This is, of course, the internet. That means people can say they are whoever they want to say they are. Many people are telling the truth, many others are not, and none of us really knows the difference.

I will tell you, honestly, that I am 40, I am female, and I have been a liberal as long as I can remember. Believe me or not, it makes no difference to me. I was 10 years old when Reagan was elected, and I remember crying. I also remember finding it a mighty strange coincidence that the Iran hostages were released right after he was sworn in. It didn’t seem right, even to my 10-year old brain.

Here at the Kos, we are all about electing more and better Democrats. That is a fine goal, but it does not address an underlying problem: To elect better Democrats, we need to win over more voters to our point of view, and more importantly get them to vote.

For too long, the Republicans have co-opted the language of patriotism, and made it synonymous with the language of conservative politics. For too long, Republicans have smeared the lines so much that they make it sound as if freedom for business to exploit workers is really freedom for individuals. For too long, Republicans have turned "taxes" into a dirty word.

If we want to elect more and better Democrats, we need to start fighting back.

I have seen a disturbing trend recently that is really bothering me.

Some people on this site and elsewhere have been increasingly alarmed by the circular firing squad and constant criticism of the President and Congress by progressive bloggers and progressive opinion-oriented news hosts.

The response by those being critical is that it is not the fault of the bloggers and commentators that the base is disengaged.

If progressive blogs and opinion shows are not trying to form public opinion, then why exactly do they even exist?

I write this with a heavy heart.

In the entire (four decades or six years or three months) that I have followed politics, I have never been so disappointed with a president as I am with you. I am quite sure that (Lincoln or FDR or LBJ) would never have had these problems. He was a man whose (strength of character or strategical brilliance or inherent toughness) allowed him to get what he wanted. Unlike you, you spineless twit.

I'm pretty new here, so my apologies if this has been covered. I haven't seen it, though. This gave me pause:

"We're past campaign mode: I think it's important for everyone to get some form of health care," Brown told a news conference Wednesday morning. "So to offer a basic plan for everybody I think is important. It's just a question of whether we're going to raise taxes, we're going to cut a half at trillion from Medicare, we're going to affect veterans' care. I think we can do it better."

"We have 98 percent of our people insured here," he said at another point. "We know what we need to fix it."
