First a nod to Adam B's diary, Stop the Meta and Get to Work.

When you go to an actual job, there is a boss/manager/supervisor telling you what to do. But when a blogger admonishes you to do something, the natural question is: "Do what?" The beauty of this wonderful series of tubes is that we can all do our own thing. The problem is that unorganized activity can be more of a liability than an asset in politics.

I know you all want to think for yourselves, question authority, do your own thing, be independent, maybe blow up parliament, and fight like hell to build a liberal paradise.

I'm here to tell you the world doesn't work that way.

A few days ago, I had a Top Comment. {*nearly pulls a muscle patting himself on the back.}

I want to expand on those thoughts a bit. This will probably reopen some meta fights and earn me a few detractors. Well have at it. You are welcome to your opinions, even if they are wrong.

May Ceiling Cat smite my enemies and Basement Cat subject them to as many torments as the number of hairs a pootie sheds in a life time.

This sucks. This is an update to my recent post titled DC voting rights back on the table.

Well its back off the table thanks to a bunch of Republican assclowns who aren't even from the city trying to flood the streets with guns. Never mind the safety of the citizens of the city. These people see no justification for commonsense local exceptions to violate the broadest possible reading of the Second Amendment.

Never mind that we allow commonsense exceptions to the freedom of speech.

The US Justice Department filed an injunction against the country's two leading newspapers to force them to stop publication of "top secret" documents and has charged two men with theft and espionage that could lead to life sentences.

No, this is not the story of Thomas Drake, who stands accused of passing classified documents to a newspaper (presumably the Baltimore Sun), shredding documents, deleting computer files, and lying to investigators.

This is an eerily similar story.

The District of Columbia is home to about 600,000 people, which is more than the entire state of Wyoming. According to their respective Wikipedia entries, DC has 599,657 people living in 68.3 square miles. There would be more people had the 1846 retrocession of Alexandria not happened. In contrast, 544,270 people live in Wyoming's 97,818 square miles.

Under the constitution, Wyoming gets two Senators and one Representative in Congress. The District of Columbia, on the other hand, gets only one non-voting delegate.

That might finally change after more than a year delay.

Two programing notes. First this column might not appear everyday next week. I have my comprehensive exams, which determine whether or not it was worth it to drop 40 grand on my masters degree.

Second, I actually filled out a bracket and it is already shot to hell. I just found another reason to despise Georgetown. As a Democrat I should have went with more underdogs.
