things that affect them every day, and they got excited and voted. It was one of the greatest turn-outs in a midterm election in decades.
So here’s the thing, whoever emerges as our nominee is a ROCK STAR! Our nomination speech should be held in the Football Stadium like President Obama (was it Colorado?) and let’s pack it. After the convention, we should have all surrogates looking for the biggest arenas, let’s fill the seats.
I don’t know about you, but I get excited when I dream of what America can be if we unleash the power of Blue. All the ideas that turned us from the Depression to building our great middle class are ideas that only WE embrace- we did it before we can do it again! America responds to a challenge by embracing it (“We do not go to the moon because it is easy we do it because it is hard!”).
Republicans always call their nominee the Greatest- Listen to how they talk about Trump- his incoherent speech about killing Soleimani was like Reagan’s “Tear Down that Wall” speech according to Leningrad Lindsey. Our nominee is the greatest nominee the world has ever seen, a savior to restore sanity to America and cure the fascism that is infecting democracies around the world.
