I find these people far more sinister than the corrupt political operatives propagating the same propaganda because they couch it in terms that they are only “following orders” of an omnipotent being. By definition, in the theocracy they want to establish here, there is only “ONE WAY” everyone else is a heretic and Enemy of the State.
Pat Robertson, Franklin Graham. Kenneth Copeland et al and their affiliated CASH COWS masquerading as TAX FREE “churches” have been aiding and abetting republican disinformation in many ways but most dangerously by amplifying t.rump SLANDER about the election.
Their attacks range from their usual demonization of “the left” — “antifa” “BLM” “Biden” — to falsely reporting on corporations like Dominion and Smartmatic as agents of a “democrat coup”. Unsurprisingly they are unapologetically persisting in stirring anti-American sentiment even after the almost MASS MURDER of duly elected officials carrying out their Constitutional Duties on Jan 6.
Pat Robertson has been openly praying on his 700 club program for an overturn of a fair and free election because he says “God told him t.rump should be the president” www.newsweek.com/.... He believed, like the terrorists who stormed the Capital, a MIRACLE would occur on Jan 6 and American Democracy would be toppled — in Jesus Name, of course.
In Light of the Johnson Amendment, which t.rump has actively tried to repeal www.theatlantic.com/..., how do they retain their “TAX FREE” Status while being a propaganda arm for a radicalized right wing??
The Johnson Amendment is a provision in the U.S. tax code, since 1954, that prohibits all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates.
What seems the obvious answer is the IRS simply does not enforce the rules when it comes to christian organizations. The question is "why not" and what can we do about it?
Congress of course writes the tax laws not the IRS. It appears the tax laws and regulations that govern churches and religious organizations are purposely broad and often vague. Congress actively keeps it that way particularly supporting christian churches' flagrant abuses of their tax free status. Revenue Ruling 70-549 is a great example of how Congressional pressure keeps the IRS from enforcing tax law when religious organizations are involved.
I personally do not believe any congress, but particularity a Democratic one because of “optics”, is going to do anything to address these abuses.
“God” does not appear to be intervening either ; ) as they ruthlessly break his Ninth Commandment, so what can we do?
Boycotts against corporations who buy TV ads could be effective against entities like Fox and OAN but would not work here. As far as I am aware their revenue streams are primarily from donations and selling “branded” products. I guess we could try to find out what corporations/manufacturers are donors/ suppliers and out them.
We could push to have their twitter accounts / youtube vids etc that have/ continue to spread election lies and othe right wing propaganda treated the same way the other insurrectionists’ communications have been.
I would hope that people like Pat Robertson and his “church” who specifically spread slander about Dominion and Smartmatic are added to their lawsuits against t.rump et al.
Anyone else have suggestions on how to tamp down this particularly virulent strain of One Party Under Their God rule?
