There are lots of good cops. I know — I work with them every day. There are lots of dedicated, decent, hard working, brave cops who really do want to serve and protect. There are cops who will take a bullet for you.

Most cops want to stand up to shitty cops - but crossing that thin blue line can be hazardous to them.

I dedicate this post to all of the good cops. Please cross that thin blue line. It starts with you. It is your profession. Your life. Your future. Stand up to the shitty cops. Please. We will have your backs.

Holy, shit.

I was just chatting with a high school teacher friend of mine. She is frustrated (and rightfully so) about the helicopter parents in her classrooms. Some of her students do don’t home work yet their parents think they deserve “A’s” for work undone. When she calls the kids out on their utter lack of effort, they go home – crying to Mom and Dad – and she has to apologize to them for hurting their feelings.

An attitude hangs over us. It is mean and cruel. In America. A fiscal bullying is occurring.

They shouldn't get free stuff. Free food, free phones, free health care. They don't deserve a boot strap - some say. It is impossible to pull yourself up without one. Without a net.

At minimum wage you live pay check to pay check. Sometimes there isn't enough for food. Free food. Some detest free food - taxpayer funded food. Food for the most vulnerable. Children. Old folks. Single mothers and the mentally ill. Get a job. You are lazy.

Can't pull themselves up without boot straps.

My daughter came out to me recently. She waited 23 years to tell me. I can only imagine that those twenty-three years were very long for her.

This is my narrative. I certainly can't speak for my daughter. I have no idea what she went through or how she felt those twenty three years. But this I know - she is brave beyond any bravery that I could ever imagine.

I learned so much from my daughter the day she came out.

Barbara Wold has left us. Political activist, blogger, progressive thinker, and, the smartest woman I have ever known. Ever. Many of you will remember her as Barbwire here at Daily Kos. I will remember her as a dedicated, hard as nails, advocate of all things fair and logical. She was the little voice inside many heads; the party, game players, politicians and special interest groups. She did her best to keep them honest. I was lucky enough to become her friend. I loved her very much.

I met her through Daily Kos so I thought it only appropriate I say goodbye to her, here.

Last October I was laid off and replaced by a 20 somethin' male who had about a tenth of the work experience I have for about half of what I was making. I hit the ground running and found a job within a month. I was lucky. But not lucky enough to have health insurance. No bennies where I work now. Needless to say, the news that I may be able to get my female "exams" done at the drug store down the street was about as refreshing to me as a new box of Summers Eve douche.

Getting a vaginal ultrasound is not a pleasant experience. They are invasive, scary and down right demeaning. They are necessary to diagnose multiple health problems. Doctors can't force a female patient to have one...well, until now in Oklahoma.

If reading about an invasive diagnostic medical procedure, that involves a vagina, makes you woozy, then skip this diary.

I am legal. And by legal that means that I am a Hispanic female whose family has lived in what is now called "New Mexico" since the late 1500's. By the way, my family has lived under three different flags. Spanish, Mexican and, now, the American flag. Most of my family speaks Spanish at home or are at least bilingual.

I am an American citizen. I pay my taxes and hold down two jobs to pay my bills and live my life. And guess what? We vote. We don't miss any elections. And, I'll be damned before I carry a passport to the state right next to mine.

This election was all about two egos. And the Democratic voters lost. We lost big. An anti-choice, anti-Hispanic, anti-LGBT rights candidate won.

A very conservative Republican walked away with the mayoral race in Albuquerque last night. His two Democratic challengers fell short of the 40% threshold needed to win, or, to get the numbers to force a November runoff if none of the three candidates broke through 40%. Simple math shows that Democrats came out high for the Democratic candidates. Democratic voters totalled 45,360 with 97% of the precincts counted.

Martin Heinrich's health care Town Hall was yesterday. Heinrich is our rep for NM-01. I contributed money to his campaign. I voted for him.

After participating in the Town Hall yesterday, I am not so sure he will be a second termer. I am concerned.

My bedroom walls were plastered with posters of him. The monthly Tiger Beat magazines, loaded with stories and pictures of Michael, couldn't get to me fast enough.

A lot will be written about him but the one certaintly a young girl, like me, had growing up in the wilds of SE Asia was that I could always count on Michael Jackson to drive away the lonely hours. I didn't have a TV. I had no Pop Culture. But I had the magazines and the record albums that my grandmother sent me to keep me occupied.

She knew how much I loved him. Before we left the U.S. I used to lay on her bed listening to him on the radio. His voice was mesmerizing to me.
