Mike Gravel of Alaska for President. Opinions?

I'm sure you've all heard that former US senator from Alaska Mike Gravel has decided to run for president in 2008. So far in reading about his life and career I think he could be a decent candidate. He has a certain badass factor to him ala Brian Schweitzer (hell, his last name is Gravel for christsakes) but with a lot more Washington experience. He has lefty and at times wacky politics, but they tend to be populist. For instance he supports the idea of having ballot initiatives (which I consider to be the unholy curse of the west) on the national level and dissolving the electoral college (which I agree with). He's a national transit advocate too which I enjoy. Anyway, he seems to be the type of candidate that could get elceted on his gravitas despite his politics. What do you all think? I doubt he will even be a serious consideration in the primary, but do you think he could be a dark horse?

This is pretty breaking news.

I hope that this doesn't turn into another Iran Hostage situation. Though, it seems like the hostage takers are more or less surrounded, thus preventing that from happening. Some Links:

UPDATE: The most current sources say the hostage number is 18, no word on their nationality or the demands of the hostage takers. It would be safe to assume the vast majority if not all are American given that it's our embassy. Four dead so far.

The building fire has grown and 200 US and Suadi Forces have the compund surrounded. Carol Kalin, the embassy spokeperson delivers this gem of information: "there has been an attack on the US consulate in Jeddah" thanks Carol!

Oregon: ACLU Drops Gay Marriage Suit. (and it's a good thing)

The ACLU decided to give up on it's suit and lobbying for gay marriage to return to the Beaver state.
They're going to focus on helping me and my fellow gay-Oregonians obtain legal civil unions. This adds to my theory that, in Oregon, civil unions are inevitable.

As I said in my post before. After a a decade or so of civil unions, a initiative will be passed to remove the the anti gay language from the constitution. It'll be termed a house keeping measure and will pass by a land slide. I have a bottle of champagne waiting for that day. For now I'll accept my coming ability to be civilunionized.

Gay hating Oregonians! Your 100 days in Paris are coming to an end. Waterloo is coming.

It's Washington State's Birthday today. It was born today in 1889, Hopefully, it will get a Democratic Governor as a gift.

I don't want my state (Oregon) sandwhiched between two Republican Governors. Kevin Mannix's vile ass doesn't need to be lent any credence, comfort or aid.

Last I heard; Rossi was still ahead in the recounts. :(

Democratic Gov. Ted Kulongoski said he would sign a civil union bill if it arrived on his desk.

I knew I could trust Oregon's lawmakers not to let me down. We're even getting support from our Republicans.

"Ballot Measure 36 may or may not have put discrimination in the Constitution, that's a debatable issue... What civil unions without question do is give the same rights to domestic partners as traditionally sanctioned marriage."

Senator Westlund is drafting that bill as I write this, despite having voted for Meaure 36 the Oregon Anti Gay Marriage amendment.

Walmart, in it's never ending quest to be evil and tacky has teamed up with Fox News, announcing they will display the pseudo news channel's election coverage on all of thier in-store TVs this election night.

I was annoyed by this at first but, I have to admit, I'll probably watch Kerry win on Foxnews too. I want to seen the pain in Sean Hannity's eyes.

I have to agree with this man's assesment. The best line:

Senator Biden always seems to be wearing flashy polyester shirts. He never is, but he always seems to be, just as he always seems to reek of cologne.

It gets to be a bit uncouth from there ...but still

Biden can't help himself, his plagerisim problems started well before the Kinnock speech. He constantly sticks his foot in his mouth and has a tendency to be overly agressive. A good thing when dealing whatever Neo-Con holdovers remain in the various departments but a bad idea when it comes to diplomacy. I look forward to State regaining some of it's glory after Colin Powell's less then stately term. We need to put our best face on in these very public positions. That face is not Joe Biden.

In other posts I've seen suggestions of Clinton but I think that stems more from peoples fascination with the man than from any logical conclusions. My suggestion has always been Clark, but then again he's proven himself to be diplomatically inept at times as well

Beware the Unofficial Ballot Boxes

I'm more than a little leery of these. Why would you ever put your ballot in the hands of an unknown entity? Is anyone really that lazy? Anyway, to all my friends here in the Beaver state; I encourage you NOT to use these. I have no evidence that their sponsers are up to no good, in fact they probably only have good intentions. I just don't like the idea.

Well, not ink per se... pixel I guess. Either way, I've been frequenting redstate.org for a little while now and I noticed today the first front page mention of daily kos (since I've been reading at least). I thought I'd link to it. Go ahead and post your reactions here if you have to, since they probably wouldn't be to welcome amongst the redheads.
