Tonight on CNN's Captiol Gang program Robert Novak compared Democratic filibusters of George W. Bush's judicial nominees to the holocaust. Link:

Because the whole system (INAUDIBLE) you're not going to have -- like going to a concentration camp and picking out which people go to the death chamber. You're not going to let the Democrats do that, say, We're going to -- we're going to confirm this person, we're not going to confirm the other person. They're going to -- they're going to say that this is not the way we're going to do it. They've had all kinds of different offers of that kind.

(emphasis added) Novak's comments follow Pat Buchanan's column this week about how World War II was not worth fighting, and a Wal-Mart ad that compared Wal-Mart opponents to Nazis.

It is once again time for the NCAA Tournament. Yahoo has a contest that allows users to fill out a bracket and compete against people all around the country. They also let you create groups that allow you to compare your picks with those of friends and acquaintances.

Last a couple of Kossacks set up groups, and it was alot of fun. I have just set one up for this year.

CBS Evening News tonight: Media Whoredom at its worst

Tonight on CBS Evening News, they ran a story about Chile's private pension program. The piece was titled "Success Story" and mainly talked about how great the system is. They talked to some "guy on the street" who said he liked the system, but they never bothered to find out how much he would have made if Chile had kept a government system. They also talked to Jose Pinera, who was Chile's labor minister when the system was put in place. They never mentioned that he works for the CATO Institute.

When they discussed "critics" of the plan, they only talked about how half of the people in Chile are seasonal workers and are therefore not in the system. That is not the main criticism of Chile's privatized pension plan

Over the past few weeks, two Democratic governors have formed a new working group. Their goal: help ensure that Tom Delay's Republicans retain power in congress for the rest of the decade: Link

While both candidates are on record in favor of redistricting, Crowley has been offering slightly more energetic support, Democratic aides said. Schakowsky may need to walk a finer line because Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) appears to be lukewarm to the idea.

Two years ago, when some Democrats were encouraging Richardson to bring up redistricting in a special legislative session, he declined, saying it would be "very divisive." [...]

Another Democratic governor, Illinois's Rod Blagojevich, is up for re-election in 2006 and may not want the distraction of redistricting.

Apparently, Blagojevich and Richardson have no problems with a corrupt U.S. House that is at war with working Americans. As long as these two men are able to avoid "very partisan" fights over redistricting, lower and middle-class Americans and their fellow Democrats can go fuck themselves.

This Washington Post article discusses the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It mentions many of the Chamber's accomplishments such as helping to repeal ergonomics regulations that would have helped millions of workers and helping to repeal the Bush tax cuts for the rich.

This year the Chamber will target Social Security and class action lawsuits which compensate working Americans when they are screwed over by corporations.

Obviously, the U.S. Chamber is one of Bush's best friends. And guess who is also a good friend of the Chamber?

The chamber has hired the Swiss Guard of paid consultants from both political parties. Several showed up at a recent dinner hosted by Donohue at the chamber, including Al From, chief executive of the Democratic Leadership Council...

Obviously, the U.S. Chamber is waging a war on working Americans and every value Democrats should stand for. No individual or organization that cares about the working people of this country would have anything to do with these scumbags.

Bush and USA Today Mislead About Thrift Savings Plan

In the SOTU address, Bush used the Thrift Savings Plan available to federal employees as an example and model for his proposed private Social Security accounts:

Personal retirement accounts should be familiar to federal employees, because you already have something similar, called the Thrift Savings Plan, which lets workers deposit a portion of their paychecks into any of five different broadly-based investment funds. It's time to extend the same security, and choice, and ownership to young Americans.

Unfortunately, this claim is being repeated in today's edition of USA Today:

But here is what Bush and USA Today did not tell you: The point of the Thrift Savings Plan is to supplement and not replace federal employees' pension and social security income. Kos, Atrios, and many others have picked the wrong target.

There is a supposedly Democratic Senator who also voted for the Iraq war and praised Rice more profusely than Lieberman. But, unlike Lieberman this Senator from a heavily Democratic state has time and time again sold out working Americans.

The two most important pieces of domestic legislation from Bush's first term were the first tax cut and the Medicare bill (aka the Pharma and HMO Protection Act of 2003). Dianne Feinstein supported both. Joe Lieberman opposed both.

I generally support Democratic positions on foreign policy issues, but I am a Democrat mainly because of the party's stances on domestic issues. When an elected official votes for massive tax cuts for the rich while thirty million Americans go without health care and votes with the HMO's and Pharma instead of America's seniors, he or she is no longer a Democrat.

If we are going to have a purge, Dianne Feinstein should be the first to go.

My Big Idea: Run For Office

Many conservatives at every level of government face no opposition at all when they run for reelection. Many U.S. House, state legislature, city council, and school board seats are uncontested every election cycle. The best way to challenge the regressives directly is to actually run against right-wing officeholders at all levels of government. Unfortunately, many who could run for office have no idea how. And those that attempt to run are given little guidance about how to run an agressive, effective campaign.

Earlier this year, I did a survey of every state Democratic Party website. Not a single state party site had information for those interested in running for office. This is unconscionable and I have a feeling that this will not change. If they will not help progressives who wish to run for office and change their city, county, state, and country then we will. I am convinced that progressive activists need to build a website and a community that will provide prospective and current candidates with information about how to run for office. Read More

A UK tabloid is the first newspaper to provide details of Kitty Kelley's upcoming book on the Bush family: Link

GEORGE W Bush snorted cocaine at Camp David, a new book claims.

His wife Laura also allegedly tried cannabis in her youth.

Author Kitty Kelley says in her biography The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty, that the US President first used coke at university in the mid-1960s.

She quotes his former sister-in-law Sharon Bush who claims: "Bush did coke at Camp David when his father was President, and not just once either."

This must be what Atrios was referring to yesterday.

Kelley's book will be released on September 14.

Today on the Chris Matthews Show, in a discussion about the campaign, BBC Washington Correspondent Katty Kay said that the Iraq issue would not hurt Bush because although people are still dying in Iraq, the people dying are not Americans. I wish she would tell that to the family of Seaman Eric Knott or Lance Cpl. Nicholas Perez and Capt. Alan Rowe.

But the disturbing thing isn't so much this blatant lie, it is the fact that neither Tweetie or the other whores on his panel (Maureen Dowd, Paul Gigot, Sam Donaldson) corrected this disgusting statement.

I have never been so outraged by a statement made on one of these talking-head shows. It represented everything that is wrong with this country. Young Americans are getting killed every day and the fucking media has ignored it for the past two months.

If you plan on eating lunch in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma this week, please make sure that you are not sitting near any windows: Link

The abortion controversy is hitting a little too close to home for some Oklahomans. Tuesday, trucks carrying graphic anti-abortion billboards were seen making the rounds in downtown here, stirring up plenty of emotion on both sides of the issue.
That anti-abortion message shows pictures of aborted human embryos and fetuses in a push to sway voters heading to the polls in November.

"They shouldn't be allowed to display that graphic picture on the trucks over and over downtown while I'm going to lunch," said Christy Mueller, who supports the right to an abortion.
So far, the pictures have accomplished what Bill Calvin and the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, or CBR, set out to do which is evoke emotion. But they're also trying to influence this year's elections, specifically the U.S. Senate race between former congressman Tom Coburn and Congressman Brad Carson.

This brings back some memories. In 1992 some nut ran an ad with a bunch of aborted fetuses during a Braves game on July Fourth weekend. It was a day game and I was eating lunch at the time. Fortunately, I think the guy lost his primary race.
