It struck me when listening to questioning of Brett Kavanaugh, that he was asked a string of questions by the GOP’s surrogate female (Rachel Mitchell, Staff Counsel) that sought to reinforce his denials that the alleged incident did not happen.

Here’s the problem: Nearly every question posed to Kavanaugh referred to the accuser/victim as “Dr. Ford”.

It struck me that this may have been a deliberate and calculated way to allow him to emphatically deny, because at the time of the incident, she was not “Dr. Ford”.

MITCHELL: Dr. Ford described an incident where she was alone in a room with you and Mark Judge. Have you ever been alone in a room with Dr. Ford and Mark Judge?

KAVANAUGH: No.

MITCHELL: Dr. Ford described an incident where you were grinding your genitals on her. Have you ever ground or rubbed your genitals against Dr. Ford?

KAVANAUGH: No.

MITCHELL: Dr. Ford described an incident where you covered her mouth with your hand. Have you ever covered Dr. Ford’s mouth with your hand?

KAVANAUGH: No.

MITCHELL: Dr. Ford described an incident where you tried to remove her clothes. Have you ever tried to remove her clothes?

KAVANAUGH: No.

MITCHELL: Referring back to the definition of sexual behavior that I have given you, have you ever, at any time, engaged in sexual behavior with Dr. Ford?

KAVANAUGH: No.

MITCHELL: Have you ever engaged in sexual behavior with Dr. Ford, even if it was consensual?

KAVANAUGH: No.

Georgetown University will name its newest building after the former Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri, who was assasinated in 2005 when a massive amount of explosives was detonated near his motorcade. Twenty-one others died as a result. The backlash from the killing led to the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon

A guy with whom I worked on a large government contract a few years back and I have corresponded over the time since, each taking polar positions on the political spectrum. He's a former special ops guy, now working for something like the 4th time as a security contractor in Iraq. A lot of his multiple recipient emails use damning language to describe the efforts of us progressives to end the (unjust and illegal) war.

I just received an email from him that had a letter from an anonymous special forces soldier, who, in recounting the deaths of two Navy SEALS who were killed on a mission, has some dead-ender language to describe not terrorists, but us.

Below the fold is that letter, without comment, placed here to generate reaction and comment. I understand that Green Berets have reasons to keep their identities secret, but even though I received this from a former Green Beret, my Snopes detector is tingling.

A former colleague who is ex-military and who has spent many months in Iraq doing contract security work sent this link.

It is an 11-question quiz designed to let you know whom you SHOULD vote for for president in 2008.

I'm leaning strong towards Edwards and the results surprised me a bit, but because of the lack of nuance in the up/down, black/white, for/against nature of the questions and choices for answers, I'm not surprised.

There also is no way to factor in such things as a voter's opposition to the idea of political dynasties, the gulf between a candidate's beliefs and his/her actual voting record, and a way to verify the pro/con positions ascribed to the top contenders.

Right on the heels of the march from the White House to the Capitol comes this event which will reverse the route from 2 weeks ago – this one going from the Capitol to the White House.

The "event" is actually a week-long lead-up to the march, starting with an encampment on the West lawn of the Capitol this past weekend, erecting a giant billboard telling Congress to stop funding the war, activism, rally, and a live concert.

This one came to me this morning from a retired Special Forces guy - a guy who told me back in '02, "I didn't vote for Bush. I voted for the people he has on his team." He still is a true believer. An Afgan war vet, a mercernary, a contractor who has gone to Iraq several times, now.

UPDATE: Can you help me, please by RECOMMENDING this diary?

I missed the Kossack Kontingent gathering at Starbucks, because I had to attend my son's basketball game.

When I got off the Metro at L'Enfant Plaza and started walking toward the mall, I gave Rena a call to find out where to meet up. Folks were split up in smaller groups around the mall and the plan was to meet at quarter til 1pm at the corner of 7th and Madison, then head towards the march start point shortly afterwards.

A very creative home owner on the main thoroughfare in Falls Church, VA (a very blue city) created this Halloween display, which gave me a wonderful opportunity to explain to my 4-year-old why George Allen is "Very Scary". Now he points it out every time we drive by, which is what I was doing when I took this shot this morning:

I admit it. I'm a bit of a pedant. And, it has caused some friction in my life.

I went to Catholic elementary school overseas and had grammar, spelling, and punctuation beat (sometimes literally) into me. Even then, I won most spelling bees in school.

I then transitioned to public school here in Northern Virginia - some of the finest schools in the country, as statistics would tell you. But, my classmates were considerably behind in those skills. Still, teachers appeared to make an effort to help them improve.

Photo Diary: IMPEACH V.3.0

I had three pre-painted 5-foot signs burning a hole in my trunk, so I decided to slap them up last night for the benefit of Northern Virginia commuters and their morning commutes.

Two were deployed inside the Capital Beltway on Interstate 66 at Great Falls Street - one for eastbound traffic and one for westbound traffic.

The third was a new idea - attach it to a different kind of barrier and on a non-interstate artery. This one went over Rt. 50 (Arlington Boulevard) at 7 Corners in Falls Church.

All three were standing at noon today, so all morning commuters traveling in those locations saw them, presumably. By 1pm, the Rt. 50 one had been violently ripped down. That's the nature of freeway blogging - ephemeral.
